Good morning from Malta where the high today is forecast at 32°C. It’s still hot but there was a pleasant, cool breeze yesterday.

I went for my hair yesterday then stopped to buy bread and a few other bits before the boys arrived sporting new haircuts. They are all set to return to school next week.😭

DD3 starts today so I will have the boys today and tomorrow. I have an appointment with the doctor this morning but my son in law is going to come and watch the boys while I’m there to save them having to come with me.

Hoping you all have a good day.☀️

Good morning from Sheffield
I’m awake so early this morning.

We went to our daughters for tea and got back at 8.30. Neither of us could be bothered to switch the tv on and go in the lounge so I had a hot bath and went to bed to read. I fell asleep early and I’ve had my 7 hours.

I am going to the National Arboretum today with my WI. I last went about 20 years ago. It will be nice to see the trees and landscaping now. They do a remembrance service every day. My dad flew a Lancaster in the war and although he came home, so many didn’t. I am grateful for their service and like to pay my respects.

Take care everyone flowers

Good morning from a showery Bristol. The “dark hour” temperatures are starting to feel distinctly autumnal. The equinox is with us very soon.
Yesterday was the usual rush, with morning prayers followed by FAB cafe. The numbers have picked up significantly which is really good, but mean a lot of work.
An amusing thing happened. About a dozen fairy cakes were left, so I offered them to the lady organising the ladies’ meeting in the afternoon.
After a hurried lunch, I was just leaving when a grid came round with a huge bag of Bramleys for jam/pickles. She kingly dropped me off at the meeting.
I walked into the hall to be greeted with”the cakes have disappeared”! Apparently, they had been left in the kitchen, and when she came back, there the4 were, gone…. Not a clue to where, how, to whom.
The talk could have been interesting, but was boring as the lady got a lot of facts wrong. It was about tea. She mispronounced things, calling the ancient Japanese capital “coyote”, saying that Charles II lived in the XVI century, etc. I felt a heel, but when I spoke to the President who hadn’t been impressed, it was vindication. I left soon after as I was exhausted.
Quiet evening, I finished sashing the quilt. All that’s left are the borders. I must start planning the next one…
Today has t’ai chi, a visit to the library on the way to DD’s for dinner, to collect a book I’ve ordered.
May your day be quiet and contented. Carpe diem 🐦‍🔥🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from s somerset, cool drizzle today

One of my best-ever days out was when we went to the National Arboretum and that was also about 20 years ago Melanie. It was very moving and gave me a lot of insight into things that my dad never spoke about. I remember it to this day

My dressing gown is finished, the fabric is blanket weight and not dressing gown weight and is warm but it nearly killed my machine, eight layers at times. I won`t be using blanket fabric again. I would definitely make the gown again and likely next time in a silk satin that I have in stash. I can see me wearing it soon, it feels cool this morning

Now I have a sewing room covered in bits of cotton fabric so cleaning in there is a job for today. APC is coming with my order and my freezer is on the boost setting. I will need to vac pack in meal-sized portions first, another task for today. I made the order last week when traffic was to and fro and yet again access was blocked from yesterday, another two weeks of that. I am hoping my APC gets here ok

I need to walk to the shops and have a birthday package to post but will have to wait until I have finished processing my order

Good morning from Shropshire.Another drizzly start but again due to be warmer later.

We had a lovely few hours with DGD but I have had a dreadful night.I have physio this morning but will cancel my afternoon plans as I feel rubbish.DH is sleeping like a baby beside me so he can go to meet our group of friends and give my apologies.

Lovely dressing gown karma.

Hoping all unwell and those with worries had a better day yesterday.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩

Today I can only say Morning Michael and all GN's on a very dark and still morning in North Yorkshire. I have had such a bad night, with so much pain and cramps, that if I could have been sure of knocking myself out, I would have banged my head on the wall! The exhaustion from lack of sleep and any comfort of any kind is just making life very hard at the moment. Also lack of sleep is now encouraging the excema to rear its ugly head, so that my skin itches so much I have to scratch it, despite knowing that even the slightest relief from that will be outweighed by the pain I feel. About 4am I just gave in and once the wretched cramp eased off went in the shower, so that at least my hair is washed and I am a clean grumpy person! My rules regarding allowing myself to have a drink etc are thrown to the winds and I am hoping this coffee will please me enough to calm down and try to relax, although right now every movement of my legs are threatened by yet more cramp. What a flipping morning!!!

