Good Morning Everyone,
Its a dark but dry start here in Brackley this morning, hope everyone put there clocks back an hour.
Todays plans housework after breakfast , then relax watching cycling on TV this afternoon .
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning, Mick and other early birds!

Yesterday we delivered Perry to the cattery where he is a regular visitor! It’s been a windy night here in France but is calmer now so we hope it remains so for our crossing at 16.30 (DV). Some Brittany Ferries crossings have been delayed or cancelled in recent days due to the weather.

I hope everyone is safe and warm. Wishing everyone a blessed Sunday.

Good morning Mick and all who follow.
I have struggled to sleep because of the strong wind, it has been a very noisy night.
I have severe pain in my left shoulder and up my neck which is preventing me from doing everyday tasks.
I am guessing it is going to be a duvet day, nothing hurting because family are all away.
Stay safe and warm.

Good morning from a dry Bristol. It was horrible yesterday; cold, wet, windy…. Today we are promised sunshine and only a light breeze. I do dislike wind.
Yesterday went ok. The coffee and chat went well; far more people came than expected in view of the vile weather. My “assistant” is a delightful lady, but always come late so I go extra early to set up.
One person, who does drinks after the Thursday morning service usually has a complaint for me. Previously, it was that I “never put the dishwasher on” - well, no, if it’s not 1/2 full! Yesterday, she complained about milk; there rarely is any for her. So what? I said that I always took my own and knew nothing about who bought milk. I didn’t add that there’s a mini Tesco 2 minutes walk away…
Quiet afternoon doing this and that. I made absolutely sure that I changed all the clocks and stayed up the extra hour, confusing myself completely in the process!
Today, just church, the another quiet afternoon.
Have a peaceful, pleasant Sunday. Carpe diem ✝️🦩🦩🦩

Safe journey, Ash.

Good morning from s somerset, bright and damp is forecast today

It is a stupid hour to be waking up but my bodyclock does not know that the clocks went back. I am a creature of nature so I will try to get to bed a bit later each night, until I have made up the time difference

The mobile phone signal was off for over 24 hours yesterday, it was dreadful, no phone calls, not even if there was a fire and no security codes via text, Internet was on and contact with family was maintained but we are in trouble without the mobile signal. I had some important stuff to do and needed to register with gov.uk onelogin. All to do with changing my bank

I have reluctantly ordered a new, second-hand phone, that can automatically flip to wireless phone if this 5G problem happens again. Not having 5G mobile signal can lead to unavailable access to the emergency services

Anyway, I made my last sweatshirt top, this one is the Southbank sweater with a crewe neck and I added a bottom band. I nearly killed my overlocker making this so will not be using this thick cotton fabric, with elastane, again, it has fleece on the inside and is very cosy. The layering top yesterday and this one came from the same 2m length at just £19 in total.

Today I do need a tidy-up downstairs, won`t take long and my floor needs a wash. I am going to start sewing my winter pyjamas, they are cut out and ready and I will be out on a short walk first, I hope

I have plans for two batches of cooking for ready meals, not today but I will be checking for ingredients for later this week, one is a venison cottage pie and the other is a mushroom and lentil cottage pie. I do fancy having some tasty warming comfort food ready in my freezer

Safe journey, Ash.

Thank you, grandMattie. We shall be in DH’s Puma as I left mine in Torquay so I can relax while he drives. 😉

Good morning from a clear, still Cornwall where sun is forecast all day, bizarre after the last couple of stormy days. Had my flu jab yesterday morning and then enjoyed a walk through exotic windswept gardens to a specialist library. It was glorious with the wind and rain around me. I wore my long Seasalt charity shop £6 raincoat for the first time. What a joy it was to wear as I could stay out for ages, cosy and dry, regardless of the weather. When I bought it in the summer it was on their website for £120. An unheard-of bargain!

Brunch at Wetherspoons then a bus home. Later we had a power cut, very unusual for the town centre. People were piling out of the darkened pubs, chatting away. I lit candles and made a mug of tea via my allotment gaz stove and then the power was on again. My son and family were without power in their village all day yesterday; the bearded dragon in his heated tank had to make do with a hot water bottle.

Today it's church by bus and then I'll take a good look at my patio and the wildwood and see what needs clearing up.

Good Morning from Durham. What a night and the wind is still howling, but it’s too dark to see if there’s any damage. DD1’s flight was delayed last night - it was a difficult take-off and DGS1 was terrified.
I’m meeting up with DD2 and DGS2 later, but we will be staying safely indoors somewhere.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from a very dark and very windy Stockport.
I have been listening for bins etc blowing about but fortunately not heard anything.
Yesterday was a dire weather day, rain and wind all day.
I didn’t go out and in fact I never got dressed I was warm and cozy in pyjamas and fleecy dressing gown.

