I've just watched an EastEnders repeat and Ben took a carton of milk from the fridge, had a swig from it then replaced it, presumably complete with a good helping of germs! Yuk, yuk. What makes your stomach turn?

Accidentally stepping on a slug in bare feet (no, I've never seen a slug in shoes, either!)

Reading the Howard's End thread reminded me that watching other people on tv or film having rampant sex makes me go Yuk!
Please leave something to the imagination

Polyester I am with you on this, I think the only thing that makes me go yuk is spitting. Out in SE Asia at the moment and spent the day at a village house teaching basic sewing skills. We ate lunch sat on the floor with our hands after washing them in the bowl and ate I don’t no what or how it was prepared but I did refuse the curried snails. Stomachs fine.

Skweek1 definitely yuk!!.

I have a cat who belonged to my DD, when I moved nearer to her she asked me to have cat "as he would be company for me". He does jump up on the worktops but he was fed on top of the freezer when DD had him as she had 3 small dogs.

At almost 7 years old I was never going to break that habit, I do use chopping boards & clean worktops.

Cat's worst habit is sitting on my Dinning Table when I'm out, he sits looking out of the windowtchgrin.

Dogs licking faces YUK

tanith better that than the other way around. Mines slugs, I'm fine with snails though

People spitting on the pavement, people blowing their nose with their fingers and men in particular sniffing enough to drag a small person up their nostrils.

Teddy123 Mon 04-Dec-17 11:06:33

Dog poo!

Teddy123 Mon 04-Dec-17 11:08:40

Also people picking their noses & people who fart!

Conni7 Mon 04-Dec-17 11:09:40

Fish counters in Supermarkets, open to all those germs floating around. Why don't they cover them?

Kupari45 Mon 04-Dec-17 11:13:01

When we come downstairs first thing each morning our Terrier comes to us and we get a lick on the face-to say good morning Mum and Dad. Once a day our cat would sit at the side of the kitchen sink and meow to have a drink from the running tap. He thought it was great.
Occasionally I go next door for a coffee and cake, and our neighbour comes out with dettol spray and wipes down the work top after serving us, now that does make me go Yuk!

DanniRae Mon 04-Dec-17 11:13:47

Surely Conni7 if there are germs floating around we are breathing them in all the time? Sometimes I think we can be a bit too fussy.

My dogs do lick my face and i'm ok with that. My husband can't stomach the poo lifting duties so that falls to me. I grew up on a farm so excrement doesn't faze me but he's a city boy! I think we all have our own sick inducing things. I used to see a woman on my morning commute who took the time to excavate the dirt from her nails and then file them before brushing the detrius onto the floor. I also refuse to eat in a coffee shop where the food is self service as I've see so many examples of people lifting things with the bare hands and then replacing the item. People in the queue sniffling, sneezing and coughing over the items is just not on. I only go to those places where the items are lifted from behind glass by the staff. Worst peeve of all however has to be all those people who sneeze then wipe their nose with the back of their hand and carry on doing whatever they were doing or in some cases even then wipe the hand on their clothes.

Saw a program last night were a mother gave her grown son a snog and he returned the complement, still feel sick thinking about it.?

Esspee Mon 04-Dec-17 11:27:27

People who bring their animals to deafacate on my property. They think picking it up absolves them of any responsibility.

polyester57 Mon 04-Dec-17 11:30:06

Teddy123, I had to laugh, surely everybody picks their nose and farts. Only, most of us have been conditioned to do this in private. I live on my own now and confess to doing both.

NannyTee Mon 04-Dec-17 11:31:29

Every day I have a bag of dog excrement placed on top of my hedge . Why not just take it home with them grrr I don't have animals anymore yet daily cleaning up after all the neighborhood cats. Not fair !!

Overthehills Mon 04-Dec-17 11:31:35

Gordon Bennett! Have just cleaned the bathrooms and kitchen - my priorities - might have to go and do them all again after reading this, just to make sure!

Netzin Steklis, a biologist at the University of Arizona who is working on a study of the elderly to learn more about how living with dogs changes their skin and gut microbiomes, says that pet owners have long known that animal companionship can lift our mood. “But it is not just an oxytocin story anymore,” she said, referring to the brain chemical often called the hormone of love. She suspects that the physiological effect of their bacteria in our guts may contribute to the well-known antidepressive benefit of pet ownership.
Dogs have been with humans for 40,000 years,” she said. “But we are only now looking to find out how living with them impacts our health.

I must have a strong stomach. None of these make me go yuk. And I rarely suffer from any stomach illness. BUT, I would never touch any nibbles left out in a public place and have a bit of a thing about washing my hands.

Allegra22 Mon 04-Dec-17 11:43:15

The only thing specified here that completely grosses me out is the dog licking the dentures and that’s because I have a false teeth phobia! Dogs licking faces, cats on work surfaces meh! I was born and brought up in the bush in Africa, not much phases me.

I once gave a young couple a telling off in our local Lidl for handling several unwrapped loaves of bread and putting them back in the display baskets. From their accents they seemed to be from Central Europe so maybe that’s what is customary for them to do at markets, but ... no.

lindiann Mon 04-Dec-17 11:56:50

friend letting their dog drink tea out of a cup they use UGHH!!!

shysal Mon 04-Dec-17 12:00:30

I can't think of anything that makes me go "Yuk". A childhood on a farm, often barefoot by choice as it is a lot easier to wash cow muck off feet than to clean shoes or boots. Squeezing blow fly maggots out of cows' backs, cleaning out pig sties, helping at difficult births all taken in the stride. Gutting rabbits moments after they had been shot was a quick and relatively odorless task, cleaning chickens and well hung game birds not quite so. My mother always said we would eat a peck of dirt before we died, and it would do us no harm. I think the preponderance of allergies and intolerances in the young is down to too much weight given to hygiene.

Phoenix I have a similar story; my mother had been out with her friends and called for a fish and chip supper on her way home. After she had eaten, she put her feet up and took out her top set, leaving them on the arm of her chair. A few minutes later she noticed the dog was gnawing on a bone....only it wasn't a bone grin
