Is anyone actually surprised? They will literally try anything to get into the UK.

Should point out, I read these claims are mostly from people with temporary visas about to expire.

Not the ones coming in on boats apparently.

Who actually are the largest group of immigrants here illegally.

Yes, back to the op, but I still don't understand why you dragged the victim's family into the discussion. Oh well, I guess it made sense to you.

As Petra said up thread this has been common knowledge for ages.

Two things spring to mind, firstly how dangerous it is to be gay in some countries where ultimate sanctions are applied hanging, beheading, thrown off the top of a building. Things were bad enough here at one time, look how we treated Alan Turing, who changed the course of the war in our favour. So I'd hate to think we couldn't give sanctuary to those who are fleeing brutal regimes where execution for one's sexuality is applied.

However, it's a fact that we have crooked, manipulative lawyers here who make a lucrative living off not only these cases, but defending absolute criminals such as "groomers" having committed hideous crimes and then hinder their deportation through lengthy appeals via Legal Aid. Very little seems to be done about investigating the abuse of Legal Aid in such cases it does seem.

I'm certainly not disputing that and I don't think anybody else is, but I still don't understand what the honesty of the victim's family has to do with it.

Nobody has disputed that Calocane had schizophrenia. Anybody who has had experience of somebody with severe schizophrenia knows that lying and covering up are symptoms. Unfortunately, some of the people dealing with him before the murders didn't seem to know that and may have taken what he said at face value. However, professionals should have known and he should have been restrained long before the murders took place.

All of that is very different from people setting up organisations to support lying.

I agree with you TerriBull. I have no sympathy at all for crooked lawyers. The law and lawyers should be without blemish. Lawyers found to be abusing their position should be punished harshly.

Unfortunately there are some lawyers, barristers and even KC’s in this country with morals worse than alley cats.

Apologies to all alley cats 🐈‍⬛🐈

TerriBull Thu 16-Apr-26 09:42:45

I agree GG we do have an element who have been cynically manipulating the legal system for ages, I can remember undercover programmes about such nefarious activities ages go. Naturally, all paid via taxation. Of course to mention any of that immediately puts such criticism as veering into extreme right territory.

A massive overhaul would be good, but I doubt whether that will happen.

Is anyone really surprised, they will try anything. This must have been going on for ages.

It’s not really about the immigrants is it!

Asylum scams have been big business for years and yet some people seem surprised or disbelieving. There are various scams like being gay, Christian or too young to send back. Muscular adults with beards were being accepted as children. The authorities must be blind and stupid.

Remember a couple of years ago when the previously Muslim applicants suddenly saw the light and were all being baptised as Christians.

What makes it all so tragic and cruel is that these criminals are making it impossible for the genuine cases who desperately need help.

That is so true!

Peter Sutcliff must have had a miraculous recovery from his mental illness because in 2016 he was deemed mentally fit to be sent to a non psychiatric prison.

It has!
Claims of being gay or miraculous conversions to Christianity shouldn’t even be considered as reasons to grant asylum here, which would put an instant stop to the crooked lawyers/ advisors and make the asylum assessment easier and faster.

Grantanow Thu 16-Apr-26 10:05:35

I wonder what percentage of asylum claimants use this ruse? 0.1%, 1%, 10%? Of course it's fraud and shoukd be stopped but how extensive is it?

He did what he did because he wanted to, there’s MH cases and there’s just bad.

Which probably proves that he is mentally ill! Why would anybody want to be transferred to a prison from a secure hospital?

Even if people have a provable history of persecution as a result of being gay or Christian in a country where neither is tolerated?

Oreo Thu 16-Apr-26 10:11:45

It wasn’t up to him twaddle

Oreo Thu 16-Apr-26 10:22:23

The UK can’t take the millions of gay or Christian people who want to live elsewhere but it looks very much like they don’t and it’s fraudsters claiming it.
The provable history would have to be a damn sight more convincing than joining a group where nobody is actually gay.

Primrose53 Thu 16-Apr-26 10:22:50

Another excuse they use is “domestic violence”. They know or are told every trick in the book.

Ah! The amorphous "they". Would it be possible to quantify this group?
