Magazines for your summer holiday?

RamblingRose22, in answer to your speculative question, I rather think Saga and Oldies pretty much covers the market. I had a sub to the former for many years but they've recently changed their format as well as being top heavy with ads so I withdrew my support. I think Private Eye and the Spectator have a lot going for them but the latter can be a bit heavy although very informative.

I think I should probably give up GH and spend the money on a subscription to a puzzles magazine so that I can keep my brain active!

cherrytree59. It is under my 'nom de plume' (pretentious? moi?). So far there have been 5 published and there's one pending. Last year's Christmas special featured one of mine set in a certain department store. There was another set there too. Somehow I often find myself writing about Grans being naughty. Can't think why!
They're also in book 2 which is out next month. Apologies for advertising. No names no pack drill!

I like Woman's Weekly and Prima I also like home decor mags. I really hate celebrity magazines. Who really cares what they get up to. Most of them haven't the sense they were born with.

Does the Radio Times count as a magazine? It's the only one I buy but my daughter did buy me a subscription to Woman and Home as I always used to read her copy when visiting! I think that they are too expensive generally and couldn't justify spending the money.

The cheap magazines are usually filled with a lot of celebrity gossip or lurid accounts of dysfunctional relationships - "My husband cheated on me with my Mum" - that sort of thing. The glossy ones are full of lush photographs of beautiful women in strange clothes - and adverts. They cost an absolute fortune so I'd rather buy a paperback.

As well of a number of professional magazines I read Homes and Interiors Scotland which has great features on architecture, interior design and art.

I don't buy magazines - can't remember the last time. Prefer books.

I never take magazines on holiday, it's hard enough getting through security these days, although I understand why and am not complaining. I take my Kindle,as I prefer a book to magazines and it gives me lots of choice for reading.

I was going to join the ranks of the grown ups and claim I never read magazines. Then remembered I've still got a cheap subscription to Prima, that I keep meaning to cancel (I save the patterns, but haven't sewn anything for years). I get engrossed in the sleb mags at the hairdresser's, and I can be awake for hours reading the scandal papers my sister leaves by the bed when I stay over. Oh, and DH still insists on having the Radio Times delivered, and I do read it.

I just take books on holiday, though. Back in the day I used to like the Summer Specials and save them for when we went away.

I don't subscribe to mags at present but I do enjoy House type magazines from time to time, The Oldie and Homes & Antiques. Like others I abhor 'celebrity' type magazines. I do enjoy a daily newspaper though.

I used to enjoy, Best, Bella, woman and woman's own but find that they are mainly recycling events from This Morning or Loose Women. I used to love readers digest, not sure if is still going. Holiday reading for me is always books, lots off them. Enjoy your holiday.
