I knew that DH had a strange foible......

He isn't the only one kitty as my DH does the same ( more or less) in that he doesn't like any green mugs,or fancy shaped ones, or bone china ones ( pottery only) and out of about 25 mugs only likes 6! Picky or what?

We have our favourite cups, but not a different one for different times of the day. In fact, we are just slobs because we tend to use the same cup over and over throughout the day - just rinsing it out each time

Thank goodness there's someone else like me!

I have to have my morning cuppa in a large black cup with white spots. Nothing else will do.

Mid morning coffee has to be a small, slim mug - any one of three hanging on the dresser will do so long as it's not a large, clunky mug.

Afternoon tea is in a mug with 'Tea Break' written on the side.

We have various mugs with Tea and Coffee written on them and heaven help DH if he puts the wrong drink in them.

My husband does the same sort of thing. But what annoys me is when he tells people "In this house, we use these mugs e.g. for coffee". I always have to chide him gently tell him to shut up and speak for himself

Well, I have to say I have my favourite mugs too ;) any will do as long as they are bone china and not earthenware- honestly, it does make a difference to the taste ;) DH doesn't care at all.

I have morning mugs, afternoon mugs, a peppermint tea one and, importantly, weekend only ones. I don't know when these rules set in. I only know that they are tremendously important. DH can drink out of anything.

The man who helps us in the garden only drinks tea. He likes it very strong indeed and leaves the tea bag in which I find disgusting because rather than chuck it on the compost heap he brings it back into the kitchen and I have to fish it out!!

Needless to say he has a mug with his name on it!!

Mugs for coffee but bone china and dainty, with a saucer, for tea. OH still hasn't quite got it.

Same for me. morning coffee mug, which annoys Mrs.P because it has a chip but I won't throw it away. Afternoon tea mug, evening coco mug.

MrBags does the rinsing out thing that indi and her husband do. And he slops water all over the worktop near the kettle. Grr. I've put a quilted water slop mopping up mat there now cos I got fed up of wiping up after him.

DD2 has lived in a number of shared houses and she didn't like other people using her favourite mug so she just stopped wahing it, left it with a dirty, used look. Unsurprisingly, people stopped using it. I think she washes it about once a fortnight.

Now I have six, and MrB doesn't get to use them He doesn't need to, I've supplied him with a jam jar full (it might be a honey or marmalade jar) right by the kettle.

Mine have extra long handles.

DH would have a hard time designating mugs in my house, they are all plain white China ones ?

I made late night cup of tea to be informed that I had used the 'morning mugs' - who knew?, I didn't.

Bone china only, for me too. I really don't like pottery mugs, and mugs with straight sides ("what I like to call" builders mugs!) are an absolute no-no. That's my foible. One of many! DD bought me a Wedgewood cup and saucer to keep at her house as their mugs all tend to be on the hefty, rustic side. When I visit DS my d-i-l will root out one of their Denby cups and saucers for me - she says it's the only time they get an outing! I also have a thing about cutlery not matching. I think I need help! DH doesn't have foibles, except that he gets a bit touchy about which order his pillows are put on the bed! He 'tuts' audibly if he has to change them round!

The men in white coats must be working overtime!!!! What do you do if a favourite mug gets broken? It is not always possible to replace it.

grey I'm told by husband (who has worked his fair share on building sites) that mugs with straight sides are easier to carry in twos without spilling! So when he brings tea up in the mornings it is always in two straight sided mugs (but fine China, I don't like chunky ones).

GreyDuster I have cutlery that can't be matched. It's French and called Harlequin . Drives the men in the family mad when they are setting the table. I like bone china and was overjoyed to find a shop in Whtby which sells the plain white ones which companies buy to decorate for various tourist venues. They were six for £10. Otherwise fancy china mugs have to have some design of lemons.

H and I also rinses and reuses the same mug throughout the day. H and I both have our own mugs. Makes sense to me as there's no mixing up which mug has sweetener and which hasn't. We have a set of 6 for visitors and they are all red and white but with different designs so easy to tell whose is whose.
I did buy a pretty cup and saucer for afternoon tea but it's in the cupboard and I forget to use it and just use my mug which sits next to the kettle when not in use.

I used to have some mugs which were identical apart from some having the word "tea" on and some having "coffee". Very useful when making more than 1 drink. One day a plumber pointed out that each mug had"tea" on one side and "coffee" on the other. Doh!!!!

DH has to have a mug that's white inside. He drinks black tea and says he can't see how strong it is in a coloured mug. I prefer a china mug -especially my little rose patterned Cath Kidston one that a friend gave me for a birthday some years ago. It's just the right size. I have to have my special fork though, it's actually a spork with a serrated edge designed for bbqs and parties. Again, it's just the right size. Hate huge unwieldy cutlery although I have the obligatory canteen that comes out at Xmas
