Rumours Re Scrapping Prescription Charges?

A rumour about possibly ditching Prescription Charges in the coming Budget is gaining traction in the media.

There are concerns that often someone with several items on a prescription will simply Pic'n'Mix and give priority to the medication they reckon they must have - but delete other items due to the crucifying cost of the charges, which may turn into a false economy but if you can't afford them all then you simply can't afford.

Oddly, there are no Prescription Charges in Scotland and Wales.

But if people are on several prescriptions they can buy prepayment certificates which save an awful lot of money. It’s just that surgeries and pharmacies don’t publicise them very well. They’re especially good if you start a new medication and might have to keep changing the dose till you get it right. And when I worked at a doctors very few people seemed to pay for prescriptions anyway; many people seemed to be on benefits etc. or on thyroid tablets.
