Both parents must have been born in the U.K.

(Restore)

I don't think they're get far with that, it's nonsense.

grumppa Fri 07-Aug-26 09:22:02

As has been pointed out, this excludes King Charles III. And his dad wasn't even born in the Commonwealth.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Aug-26 09:22:25

Wonder what will happen to the King😄😄😄

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Aug-26 09:22:46

Snap😊

grumppa Fri 07-Aug-26 09:25:11

Even Alister Heath, who is so right wing that he virtually falls off the edge of the page in the Daily Telegraph, has ripped into Restore on this.

Fallingstar Fri 07-Aug-26 09:28:36

Totally unworkable.
But then what did anyone expect.
Is like Reform saying they will use the navy to stop small boats.
I imagine many people in the UK want to see an end to the illegal trafficking of vulnerable people seeking asylum or just a shot at a better life, but only long term workable policies thought out with the cooperation of other European countries will work.

These people want to be our leaders!!

MawsRosie Fri 07-Aug-26 09:36:24

These people want to be our leaders!!

This is how you appeal to the low common denominator and, as it stands would mean my children would not be British and nor would many who are the children of children of service personel.

No doubt there would be "exceptions" but with such a blunt piece of legislation it could easily be manipulated.

Those whose far-right streak makes them excited about this should remember history.

One of the Nazi government's most significant legal changes was to redefine who counted as a citizen of Germany. The key change came with the Nuremberg Laws, passed in September 1935. These laws created two different legal statuses:

Reich citizens: People considered to have "German or related blood" who were deemed loyal to the Nazi state. Only they enjoyed full political rights, such as voting and holding public office.

State subjects: Everyone else remained subjects of the German state but without full citizenship rights.

The laws primarily targeted Jews, who were stripped of their German citizenship regardless of how long their families had lived in Germany. The Nazis also used racial ideology to discriminate against other groups, including many Romani people and people of African descent, though the legal treatment varied.

The Nazi government also introduced detailed racial classifications to determine who was considered Jewish based on ancestry rather than religion. This meant that someone could be classified as Jewish even if they did not practice Judaism.

These citizenship changes were a crucial step in the Nazis' broader program of persecution. By removing legal protections and political rights, the regime made it easier to exclude Jews from public life, confiscate property, and later carry out increasingly severe persecution that culminated in the Holocaust.

Restore make Reform look like a bunch of lefties. They are the real racists, not Reform.

MawsRosie Fri 07-Aug-26 09:53:30

All perfectly true DaisyAnneReturns but let’s not panic and run around like Henny Penny squealing “Nazi Nuremberg Laws.”
Some of us - many- are all too aware and were even affected-or our parents/grandparents were, so let’s not catastrophise.
I prefer to think of one of my fathers favourite phrases and “treat this with the contempt it deserves”

Magenta8 Fri 07-Aug-26 09:59:27

I was born in the UK. I have lived here all my life. Both my parents were UK passport holders but as neither of my grandfathers was born in the UK and neither was my mother I am not British. Makes perfect sense.confused

I wouldn’t go quite that far😄😄😄.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Aug-26 10:02:20

Well I’m British to my core.

Feel quite superior😄

😂😂😂

Ah well, lots of us have family who will be packing their bags!!
What about Farage's children? Will Lowe be helping them pack?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Aug-26 10:24:20

Does Restore define those non-British?

I wonder what we superior British could call all the non- British?

Immigrants? The population of immigrants will suddenly vastly outnumber us superior British.

Time to panic.

MaizieD Fri 07-Aug-26 10:24:37

My grandmother was born in the West Indies in a British 'colony'. (Which made her legally British, of course.) My mother was born there, too.

So how would Restore classify me and my siblings?

I understand they want to deport a million immigrants. With their definition of British I think they'd have to deport half the population grin

Restore make Reform look like a bunch of lefties. They are the real racists, not Reform.

Bit of a sweeping statement 😂 !

DaisyAnneReturns Fri 07-Aug-26 10:29:30

I don't think those who are aware are my worry MawsRosie.

We're you born in the UK? I don't feel in immediate danger but then, neither did many of the Jews, of those who had been specifically threatened in the USA.

Please don't tell me how seriously I should take the threats of those whose beliefs are based on violence, hatred, or intolerance when it appears to include me. I chose to believe the people of this country are better than that, but I also look at history - including in recent years - and know that "good people" rarely win against monsters - at least not in the monsters early days in power.

MollyNew Fri 07-Aug-26 10:33:43

Are Restore just baiting Reform? Nigel Farage's children have dual British and German nationality and Zia Yusuf's parents were born in Sri Lanka.

This type of headline catching, divisive "policy" just promotes more political in-fighting when the country has more important things to worry about.

DaisyAnneReturns Fri 07-Aug-26 10:35:46

Well I’m British to my core.

Under current rules, so am I - well as much as anyone in this mongrel nation.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Aug-26 10:42:23

That’s two superiors then. 😊

Question

If you are not British because your parents were not born in the U.K., but you marry a superior British person, does that mean your offspring are British or not, as you do not have British status?

Anyone think that it is time to disband Restore😄😄😊

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 07-Aug-26 10:52:53

That’s my granddaughter out the door then! Her mum was born in S Africa.
