Tattoos

My daughter asked what I thought of tattoo's when she was about 16... I said I didn't like them but understood all people are different! She got one!! And went on to get a few more. None are awful. Although one is quite big on her arm. My son didn't bother to ask.... he got one when he was about sixteen and didn't bother telling me.... he'd had it two months before he took his shirt if one warm day and I 'clocked" it. It's their body and their lives. Why get so get up about something they will do especially if you say no.

I wouldn't have one at all. Just looking at them makes me feel sick. My 92 year old Father has them on his arms [army]. I think they are creepy and his now look dreadful. yuk.

It doesn't matter what age you are when you get them you are still going to have them when you get old, and having a tattoo doesn't mean you are a tramp, that is an dated opinion, women wear very revealing clothes these days,have everything pierced and have cosmetic surgery this too would have been criticized years ago,some people think of them as works of art!people can do what they like with their own bodies and if it's going to cause professional people like nurses being judged its ridiculous, I work in a hospital and LOTS of people have them, if you don't like don't look!

I’ve got a bumble-bee on my tum. I love it and couldn’t care less what anyone thinks of it. However, I’m of the opinion that ‘less is more’ so shall not be getting any more.

So, I'm not alone in hating these ugly things that deface the skin. It puzzles me how so many people who say they haven't got any money, can afford to have them done.

My daughter is a Tattoed nurse, it doesn't affect her ability to do her job, she's a very caring generous person, who puts her patients 1st, my other daughter also has tattooes, she has a good job is also a good person and a brilliant mother, there's nothing seedy about any of us,

A very small one at my DDs suggestion an elephant one our wrists which, when you put wrists together they make a heart with their trunks. So sweet but I had to point out the one day one half of the heart will be missing so she replied that she would get her daughter (not got any children yet) to get one and so carry it on. Sweet, but i haven’t had the nerve to have it done yet

I have 3. One lower back of a dove with 4 red roses symbolising 4 miscarriage's, one on left forearm of an infinity mother face and child, and one on right forearm of a red rose ...... they are personal to me and cannot be removed even in death. They are my story. Why people loathe them is odd, such a strong word.

Whenever I see these 'adornments 'the first thing that comes to mind, what a sad need to get a life person I am, and as we are allegedly living longer and more women subjecting themselves to not just one but quite a few tattoos, is of a lady of ninety maybe a hundred with more pictures on her body, , than are hanging on the walls of the Tate.

Denil963 I apologise if my comments cause you hurt. Maybe not to every ones taste but the ashes of my loved ones have been saved and will be interred with me when the time comes.

Yes how very dare people with not much money spend it on things others don't like, what ever happened to "never judge a book by its cover"

I'm off Gransnet, it seems to have alot of closed minds, and looking down on people, instead of calling people sad ,get a life people get on with your own life, and live and let live, everybody has different taste,and some tattooes have sentimental meanings,

Not too keen on too many tattoos but I wanted a tiny mouse on the inside of my wrist. Unfortunately, I bruise so badly that it would end up as a big purple blob. Not a good look!?

I also had a tattoo removed and in my opinion, the pain of laser treatment would be on par with childbirth, so I thought long and hard before getting it done!!

I still love it as much as when I first had it done.

I used to work in a profession where no visible tattoos were allowed but I certainly wouldn't judge anyone based on whether they had tattoos or not.

Those saying they are 'common' or 'stamp tramps' are shallow and compartmentalising people based on largely untrue portrayals.

I think, grannyinmypocket that most posters here have said that they either like tattoos or they don’t, giving their reasons. I don’t think that constitutes people having closed minds if they say they dislike them and say why they dislike them. It is up to individuals whether they have tattoos or not, but that doesn’t mean that posters have to be in agreement over their feelings about tattoos. You are quite right in saying that people have different tastes and that some tattoos hold special meaning to the wearer. However, not everyone likes tattoos, and it’s a fact that over time, many fade, skin wrinkles and perhaps then they don’t look quite as appealing as they once did. That said, people who have them are probably well aware of that, and if they choose to have them, fine. They are just not to everyone’s taste and I think it’s ok to say that without being accused of not having a life for saying so.

Like most posters, they are not for me (someone else's drawing on my body - yuk) but in answer to your question, I'd have my DCs names in a laurel wreath shape. Somewhere I can see it but not inflict it on anyone else, maybe the front shoulder. Then I'd probably want DGCs names there too ... and what about DPs and OH? Maybe not! Otherwise I like the sound of the bumble bee.

I had a butterfly on the inside of my right wrist as my 60th birthday madness. I love it.

Some one posted when they see these adornments she thinks the wearer's sad needs to get a life! I don't mean everyone on here needs to get a life, but if one can presume someone who has at tattoo needs to get a life, it's a bit ridiculous! Dame Judy Dench has a tattoo on her wrist, it was a 82nd birthday present from her daughter, poor sad Judy, she needs to get a life,

I personally would not have a tattoo,my D's does have them on both forearms,Dd does not and says never will. I went to a wedding recently and the bride looked beautiful.in a stunning sleeveless dress,but on one arm was a mass of blue ink tatoos,which somehow marred the over all effect and made her look common ,I know it was her choice etc,. I wonder what she would think of the photos in 20hrs time...perhaps airbrush them out!
