Whether they are banned or simply stop contributing it seems this happens reasonably often. It is a shame ,particularly when someone who has been a ‘regular’ is banned and most of us have no idea what caused it. A recent person to be banned never, as far as I am aware, transgressed . Sometimes I think someone with opposing views complains and causes a banning quite unnecessarily and we are the poorer for it. It would be very boring indeed if we all held the same views on everything.

HQ sent me a warning that as I had been reported several times my next one would be a ban. That was when I exited from posting, though I still drop in to see what’s going on. If that is the norm what a random way to decide on bans. I'm sure if Allira had had a similar warning she would have absolutely refrained from interacting with the bully, so I must assume she didn't get any warning.
Seriously HQ need to look a who is reporting and who they are reporting. There is deliberate targeted harassment by report. Do they just take the easiest way out and not look fully at each situation? We're assured they consider things carefully but your experience would suggest not.

^No, it was on site stuff.^

Well, as the thread had a number of deletions; mainly posts that perhaps weren't taking the subject matter as seriously as the OP might have wanted, it wouldn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out who had their finger firmly stuck on the report button. Shame on you for being so cowardly.

There was a period a few years back when a few posters were banned after being reported by someone who was eventually outed as s troll.

petra has Allira been told why she is banned or is she like us totally in the dark?

Yes she has been told in detail why she has been banned.
Obviously i can’t divulge what she was accused of.

Galaxy Wed 27-May-26 09:00:15

Thanks Lathyrus for telling us that.
I am still confused which thread it was but I don't suppose it matters.

I remember that clearly. Once again the Mods believed the troll.
A bit like my suspension when I was reported for calling out a BOT.

Rosie51 Wed 27-May-26 09:02:08

Thanks for that petra, although it won't make this unfair ban any easier for Allira.

I am fairly new to all this but could it be something controversial that may affect people either on or off the board? Does GN have a set of subjects or opinions that may lead to controversial outcomes either legally or in the media? It is all very well to say that we must be kind but if we are not told, how do we know? !

You’re way off the mark there.

I was shocked when I found out who had recently been banned. What on earth she did, I can’t imagine. And I don’t know who takes it upon themselves to report posters - I never have, unless it’s obviously spam.

I dare say some GNers take offence too easily. Just as well I didn’t go into a sulk aeons ago when some GNer had a go at me for one of my very first posts, when I was having a little moan about lack of facilities in expensive holiday accommodation. Didn’t I know that ‘roughing it’ was part of the fun of being on holiday? Never mind if I’d paid ££££ for the privilege!

I just thought, no wonder holiday home owners get away with lumpy mattresses, insufficient kitchen equipment, you name it, if to a lot of people sub-standard accommodation is not only to be expected, but should be enjoyed!

Apart from those posts from scammers, why does anyone feel the need to report someone ? Time the reporter ( who I think would be reasonably easy to identify) put on their big girl pants and grew up. How come they themselves don’t get banned for malicious reporting ? They should be.

perhaps they have

Is what she is accused of actually true?

When someone I had an email address for was banned the reason given was that she had had several warnings and had now run out of rope, so to speak. Whereas in actual fact Gnet had never given her a single warning.

Gnet mods can make bad mistakes. This one was at least admitted to and rectified.

If I’d had to make a list Allira’s name would have been at the bottom of it. She was never rude, she never bullied anyone and she could be very amusing. Such a shame and just doesn’t seem right at all, I am truly amazed and very very sorry that she has been banned.

👏👏👏👏👏👏

Witzend, I don't think that people take offence too easily necessarily as much as look really hard for it.

^A intimated there was a poster, who she thought may have been a frequent name changer and who she considered may have reported her posts on several occasions. Possibly an ultimate goal to have A banned.^

I do wonder at times if there is a malicious poster (or maybe not even a ‘poster’, just a lurker) on Gnet who has the sole aim of getting posts deleted and other people banned. There have been some odd decisions made over the years. This is definitely one of them.

Bingo!

Would it be 'good form' to give a clue about the Thread topic?
I understand, if that is not possible.

Exactly this. Quite deliberate

It is clear that, after 11 pages and 267 posts in exactly 24 hours, there are far more people here supporting our friend than seeking to get her banned for life.

Somehow, this action seems to have sucked the life out of Gransnet for me at least.

Please bring back this poster, she is missed.

Anything I can do to help ...

Finding not founding. I should be banned for typos.

No, I’m the worst here for typos and I’d have been banned for that long before you!

HelterSkelter1 Wed 27-May-26 09:58:47

If we dont know what the poster has done to be banned how on earth can we be expected to know to avoid doing it ourselves. Crazy.
These threads should stand so we can see what was said and who reported it. Unless of course it is likely to be picked up by the press.

In what way, please explain? You will also note that I have posed questions which invite answers. Please enlighten me if you choose to respond to my post!

A intimated there was a poster, who she thought may have been a frequent name changer and who she considered may have reported her posts on several occasions. Possibly an ultimate goal to have A banned.

If that’s the case then that particular poster will probably disappear for a while then return with yet another name change.

Magenta8 Wed 27-May-26 10:25:40

I find, increasingly, that I write posts, think 'stay out of it' then delete them.

Has this ban situation destabilised the site, reconfigured the ethos of Gransnet even and are we now hobbled, needing to be more accurately self-censoring. I think its inhibiting and now
I certainly don’t feel as safe here as I did

It’s a good few years since I joined, now posting under a different name, after removing myself following a shocking personal attack from a regular poster who it seems was banned, not through my doing, but part of the cull which deprived us of the GSM wisdoms. This was during my sabbatical when I moved over to the nest of vipers for a while.

When I first joined and didn’t know the ropes, I was quiet, like the New Girl, making anodyne comments, taking my time. I realised I was being followed around the sites by an obsessively
dogged poster, a shadow, accusing me of all sorts of nonsense, fixated and bullying, deranged posts. I did report them and had a sympathetic response, they were never seen again. Perhaps it wasn’t just me being picked on and bullied.

Gransnet is a civilised site unlike Barracuda Bay over there, even with the occasional outburst or ‘robust argument’ the language used is tempered and respectful. Mostly.

I’m sorry we have lost a valued member, what if anything
can we do.
