Magazines for your summer holiday?

I'm probably in a minority but I honestly can't remember when I last bought any magazine since they went all 'celebrity' they hold no interest for me plus I can't afford to waste so much money. I just don't read them preferring my book.

I'm with you in the minority tanith, haven't bought magazines for years, back in the day when Woman and Woman's Own were magazines and not recycling gossip. I do like to wade through Good Housekeeping in the hospital waiting room though.

Used to buy Woman and Best, but am increasingly annoyed that they now seem only to be sold packaged (for more money!) with mags that I am totally uninterested in

I buy Woman's Weekly for the problem page and the crafts.
Most of the ones I used to buy like Woman, Woman,s own Bella, Best are full of articles about people I have never heard of.
For going on holiday I might get Good Housekeeping or Prima.
or if I am flying abroad I get a couple of American ones at the airport, just for the novelty. (even if they are packed with adverts for medicines)

I buy Woman's Weekly fiction special to take on holiday.

I never buy the celebrity magazines or the ones with hideous disasters plastered on their front pages - My Budgie went Berserk with a Chainsaw! type of things.

I sometimes buy Yours, Psychologies, Woman's Weekly.

I'm another one who can't remember when I last bought a magazine. The closest I've been was when I bought the May edition of Gardeners World in order to get their 2for1 all-year entry to various gardens! I don't count GW as a magazine as it's more of an information/reference publication! IMHO!

I only ever but hello or ok when there is a celeb wedding I want to have a nosy at but I wait until they go on offer at 50p at the end of the month. Very rare occasion though . Think the last one was Rooney wedding .
Waste of money all the ones full of silly stories and you can't believe half of it . I know someone's who had a story in one of them and most of it was hyped up to make it seem more interesting.
For holiday reading I but a couple of paperbacks to take outdoors and save my kindle for indoors.

I only read other people's magazines if they sling one my way and then not often. I have a look at the gossipy ones when I go to the hairdresser's which is only about every 6 weeks.

Apart from that, I read the inflight magazine or buy a book of crossword puzzles.

Yours is not full of celebs it has interesting articles aimed at our generation. It is published fortnightly so quiet economical.

I used to buy Red and GH but find both deadly dull now, full of adverts, expensive clothes and impossible recipes with weird ingredients not available outside of London or Daylesford Organic.

I used to buy Good Housekeeping but haven't bought it or any others for about eight years.
one of our DD's came round one day, saw this mag on the coffee table and laughed ( scoffed!) at the title of it.I went to make us a drink, and when I returned she was engrossed in it.The title may put some off but I thought it was a good magazine.

I like Landscape, lots of really good articles, ideas for craft and garden and great recipes. It comes out every 2 months and hardly has any adverts or articles about women who re invented themselves while living on 50 p a week!

I am a big magazine reader, but not those with celebrities or the weeklies. I binge on house deco magazines; Country Living and Period something or another. DD, who usually comes on holiday with us, brings Your Home and Your style (or some such names). As you can see we do not bother with titles very much, but flip through the magazines and buy them on content

I have just returned from a break in France with 2 French home deco magazines.

I only ever look at magazines in waiting rooms.

Would never dream of buying one these days...

I read "Woman's Weekly" and "Yours" Magazine. I sometimes buy Prima.
I also love puzzle magazines but can't stand the ones with horrendous story lines on the front. So I don't buy them.

I have subscriptions to Good Housekeeping, Woman and Home, Prima, and Woman's Weekly so am a bit addicted. My dear friend bought me a subscription to Vogue last Christmas which I didn't think I'd like at all but in the midst of the outrageous clothes there are some very interesting articles. Unfortunately she died suddenly in January and every time it arrives I think of her and am sad. For an extra treat sometimes I buy a House Beautiful/ Homes and Gardens etc. I love a magazine. I usually pass them on to a friend.

I used to read Woman & Home mag occasionally when I was working f/t..it was a bit of light relief but tbh there is nothing in mags that I am particularly interested in! I look through some dross at the doctor's/ dentist waiting room..it is all total rubbish..either dramarama stories of two-timing celebs/ everyday folk or else it is how to look slimmer/more beautiful/younger etc all wrapped up in adverts! I have occasionally bought a garden mag for inspiration if I am thinking of doing something to the garden

A neighbour has subscriptions to Yours and Peoples Friend. Her daughter has 3 weekly magazines delivered, which are then passed to her mother. They are all then shared with another neighbour before coming to me, then into the recycling! A lot of the articles in the weekly magazines are the same - just published in different issues. I'm sure the content 50 years ago was a lot more interesting (and affordable) than it is today

Last time read a magazine was in the Doctor's waiting room.
It was about Narrow boating and the waterways.
And very interesting it was too

For holidays I get Book from the charity shop and swap as many hotels have a book corner or I read my kindle.

I read W&H. GH. and Landscape..BUT buy from the charity shop..20p each ?. wouldnt dream of paying around £4?

Wouldn't ever buy one! Expensive (the "quality" ones) and full of advertising.

An ex work colleague would often buy one at Paddington Station as we were heading home after a meeting.

I was amazed at how little there was to read in them!

I get Prima "free" with my Lloyds account but am greeting a bit bored with it and haven't used the dressmaking patterns for ages. Today I looked for a mag to take on holiday but ended up with Sainsburys magazine as it had a free box of Ricola sweets which made it a bargain!

I subscribe to the Oldie Magazine. I love it a mix of really great articles, black humour and competitions etc. My sister thinks I'm halarious buying a publication with that name!

I only look at magazines at the hairdresser but do enjoy Private Eye.
However, please keep buying People's Friend. Lots of lovely stories in it (some of them by me!)
