What would be the worst figure of speech if you took them literally?

Farage’s net favourability is now at -45 according to the latest opinion poll, which is identical to that of Starmer immediately before he resigned. Desperate times call for desperate measures from him I guess, but I doubt that this particular desperate measure will save his skin.
Let's hope not!
Farage consulting Trump's Border Czar is unsurprising as Farage is hardly an imaginative or original thinker. However, Trump has had to use executive orders to pursue his policies on immigration and, even if Farage got into government, he would struggle to get any of his draconian policies through the Commons or the Lords. Thankfully, our system of government is a bit more fit for purpose than the American one.
Utterly disgraceful!
Have people forgotten ICE shot and killed people. (Who were not migrants)
We don’t want armed border controls and we don’t want ICE officials here!
That figure’s not right. He is now at plus 24 if you look at the YouGov poll so NOT as low as Starmer. 69% do not regard him favourably. Idk where the Independent gets its figure from. Whatever he has fallen in the popularity stakes but not into minus figures which ED Davey and Polanski have.
Does he think this is the answer?
Is this what some of you really want?
Security guards, doing patrols that at least one town doesn’t want.
Pink Ladies and Patriot Platform, made up of leaders with criminal convictions for abuse and kidnap.
Armed Border Control officials, being advised by a man who condones shooting of anyone?
Not in my name, not in my country.

I think you’re too trusting of the British constitution, foxie.
If Farage were to get into government (thankfully a now very unlikely event) it would be because his party had the majority of seats in Parliament. A slender majority would make it difficult for him, but with a majority as large, say, as the current Labour majority he could do anything he liked, however illiberal/disgusting.

Yougov predictions for Brexit and the 2024 presidential elections were wrong. The big flaw in Yougov is that although it uses active sampling it can only use those who choose to register which is self selecting IMO that can create biases.
Anyone who has watched One Battle After Another, winner of the Best Picture Oscar last year will definitely not want ICE tactics in our country.
Am sure there will be some who will applaud Farage for this.
I personally feel quite sick.

Me too and angry 🥵🤬🤢
All this Farage attention doesn’t really make much sense in the big sea
It is driven by fear, anger and concern.
Which then generates more media hype, which then, with the added attention, drives more people to them.
An own goal.

Reform will never be in government. I accept that. I think there’ll likely be a huge surge towards them at a general election but it’ll be more in hope & protest than expectation.
What does surprise me on here is how much discussion is generated about them! Especially as posters like to remind me how many MPs Lib Dem’s have in comparison.
Surely it would be more relevant to discuss what Eden Square Davey’s proposals are? All this Farage attention doesn’t really make much sense in the big sea.
I do get your point.
But in comparison, Ed Davey neither generates nor attracts much publicity.
A little like Polanski, media only seems interested in any “stupid”, “mistakes” or “gimmicky” things these two might do.
Also, I guess, Ed Davey isn’t really controversial nor does he own a couple of media companies and a stake in GB News or (as far as I’m aware) writes for a couple of other media outlets such as X and the Telegraph.
Without commenting at all on Farage’s policies/politics, after all I wouldn’t wish people think “he lives inside my head” or that I’m “sad”, Farage is extremely adept at courting media, he clearly adores media attention (on his terms), and is a very good orator, who is more than capable of putting his messages across and encouraging support.
He’s a very clever, manipulator.
Ed Davey simply isn’t!
Anyhow, that’s my take on it things
Others will have theirs.
I do doubt very much that Farage will get in at the next election but the very thought that he wields not insignificant political strength and that so many voters do support him no matter how many in his party either drop out or are under investigation/already charged with certain crimes or have historic criminal charges revealed, has really changed my opinion about a country I have always loved. He has caused such division and damage to our political landscape without even being in power.
Ed Davey mentioned this morning that Burnham is considering calling an early GE. He is worried about the huge amounts of money given to Reform and how they will spend it if given time.
Farage thinking of ICE in the UK is deplorable. What kind of a country would we become if we follow Trump.

What do you mean by “an own goal”?
An own goal is a “bad thing”, if as you state (& I’d disagree) that all the media hype around Farage attracts more followers and attention, that’s a “positive” for Reform and Farage, not “an own goal”? 😂😜😜

I was responding to Casdon’s post. Everyone is usually so keen on here to get facts right - except when it’s something they don’t like. I checked the YouGov stats and according to them Farage is not in the minus position some would obviously like him to be. It’s an emotive pile on to get people to agree with your point of view.

Have Labour not learned from Sunak’s mistake?
I think an early GE would be a disaster!

Am praying the midterms in the US will spell out to all of us how Trump has fallen from grace, at least that could take the wind out of Farage’s sails.
Not sure Burnham calling an early election would be advisable seeing as he hasn’t had enough time as PM to put his stamp on things, and could the worst possible gamble.
