jings it's quite easy to sack volunteers - you just tell them not to come back again and they have little or no comeback. Lots of charities have contracts to supply services - Victim Support, WRVS, Cafcass etc
Elrel, in Leicestershire, where I live, the County Council have offered local communities support to take over the running of all village libraries or see them close. Our village is lucky in that we have a very active Community Association who were able to take the task on. We were the first to go live so have been guinea pigs but it seems to be going well. We have to become.self supporting in seven years so our main priority is to make the building 'earn' during its closed periods. 'Luckygirl* is involved in running her local library but in a different way, I think.