Yesterday I had intended to go down to the market amongst other things, but decided to polish my halo and go through some paperwork and try to check on the files and throw out old stuff etc. I was not enjoying the job , but could begin to see some inroads into the pile and two neat new piles of things for the files, and things that needed checking up on before getting rid of them were pleasing to see, until I went to make myself a coffee and as I walked back to my desk saw, to my horror, the pile slowly sliding and then falling off the desk into a messy heap below. I couldnt move fast enough to catch it or make any difference, so another ratchety moment, wishing I had a punch bowl to thump.

Before I went to whist I spent some futile time , trying to find my phone - to no avail - despite searching high and low and checking all pockets of jackets etc. Then the tv remote control had disappeared so that I eventually left for whist, early and in disgust. Despite being early the car park was full and so was the hall. I think the darker colder day , and the return to a sense of normality after the school holidays encouraged everyone to come back to what passes for normality!

Had a job to park and hobble in, but it was buzzing and it was good to catch up with news and views from everyone. All the farming fraternity are well ahead of their jobs, with this early harvest , and I think Stokesly show will be very busy, as it is this saturday and very popular, but if the harvest is late or rain threatens it has to be abandoned by the farmers , So this year I think it will be very busy indeed. I had planned to go myself, but firstly need to confirm that I would have a definite disabled parking space, and right now, I dont know if I could manage walking around. I will be sad and annoyed if I feel unable to go but can only hope that I will be fit enough to try it.

So had a mostly goodtime, playing to the best I could with the cards I was dealt, but neither good or bad score so no winnings. John grows cucumbers and tomatoes in his greenhouse, - think he was a market gardener before he retired, and so I was pleased to be able to get a cucumber , as I had just run out and as I hadnt had much to eat before I left, I planned to make myself up a mixed salad with peppers and celery ,tomatoes and beetroot etc. I duly made up my good little salad, but watching Downton Abbey I then looked at the salad and saw that I had forgotten to put any cucumber on it!! Couldnt do much but planned to wash up and get the washing into the machine early, but so far, have only crept in here o sit for a while. Opened the window and can hear the rain dripping down so no great rush anyhow today!!

I have the womans group meeting today, but cant for the life of me remember what we are doing, and sent an email to one of the organisers to ask what we were doing but no reply yet. Have just had to shut the window as the rain is now coming in, so not sure if it will ease off so that I can venture out on the yellow peril. With the extortionate price of fuel right now, I am trying to avoid using the car where possible! Cant see the remote control for the tv and the phone seems to have done a runner, so not been my day so far!! Ah well I am at least clean if nothing else and shall shortly get dressed in nice clean clothes from the skin outwards and get the washer going. fingers crossed there is nothing stopping the cleaners coming this pm, although given my start to today, nothing would surprise me!!

Well Mike I hopeyou have a good trip in today and meet a few friends. I will come back later to read other news and views and hope to have cheered up and have something good to say even if is only that I have found the phone!!
Well I shall continue with my campaign for equality for disabled people in the area and will start taking photos of pot holes to go with my complaints and see if I can galvanise people to take pictures of the worst ones near them and add to my collection that I dont want to have!! Definitely going to carry on with my hotel disabled situation and hope to see or ring the trading standards at the very least this morning. If the hotel attempt to fob me off or make light of it I shall be writing to the local paper and organising a massed arrival at their doors by as many wheelchair and buggy users and inviting the local paper to be there.

So my day is going to be firstly finding out what is on at the group and if it is bingo I shall not be going!! Each to their own but a more boring game I cant imagine , and there is no skill to it either , so it doesnt let my mind wander off away from all the things that annoy me. Not up to attempting even a short walk , and my flipping back is already at worst nagging pain to start the day well!!

I am hoping that it is just my rather miserable day and that lucky others are still fast asleep in bed or rushing around setting the world to rights and at the same time with whirlwind speed supplying breakfast and various items of clothing , and looking forward to that blissful moment when you are able to sit down with coffee and an old friend and begin your new forays out after the school holidays.

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire. It’s still dark and very overcast here in South Yorkshire. I was out most of the day yesterday and was very tired when I got home.

I met DD during her lunch hour yesterday and we ate together in our city museum before I went to a talk about collections and repatriation. It was interesting. Although it wasn’t couched in these exact terms, it seems the race is on with museums up and down the country to rid their collections of any items that hinted at a colonial past, dark or otherwise, whether legitimately acquired or not, and return them to indigenous people whether they have been requested or not. It left one with a lot of food for thought.
GS rang me at teatime from uni for a chat. He was cooking his tea. Bangers and mash😁!

