Whether they are banned or simply stop contributing it seems this happens reasonably often. It is a shame ,particularly when someone who has been a ‘regular’ is banned and most of us have no idea what caused it. A recent person to be banned never, as far as I am aware, transgressed . Sometimes I think someone with opposing views complains and causes a banning quite unnecessarily and we are the poorer for it. It would be very boring indeed if we all held the same views on everything.

Wyllow3 Tue 26-May-26 23:44:43

I dunno, it's an addiction.

pably15 Tue 26-May-26 23:49:17

Well I don't read every post, but what I have read of Allira's I can't understand why she should be banned.

Rosie51 Tue 26-May-26 23:51:50

Galaxy

No worries Welbeck. We will all be banned by tomorrow anyway smile

Do you know at this precise moment I don't care. If the bullies succeed then it's a lost site anyway. We're not 5 to be told we're naughty little children who need to toe the line. Why do they respect the posters on mumsnet more than us?

Galaxy Tue 26-May-26 23:55:06

Yes that's true. But as Wyllow says it is an addiction as well.

nanna8 Wed 27-May-26 01:56:17

I think Allira, of all of us, was the one least likely to be banned. As far as I’m concerned she has never said anything nasty or spiteful and she is a good contributor who has a lot to offer us all in the commonsense department. Shame on them for banning her. If I get banned for saying this, sees y’all later. Strewth.

Was it a Chat Thread?

No, it was on site stuff.

Oh I didn’t read that, I thought it would be about boring tech stuff!

Aveline Wed 27-May-26 06:35:23

I'm still here. So far so good. Maybe they'll take down the whole thread?

BlueBelle Wed 27-May-26 06:35:27

I too missed the thread all this happened on, and I too am aghast that a popular and from what I ve seen a very nice, easy going, friendly poster should be banned and as HQ won’t be forthcoming about it, how are we to know we won’t all fall down the same rabbit hole It obviously wasn’t likely to be anything political or racist if it was on site stuff and she wouldn’t anyhow but things can get misjudge especially in humour Do we know for sure someone reported her or did HQ take exception to something about the site?
I think these ‘broken rules’ should be told to us officially what they are and why such draconian action has been taken for a one off ‘offence’
Anyone who is in touch with her send her my love and tell her we are all routing for her

Magenta8 Wed 27-May-26 06:57:58

Looking back at some of Allira's posts I am as mystified as everybody else. OK she had a mischievous sense of humour but as far as I could see there was nothing malicious about her posts. I can't really say any more because, like everyone else on GN I don't know any specifics about what it was that got her banned.

Other posters seem to get away with quite explicit digs and put downs.

kittylester Wed 27-May-26 07:14:14

It hardly seems to matter which thread it was on - Allira never says anything untoward

SpinDriftCoastal Wed 27-May-26 07:21:07

I am fairly new to all this but could it be something controversial that may affect people either on or off the board? Does GN have a set of subjects or opinions that may lead to controversial outcomes either legally or in the media? It is all very well to say that we must be kind but if we are not told, how do we know? !

GrannyGravy13 Wed 27-May-26 07:32:41

It was a post on N & P that has got A into trouble.

In her post she misnamed a poster who was being lets say rather robust towards A

Magenta8 Wed 27-May-26 07:35:09

SpinDriftCoastal GN does state general instructions as to what is and is not acceptable but like most guidelines, they are open to interpretation.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 27-May-26 07:39:20

I haven’t seen the other poster on GN for a couple of days which is very unusual 🤷‍♀️

Maremia Wed 27-May-26 07:41:21

Oh, it was N&P. I thought 'site stuff' was an actual category.
If the Thead itself has not been pulled, it could be found in archives.

And that was enough for an instant ban? Strewth, and the offended poster's 'robustness' to Allira doesn't count? Would that we knew who it was then we could choose to avoid interaction with such a delicate coward who hasn't come forward to out themself.

TerriBull Wed 27-May-26 08:02:32

A intimated there was a poster, who she thought may have been a frequent name changer and who she considered may have reported her posts on several occasions. Possibly an ultimate goal to have A banned.

We've now lost one of our most popular posters, I doubt the same could be said of the person who had A in their sights.

The site will be poorer without A's wit, her intelligent and well informed posts and her nice nature. I'm very sad we won't be hearing from her.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 27-May-26 08:04:20

TerriBull I agree

I do wonder at times if there is a malicious poster (or maybe not even a ‘poster’, just a lurker) on Gnet who has the sole aim of getting posts deleted and other people banned. There have been some odd decisions made over the years. This is definitely one of them.

I suspect you may be onto something there. I know someone said earlier on this thread that GNHQ don't just ban people for no reason, but I've always found it a bit strange to say the least that some posters appear to be banned instantly for very little reason, but others seem to get away with murder.

Ok. I’m coming back briefly to say this is exactly why I stopped posting. Because I was being targeted with reports by a poster who I recognised -by style- as someone who had reported me before several times, Under a different name.

HQ sent me a warning that as I had been reported several times my next one would be a ban. That was when I exited from posting, though I still drop in to see what’s going on.

I expect I will be banned now.

Seriously HQ need to look a who is reporting and who they are reporting. There is deliberate targeted harassment by report.

The poster still walks amongst you in sheep’s clothing, busily telling everyone what a lovely person they are.

Grandmabatty Wed 27-May-26 08:33:13

I've often reported posts which are obvious scams. Only occasionally have I reported a post which was offensive and had feedback from the moderators. Sometimes the post was deleted and Sometimes it wasn't, but I was always told why. I have never asked for a poster to be banned as I think banning folk is unhealthy. I sincerely hope the person in question returns after a suspension, if she wants to.

Jaberwok Wed 27-May-26 08:34:21

I can remember years ago conversations getting very robust, but no one was ever banned! or so rarely as to be never. Usually GN would intervene asking posters to be more considerate of other opinions, and to lower the temperature otherwise the whole subject would be pulled! That was long ago and most of those posters have left or, like me virtually left, for whatever reasons.

Bellanonna Wed 27-May-26 08:39:18

I was actually quite shocked when I realised who it probably was as this person’s posts were never, to my mind, anything but interesting, grounded, informative and amusing. It was mentioned above that she was banned for mis-naming someone. I wonder what form thst took. I can’t imagine A calling someone an idiot although could have referred to their comment as idiotic. Or something along those lines. I would like to think that GNHQ would be able to reconsider this banning and reinstate this popular contributor.

nanna8 Wed 27-May-26 08:45:47

Apart from those posts from scammers, why does anyone feel the need to report someone ? Time the reporter ( who I think would be reasonably easy to identify) put on their big girl pants and grew up. How come they themselves don’t get banned for malicious reporting ? They should be.
