Shopping seems to have become an activity/hobby rather than simply a way of acquiring the things you need or want. My DD is in a big ciy today to take DGC to a university open day. She is so looking forward to going round the shops. It is my idea of hell!

I used to enjoy pottering around the shops a bit when I was younger but reached my end with it when in a huge shopping centre in Manchester looking for a mother-of-the-bride outfit and just told myself Never Again! I hated the whole atmosphere - that horrible enclosed musak space - groan!

Thank goodness for online shopping.

Am I the only person who hates it!?

When I was younger and had a bit of a shape I enjoyed shopping but didn’t have much money. Older, misshaped but have some money I can’t find clothes that I like, to look smart or even good in. Moreover, if I do happen onto something it is to be dry cleaned. The shop assistant on my refusal to buy because of this, immediately chirps, that she has bought and it washes well, contrary to my expensive experience that clothes don’t even in cold water. So I don’t like shopping.

I loved browsing and can afford to buy something if it takes my eye BUT:

Now DH want to come and is quite a bully
- he huffs and puffs if I take a few minutes to look or decide
- if I look at, say, trousers, he will tell me that we came out for a jacket and march off
- recently hunting for a softer bra, he was picking out what I should look at!

Shops are not fully stocked and you get "if it is not out, we don't have it"

😁Catch 22 isn’t it?

If I need anything I go out and shop for it, do not order on line, like to see items. If i go to a village with independent shops do like browsing.

I don’t like shopping with anybody I like it totally on my own I haven’t got to worry I m boring them with the things I m looking at and I certainly don’t have to be bored by them going to shops I m not interested in
So it’s solo shopping for me

I prefer solo shopping too but it’s quite good if Mum comes along too as she enjoys browsing and is really good with styles and colours if clothes shopping. She also insists we have cakes with our coffee so I can blame her😁
I don’t like shopping with DP much as like most men he’s soon had enough and most of my friends and DD’s will shop til they drop.

I enjoy a good browsing afternoon, even if I don't have anything in mind that I need to purchase.

Mind you, I live in a smaller town with not many choices for shopping, so when visiting other town or on holidays I set aside an afternoon to shop, often with no end goal. Quite often I will come home with a new lipstick and scented candle.

I'm sure the novelty would wear off if I lived nearby plenty of shops.