Walking group today and then lunch with DD who is at home today. I may call in on my niece on the way home as we have been like ships that pass in the night recently.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Greyduster Thu 17-Sept-26 06:47:44

I mean to say, Melanie we went to the NMA a few years before DH died. We were extremely moved by it all. Having been a military man all his life there were memorials there, such as the Ghurka one, and the Falklands one, that meant a lot to him.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 17-Sept-26 07:11:58

Good morning Mick and all 🙋‍♀️

Not sure what the weather is doing today. I want to go to the farm shop, but we have an electrician due sometime today. He should phone first thing to estimate his arrival time, we shall see 🤷‍♀️

Sorry you are having such a hard time Madeleine45 🌺

Hope Marydoll is okay 🌺

harrigran Thu 17-Sept-26 07:19:02

Good morning from the NE where it is dry and presumably mild as the heating is not on. Sun just starting to shine through bathroom window and into my eyes as I sit on the bed.

Yestedday was shopping day with my sister and BIL, took longer than I would have liked because the supermarket had been moving products around again.
Nothing planned for today so I think I will wash and iron, the laundry hamper is completely full of summer clothes which will need storing until next summer.
Have a good day.

Gagagran Thu 17-Sept-26 07:19:40

Good Morning everyone from a rather gloomy central south coast. We are forecast some rain this morning but it often misses us given our position on the coast.

A third surveyor is due this morning to confirm our suitability for a stair lift. I am pretty sure that it is feasible and now it is really down to who DH thinks will give the best service - and price. I can still manage the stairs one step at a time but am aware that stairs are dangerous for wobbly folk - which both of us are and unlikely to improve at our ages.

Hope the day is a good one for us all especially those with struggles or worries of any kind.

latedecember1963 Thu 17-Sept-26 07:19:40

Good morning everyone from Lancashire.
I'm sorry I've been awol. I tried to post 3 times on Monday but the circle of doom kept going round.
The last 2 mornings I haven't managed to post before the little chap was awake, although I managed to read some early posts.

I hope your scalded feet are less sore, Marzipan. What an awful accident. 💐

The work on our patio is coming on. Yesterday we had to decide whether to have 'normal' mortar or the new resin mortar. I wanted to go for resin because it would look nice but because the gaps between the slabs are wide it would cost a small fortune. We have other jobs needing attention so can't blow our 'Fix the House' budget.

Yesterday evening I went to a PCC meeting. The vicar chaired it and obviously has his finger on the pulse of what's happening, church wise. I'm easing myself back into 'behind-the-scenes' church life after a beeak of 3 or 4 years.
I used to be PCC Secretary and did various other things until I finally had enough of a particular person.
That person has moved onto another church locally where I hear on the grapevine her behaviour hasn't mellowed.

Today's plans include making a cake ahead of DH's birthday tomorrow and making up the bed in DD's room.

Wishing you all the best day possible. 🌻

ginny Thu 17-Sept-26 07:20:33

Good morning. Haven’t looked out at the weather yet.
I finally finished the big tidy up of my craft room ! All the boxes and files are now labelled so hopefully things will be easier to find and it will stay tidier.
Art group this morning and sewing this afternoon. No choir this evening as our leader is still recovering, It will start again next week but I shall be away.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

Redcar Thu 17-Sept-26 07:21:24

Good morning everyone from mod Essex, where it’s just started raining. A wet morning is forecast but some of the forecasts are so unreliable so who knows what the weather will actually do,
I attempted to vacuum the bedrooms yesterday morning but the vacuum cleaner was depositing more dirt than it was sucking up, so I had to dismantle it. I’m waiting for the filters to dry before I can put it back together and try to clean upstairs again!
I also used the electric scarifier on the back “lawn” but ended up using a rake as well.
I’ll do some sorting out of shoes etc today as well as vacuuming the bedrooms. I’ve been awake since 3.45, so may run out of steam by lunchtime.

I hope that those who are climbing mountains today find the path a little smoother, that anyone travelling has a trouble free journey and that anyone on holiday has a great time!

Have as good a day as is possible everyone.

kittylester Thu 17-Sept-26 07:22:58

Good morning all from North Leicestershire where is it raining.

I am going to help at the last local AgeUk run cafe for people with MCI. The contract has now been awarded to the Alzheimer's Society. Hoping to hear what their plans are and whether we can be part of them. It's a bit unsettling. Sainsbury's delivery at teatime.

