Tattoos

As I said tongue piercing makes me squeamish, but I don't think the people who have them are seedy, sad, or have a tramp stamp, it's awful to call people names,and yes Mapleleaf people don't have to like them, everyone is entitled to a point of view,but judging people is by their style and individuality is cruel,

When our GD (then 18) seemed keen on the idea my DD said to her 'think about it, would you want the same handbag for the rest of your life?'. Did the trick - GD now 27 and clear.

So many judgmental people, not just on here but on the internet in general. Why not just answer the question or button it?

I promised myself one when I reached 60 then when I reached 65 and am now wondering if I dare finally do the deed when I reach the grand old age of 70. Really hate to see pretty young girls with huge t's all over their backs and shoulders and even worse when wearing a bridal gown BUT do have a hankering for a very small discreet one where the sun doesn't shine.

Well, that set the cat among the pigeons!! I kind of agree with all of your points of view.... and I have no idea why I'm thinking of getting one( for a significant birthday), but I remember thinking "good on her", when Judy Dench got one at the age of 80! I hate pain, and am notorious for changing my mind about things so it doesn't bode well . I think it would have to be on the inside of my wrist if anywhere.
My poor mother would be throwing her hands up in horror at the very suggestion. Thanks for all your input!

I've fancied a little discreet one for some time, but my late DH hated them and had a fit. I suppose I could please myself now..... Don't know what to have though. It would have to be where no-one (except me) could see it.

My Dad was very angry when I got 1, I got a severe reprimand, I was 45 !
he had them down both arms, he hated them, they were done when he was 17 in the navy, I remember liking them as a child, I liked the ""pictures " if he hadn't went on about hating them so much, I might not have been so keen on them ,

I think tattoos are tacky and strong perfume makes me heave especially when mixed with tobacco fumes. I also don't like big dangly earrings, cheap large jewellery pieces, drawn on thick black eyebrows and thick caked on make up. They make women look like clowns or worse- not attractive at all.

No not a lover of tattoo,s thankfully niether of my 2 sons or daughter have them so i,m happy.

I personally would never have one. The health issues worry me. Having said that, I certainly admire the artwork and skill of some tattooists. DS3 and DDIL 3 have tattoos which are meaningful to them.

I don't have tattoos and have never wanted any but a friend has quite a few and I asked her once whether she thought she would ever regret them she replied "what regret that I once had money and enjoyed myself?". I have seen some very artistic tattoos and had to admire the skill of the artist (still didn't convince me to have any myself though!)

Our neighbour, at our previous home, was in her 30’s and had numerous tattoos and also body piercings. She loved them, I was less keen and we often talked about the ‘why” of it for her. She had a reason for each that truly mattered to her. I was always shown the new ones and asked for my opinion which I learned to give honestly. Some were beautiful others I thought lesss so. Our neighbour was kind, helpful, thoughtful and often did small practical kindnesses without being asked for us ‘old’ folks. I learned a lot from her and yes, as I said before, if I can pluck the courage a small tattoos (not a piercing) will arrive on me. My sons will be horrified though

Surely transfers are much more fun as you can change them according to your mood and outfit. Why have something permanent?
Saying that, I have threatened my family that if I ever had a tattoo it would be an elephant - for I have plenty of room for one and it would improve and become more realistic as my wrinkles increase!!!

I've got two little butterflies in the middle of my back. Got them done must be about 15 years ago. Tend to forget they're there! have also got a belly-button ring which is just a bit of fun! DS has several large ones on his body and DD has one at the top of her leg. However, DN has them all over, especially on her arms, and I really don't like that! Each to his own though!

Gosh everyone is entitled to their opinions but there are some very prejudiced and unkind comments about people who have tattoos. I have two a butterfly and one in memory of my dad Stanley. I love them!

Do they wrinkle when you get old?

I spent 5 days at Bondi beach in January with my DD. I had
always said I would like a small tattoo to tick it off the bucket
list. I saw a world renowned tattoo parlour on the beach front and bit the bullet.I now have a small palm tree tattoo on my ankle it represents my love of the sun and my visit to
Bondi a treat from my DD who lives in Australia. I’m 62 at the end of the month and very happy I had it done. But understand it’s not for everyone. Some friends think I’m mad.

My father got two during the war - a scorpion on one forearm and a catherine wheel on the other. Very tasteful. He could make the scorpion move.

I think a lot of serviceman got them at that time when they were on leave, it was the done thing.

Conni7My previous comment referred to women with tattoos and what they would look like when the person reached ninety or hundred as we are informed we are living longer. Not a pretty sight one would imagine The odd flower or some ones name I would not consider ott but when you look around at the extremes some women go to then I only hope they consider they will not always be in their first flush of youth with taut skin and tattoos cannot be removed like cosmetics.

My DH hates tattoos with a passion, but I quite fancy getting one done. The only reason I haven't is the one given by a poster earlier - would I want to use the same handbag forever? When my DGS1 arrived, I considered a small blue footprint in his honour, somewhere discreet, perhaps with his initials or date of birth. I'd have four of them now marching up my arm or wherever and I'm not sure that'd be a good look. I'm still mulling it over though - if I can come up with something small honouring the four boys (and any future additions!), I might just go for it. Or perhaps as an active WASPI woman I should have a little wasp done on my wrist? Either way I wouldn't give two hoots what anyone else thinks!

WHY go to the hassle, expense and pain of a real tattoo when you could easily get the same effect with a transfer that washes off when you get fed up with the design?

You wouldn't constantly wear the same dress, trousers, make up or hairstyle for decades, would you? I always think, when seeing a rose (or similar) design highlighting the curves of a beautiful young woman- what on earth is that going to look like in fifty years'time?

Myself, I'd rather use the money for a nice weekend away making memories! But, each to her own...

I wouldn't dream of getting a tattoo. DD2 has a small one that can''t be seen, I've never commented on it to her. Tattoos that cover the arms, legs or even faces make me feel queasy. When I was working I would have hated to have been sitting close to one colleague whose arms were completely tattooed. I have my ears pierced (only one piercing), would consider any more.

My DD has a few tattoos, very tasteful & a reminder of important family members. I don't personally like them but I'd never say never, I may change my mind, a duck would be appropriate, calm on the surface & paddling like crazy under the surface or a swan.

DD's OH has some as well. My DM doesn't like them but she agrees with me it's their choice.

Piercings disturb me more, don't like tongue ones or the ones through the eyebrow & as for the "stretched" holes with a large stone Yuk but that's my point of view. As I told my eldest Step-S when he had a tattoo done at 18 "you have to live with it", his M went crazy, no point it's too late when it's done

I absolutely hate them. Not for me in any way, shape or form, not for all the tea in China.
