Hello all, sending good wishes.

Well, the other evening I noticed what was (for me, at least) the first spotting of the Ridiculous Perfume Adverts that seem to appear at this time of year. confused

Now, I'm sure that some of these scents are perfectly lovely, unlike my first experience of Dior Poison when it was newly launched, which led to a friend and I driving back from Windsor with our arms out of the car hmm

Why can't they just show a picture of the bottle, and say "this is jolly nice, it smells like roses/new mown grass/lillies/leather/unwashed stable boys etc?

But no! The impression that they give is that the perfume is so delicious, that you might want to throw yourself off a pier in full evening dress, whilst your erstwhile beloved drives his car around the beach writing messages for you.

I was trying to think back to some of the ones from last Christmas, but can only vaguely remember black clad women slinking around dark alleys, and some silly tart venturing into the sea wearing a lot of jewellery grin

Yeah I agree Phoenix, saw an ad on the other day, for I think one of Christian Dior's, in which Natalie Portman does a bit of screeching, hair pulling and running around before turning to the camera with a "and you what would you do for love?"

Who writes this s**t, cringemaking doesn't even begin to describe it grin

Ah yes- the eternal promises that perfume ads hold out....I have always worn Chanel Number 5, but have yet to meet a handsome young man in a tuxedo, tie nonchalantly loosened, who would kiss me on one perfectly bronzed shoulder......

I thought this was going to be about snow!

I think the adverts are daft.

EllanVannin Sun 28-Oct-18 15:50:33

I must agree about the silly perfume ads coming up. I wouldn't mind if what they advertised was true about some of the perfumes themselves. They're not a " one size fits all " item and are a pretty personal thing in the choosing of one.

Ooooo I love an unwashed stable boy, all rough and uncouth.

MiniMoon Sun 28-Oct-18 16:16:57

MissAdventure grin

Like he said, perfume adverts make no sense.

phoenix Sun 28-Oct-18 16:18:17

MissA love it! grin

Nonnie Sun 28-Oct-18 16:20:07

But they must work or they wouldn't keep paying the TV companies for them.

phoenix Sun 28-Oct-18 16:33:19

But who do they work on, Nonnie? Not me, for sure!

lemongrove Sun 28-Oct-18 16:36:27

I love Chanel No5, and there was a good ad for this a few years ago ( at least I think it was for Chanel) a girl dressed like Red Riding Hood, anyone remember it?
Most perfume ads are ridiculous though.

Willow10 Sun 28-Oct-18 19:54:30

I thought it was just me - I've never made sense of perfume or after shave adverts, or the stupid voices they use when they say the name! Who thinks these things up? Soon it will be time for the recycled, rejigged music albums too - 'the perfect gift for Christmas/Valentine/Easter/Mother's/Father's day!' confused

Luckygirl Sun 28-Oct-18 20:11:54

MissA - brilliant!

SpringyChicken Sun 28-Oct-18 20:15:33

I'm so busy thinking how ridiculous they are that I don't notice which product is being advertised.

Willow10 Sun 28-Oct-18 20:34:32

Miss A - love it! grin

Willow10 Sun 28-Oct-18 20:35:46

Miss A, thanks for posting clip, loved it, especially the bit about male models looking confused!!?

JackyB Mon 29-Oct-18 07:30:46

I grew up in Newmarket. Unwashed stable boys were all we had!

This is another reason why I don't watch TV.

oldbatty Mon 29-Oct-18 08:22:56

I have been outed. I am indeed Lady BatterlyChatterly. Although Batty Chateaux is not what it was and I have been obliged to take in paying guests.

annep Mon 29-Oct-18 09:43:53

They are ridiculous but actually a lot of ads are like this where we play Guess what they're advertising!
