The UK can’t take the millions of gay or Christian people who want to live elsewhere but it looks very much like they don’t and it’s fraudsters claiming it.

Indeed it is, and quite right to stop it. But arguing that because a man has had a child and was married he could not have been gay all along is quite inaccurate, as I said, it used to happen all the time to hide being gay in the UK for centuries.

Yes it did & that’s because they were imprisoned for being gay.
I have absolutely no problem with gay people, but when lawyers are telling these men to pretend, to claim asylum, then saying to bring over their wife’s they then have to pretend to be a lesbian is a downright lie.

I do too. Also the genuine gays that are fleeing their countries, rather than face a cruel, barbaric death, of being tied to a chair, then chucked of a roof 😩

You didn’t see what the BBC found? Groups set up as gay groups that asylum seekers are advised to attend when in fact none of them are actually gay.

As Petra said up thread this has been common knowledge for ages.

Two things spring to mind, firstly how dangerous it is to be gay in some countries where ultimate sanctions are applied hanging, beheading, thrown off the top of a building. Things were bad enough here at one time, look how we treated Alan Turing, who changed the course of the war in our favour. So I'd hate to think we couldn't give sanctuary to those who are fleeing brutal regimes where execution for one's sexuality is applied.

However, it's a fact that we have crooked, manipulative lawyers here who make a lucrative living off not only these cases, but defending absolute criminals such as "groomers" having committed hideous crimes and then hinder their deportation through lengthy appeals via Legal Aid. Very little seems to be done about investigating the abuse of Legal Aid in such cases it does seem.

I'm with you entirely. That's why I queried a post suggesting that claiming to be gay should never be seen as a reason to grant asylum. I am absolutely sure there are societies where people are murdered for being gay, as I'm sure there are people who will lie and try to pretend to be gay to claim asylum. I don't believe it's that easy to have a "no gays, no asylum" policy.

I haven’t seen anyone here or elsewhere suggesting anyone who is gay and living in a country which punishes being gay, should just come here.

Again, in the great scheme of things, we are about 10th in the countries taking Asylum Seekers, and in total those accepted here make up around 1% of our total population.

The title of this thread is wrong, imo, it should read AS solicitors wrongly telling AS to pretend to be gay and/or Christians. It’s so corrupt and frankly I’m much more angry about the folks giving this “advice”

My experience isn’t an anecdote. He has been here for 7 years now.

The genuine gay asylum seekers are being done a great disservice by the ones who lie. And it's obviously been known about for some time.

Statement from the Peter Tatchell Foundation:

I have read about asylum seekers pretending to be gay to ask for asylum, then going on holiday to their home country! Talk about taking the p…….

I was not aware of this scam, petra, and I have asked some acquaintances today, and they were not, so perhaps it's not quite as well known as you suggest.
This is a shocking abuse of the system and I hope that any solicitors proved to have been involved in this have their licence revoked.

It totally disgusts me that lawyers are colluding with these lies. It should be against the law and dealt with accordingly.

That's a matter of opinion. From what I've seen, "sixandahalf" usually has very interesting points to make. Unlike some others, she doesn't just sneer and attack those who post things she doesn't like. She deals in facts and genuine points for discussion.

Peter Sutcliff must have had a miraculous recovery from his mental illness because in 2016 he was deemed mentally fit to be sent to a non psychiatric prison.

Peter Sutcliffe was transferred to a normal prison because it was deemed that there was nothing more Broadmoor could do to treat him. It's a matter of dispute whether his mental illness was ever accepted in the first place. Originally it wasn't and he spent the first few weeks of his sentence in a normal prison.

To be honest, whether he was categorised as mentally ill or not was irrelevant. He was never going to be released. All that mattered was his management plan. In layman's terms, I don't think many people would accept that somebody who murdered 13(?) women for no reason was sane.

There are evil people who just have no conscience and do whatever pleases them.
