I am 73, a bit overweight, a bit of osteoarthritis, BP just in the healthy zone,5 reasonably active, do my own housework, gardening, light DIY, but no regular exercise regimen outside this. I have recently visited with a few friends who are not much older than me, and found their mobility and general health pretty poor, especially the mobility. It made me think I should work on my general fitness level. What type of exercise has worked for you? I am a member of the local authority gym/pool so I have access to facilities. I detest aerobic classes.

Pilates, Callanetics or Yoga are all good for muscle and bone strength along with keeping one flexible and mobile.

Good luck

I’d add any water based activities like Aqua and swimming are also pretty good and totally non weight bearing.

I also think any exercise using weights are excellence, you don’t have to use very heavy ones.

It might be worthwhile getting advice at your gym from a personal trainer, who will assess what fitness and lifestyle would benefit you best with a view to the future.
