Good grief Grannybiker your life must be a minefield!! Poor immune system .... try taking zinc supplement it works for me, then perhaps you can stop worrying about shopping bags on work surfaces.... if mine were put on floor...I couldn’t bend to pick them up!! ( 2 prolapsed disks). Anyway people , never heard the phrase ‘ a pound of dirt before you die’.... there is such a thing as TOO clean you know. But the dog licking thing I agree with and the teeth!!!! Aaarrrgghh!

Rosieroe, I live in Central Europe and, yes, we do have unwrapped loaves. Plastic bags and gloves are always available for people to test the softness of the bread. If anyone were to do that with their bare hands a dozen elderly ladies would set upon them, telling them off for doing that. You were quite right for doing that. Just to let you know that, no, it is not customary.

People putting knives in mouths to lick in restaurants. I was always told not to do this. Cutting tongue is possible. When I see it I feel sick.

I know my cat walks over work surface to sit above where dish washer is as surface gets warm. When I anm there i stop him but when I am not there i know he will do it so first job we all do when entering house is spray work surfaces and disinfect them all.

All of the above plus any kind of unwrapped food in supermkts or cafes not behind a glass screen. The number of times I've seen people pick up pastries etc with their hands - not even the tongs provided - look at them and then put them down again!!!

People sneezing in public without a tissue or attempt to shield others. I have seen the video where they show you how far the germ-laden droplets travel. Ugh! One sneeze and the rest of us are ill.

Men are the worst at this. They sneeze as if a bomb is going off.

On second thoughts, I've decided I'm not a slob, too many of you are just over the top with hygiene. How on earth you think the human race lived so long must be a mystery to you.

Agree about the sneezing in public. Recently there was an article about how important hand washing was and even though I was always told when I was a child, I now take extra care. Every time I´m in I head straight for the bathroom to wash my hands.

Dead flies! We have an infestation of them in a warm autumn and I can come home and the floor by the windows will be heaving with flies, some some wizzing round on their backs almost dead and literally hundreds dead. It makes me feel sick to think about it!

The increasing number of women who I see using public toilets and go straight to the exit door without walking their hands. Ugh. I don’t want to open the exit door after I see that. ?

People have more disgusting habits than animals , who don't really know any better,
Like spitting, not washing hands, using a dish cloth to wash the floor,list of human YUKS is endless

Children picking their noses and then eating it. That makes me retch.

I've had cats for years and they've all sat/walked on the worktops - I never prepare food directly on there though not only for hygiene reasons but also to avoid damaging them. I think I can probably go one better with the false teeth - in his later years when he'd developed dementia my father would take his false teeth out after a meal and lick them himself I would quickly stop him but it always made me feel sick. I think my pet hates are food uncovered in bakeries, shop assistants licking their fingers to open bags and women not washing their hands as they leave public toilets. Also agree dogs shouldn't lick faces.

I am disgusted by people in TV or movies, who are shown brushing their teeth, spitting out repeatedly, and leaving it there, without ever bothering to give the sink a good rinse. Yuk!!!

I actually love those programmes about other people’s filthy houses.
It’s so nice to see their pleasure when everything has been spruced up, and besides, it all makes me feel less guilty about my own less-than-perfect house cleaning!

Changing a baby's nappy anywhere apart from the bathroom.....the young think it is ok to do it on the sitting room floor, admittedly on a changing mat but in front of anyone and everyone! Old nursery nursing habits die hard-I still took my DGS into the bathroom to change him and will do the same for subsequent GCs.

Definitely all the pets comments -licking, walking on surfaces, sitting on chairs make me want to throw up. I had to be very careful to say nothing round my MIL because she encouraged it.
Marieeliz, my mum said the same and I passed the message on to my children. One child's friend didn't believe me and DID curt her tongue. I was amazed because I didn't think our knives were that sharp.
If you are caught out with a sneeze, sneeze on the back of your hand rather than the front. Then if you have to touch anything else before using a wipe, you're not putting snot on everything. I never hold onto handrails because of what I've seen go on to them.

Well it all goes to show that whtever you do you ribably offend someone. For example : i think using cloth handkerchieves which can be washed and ironed to kill germs is MUCH more hygienic than leaving used tissues everywhere! And I xant bear to see people shuffli g around tge hoyse in sluppers ot bare fewt - wear proper shoes!
I cant stand oeople who hover over toilets and leave the seat wet for me to sit on ! I cant stand seeing peope spit in the street and not keen on being livked by dogs but pretty much all the rest dont disgust me.

Couldnt care less about bags in tables or workrops, trolley handles and all tge otger things some get neurotic about. Just use chopping boards to prepare food, wipe down tabkes etc regularly (with Water!) always wash your hands thoroughly , that's all that's necessary!

I had to report a bakery assistant in Sainsbury's once. She wasn't actually serving, but chatting to the person who was and picking bits of food out between her teeth with her finger nail. Then she disappeared into the back and I bet it wasn't to wash her hands.

The thought of cats and dogs sleeping on the bed - yuk.

A cat or dog - or any animal - licking a human face - in particular a baby or a toddler ??