Have the best day possibke everyone.

monk08 Thu 17-Sept-26 07:23:47

Good morning all from the Black country where it is damp and drizzly, heavier rain predicted for later.
DH has a hearing test this morning perhaps they can persuade him to wear his aids more frequently, he will only put them in when out of the house will not wear them at home. Will call in at the new Lidl on the way back see if anything catches my eye.
Melanie have been to National Arboretum at least 4 times with different people find it very moving especially the Burma railway memorial my late father fought there with the Chindits and he never spoke of it.
Well Madeleine I hope you find your phone, the cramp eases and your cleaners arrive.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans.

Ashcombe Thu 17-Sept-26 07:24:51

Good morning from a breezy Torbay following overnight rain.

Before retiring here, I used to live not far from the National Arboretum and visited it a few times. The morning service at the chapel with the two minutes silence is particularly moving. The building is designed so that the sun comes through the windows either side of the altar at 11.00 am.

Wishing everyone as good a day as circumstances allow.

🦩🥰🦩💐🥰

brook2704 Thu 17-Sept-26 07:30:02

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a dry bright start to the day with some rain in the forecast
Today I need to get a bit of cleaning and washing done and just get a few things ready for my trip away to Cambridge tomorrow. Deciding what to take will be my biggest challenge, I never really know what we’ll be doing until I get there. The journey should be a bit easier as a new train station has opened very close to Dds so I don’t actually need to go into central Cambridge.
Hope everyone has the best day they can, take care all 💐

GrannyIvy Thu 17-Sept-26 07:30:05

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where it is a cloudy 14 degrees. I haven’t posted much recently as I have been sleeping later (after a run of awake in the middle of the night) and then need to get up and about and no time to read Gransnet until much later.

I am sad to hear of those struggling with ill health but happy to read of happy holiday posts.

Not much to report from here really. I don’t enjoy the end of summer and hate the thought of packing summer clothes away and darker mornings and evenings. I bounce into Spring and summer but reluctantly slide into Autumn. Having said that I do enjoy my autism walks so that is something to look forward too.

My grandson appears to be settling well into university life which is a relief but his mum DD1 is rather wobbly.

Today I am off to Pilates and my neighbour is not joining me today so I will call at a garden centre on route home and then plan to tiffle in my garden this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a good day. Also hope Brook you enjoy your trip to Cambridge this weekend.

GrannyIvy Thu 17-Sept-26 07:32:59

Not autism walks🙈 but Autumn walks 😂

Grandmabatty Thu 17-Sept-26 07:33:36

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 11° and dry and clear. Rain is forecast for later. Madeleine you are having a painful time just now. Susan you have my sympathy. I often have bad nights with little sleep.
Yesterday was ok. I did have the opticians appointment and everything was good apart from the peripheral vision test on my left eye. I've to go back next week to have it redone which is annoying. I then went to the book shop which had a big display in the window of Julia Donaldson 'Gruffalo Granny' books. I thought I would buy one for the boys. However they had none in stock, so that was also annoying. Back home, i pottered about and worked out what the problem was with my pin number. So that will hopefully be rectified today.
Today, after a better night and reduced pain, I will work in the school library for a bit. Then fix my pin number issue at a cash machine. Once home, I will empty the car as it's being serviced tomorrow. I still have ironing to do, so that might get done-or not! I wish you all a good day.

Grandmabatty Thu 17-Sept-26 07:36:03

GrannyIvy I love the word 'tiffle'!

luluaugust Thu 17-Sept-26 07:43:11

Good morning from a wet W Kent. Off to my other art group this morning and then a quiet afternoon.
Madeleine lack of sleep is awful I hope you can a nap in during today.
Best wishes to all

RosesandLilac Thu 17-Sept-26 07:45:55

Good morning, it’s raining here on the hillside in south Glos, all very welcome of course!
My cleaner came for the last regular time yesterday, I really can’t afford the luxury of having her weekly or fortnightly even😢
I’m sure I’ll manage.
Today I’m going to ruthlessly go through the ‘Tupperware’ type containers and cull the majority. Anglo Collection are asking for kitchenware so here’s my chance to be more rational about just how many I actually need and will use.
Then I will fill some bags for the Foodbank and deliver them to the village store that has a collection point.
The freezer needs sorting out too so plenty to get on with today 😁
Thinking of you with buggerations and problems x
