My DD and SIL were invited to a wedding and sent a gift of money, which had been requested by the couple. They received a politely framed message, thanking them for their gift, but suggesting that they might like to 'upgrade' the amount they had given, to better reflect the whole expense of the wedding involved. My DD and SIL didn't change the amount of their gift, and even attended the wedding. I'm afraid that I would have been mortally offended and lost a couple of 'friends.' Is this the new norm?