Karmalady I am always so impressed by your sewing skills, everything looks so professional ,a new item daily would be most people’s dream.

I know we have some very unwell folk on our GM thread and I am thinking of you all and send best wishes for some improvement for you.

Good morning, it’s dry here in south Glos after yesterday’s downpours; it wasn’t particularly windy here, we’ve had far worse storms.
I made tomato soup (I love my soup maker, it only took 20 minutes), chicken in honey and mustard sauce and tidied one kitchen cupboard and the big cutlery clutter that gets dumped here drawer. Very satisfying couple of hours!
I’m getting on well with knitting sock2, while watching Edwardian Farm on Prime, I need to finish it before my next hair appointment early November 😊
I’m very thankful that I didn’t live on a farm then, very hard work, although in many ways not that different from my life 30 years ago… no central heating, draughty rooms and flagstone floors…. I used to go to bed wearing more layers than most people would wear during the day.
I’ll get the washing done today, it should dry as the forecast is windy but no rain. Just need to firmly peg everything on the line!
Best wishes to you all 🌹

Good morning everyone from intermittent cloud/sun somewhere off the southern coast of Italy. Slightly bumpy sea, and am just enjoying looking at it as I sit in bed with my mug of tea.

Had a lovely day yesterday when I met up with Bellasnanna in Malta - she was waiting fore when I got off the boat! We had a lovely few hours chatting and looking at photos. I managed to pass on all your hugs and good wishes, and she sent you all hugs and love back! All too soon it was time to be back on board.

After a delicious dinner I went to the Beatles tribute band second performance and spent a happy hour or so dancing to great Beatles songs!

This morning I may go yo see Ken Bruce, and after dinner tonight he will be hosting his Popmaster quiz
This afternoon I shall do another ballet class, and then formal night tonight

Hope yo

BlueSapphire Sun 25-Oct-26 06:34:26

Sorry, finger slipped!
Hope you are not suffering too much with the storms, and wish you all a pleasant Sunday.

Good morning from South Lanarkshire where it’s still wild and windy, it was blowing a hoolie throughout the night.

Just Mass this morning followed by our monthly Sunday Cafe in the church hall. At the last one we said goodbye to our temporary priest who had been with us for two years, today will be an opportunity for people to chat with our new, permanent Parish Priest.

I’ll cook something this afternoon to take over to DS’s house tomorrow as we are changing our school pick up day.

Other than that it will be more crocheting angels while listening to an audiobook or perhaps watching a film.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning from Wiltshire. My least favourite day of the year with the clocks going back. Ashcombe, I loved your backwards sentence to remind us. Hope your channel crossing is a smooth one.

MD I hope you really will slow down this time. With all that you have going on with you and your DH’s health, I can’t believe how much you have packed in with other activities.

Weirdo that certainly sounds like some kind of karma re: Mr Creep.

Been doing a lot of cooking with meals, and soups for the freezer as my hip replacement is coming up soon. DH went to Cook yesterday and bought a few from there. I do find their portions rather large though and can’t usually finish a meal for 1. If it’s a meal for 2, DH just eats more of it than me.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

glammagran Sun 25-Oct-26 06:45:27

What a lovely photo of you both in Valletta. And sitting at the same table we sat at last year. Hope you are feeling better now Bella and will start posting again soon.

Marzipan22 Sun 25-Oct-26 06:50:29

Lovely photo BlueSapphire, thank you.

karmalady Sun 25-Oct-26 06:52:33

* Usedtobeblonde* thank you, honestly that is the easiest top and should take anyone just about 2 hours to sew on a normal sewing machine, that sort of fabric does not have edges that need finishing. That fabric was from pound fabrics and should cause no trouble on a sewing machine, the overlocker did not like it though

Key to a good finish is the steam iron and I use wood to help, a tailors clapper and a `ham` which is filled with compressed sawdust. There is no magic in what I do

karmalady Sun 25-Oct-26 06:55:39

Oh I do like that photo Bluesapphire

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 8° and very stormy. The wind was bad during the night and there were a couple of bangs which I think were my wheely bins but it's still too wet and windy to check. I was awake with bad pain in my feet so I haven't had a great night's sleep. Ashcombe safe journey home. Karma you are very talented.
Yesterday I pottered about the house and moved a couple of things in the garden. It will be interesting to see if they are where I put them! I made a pot of lentil and vegetable soup and changed the bedding. The delivery of flasks duly arrived. Dd sent photos of the family pumpkin picking in the pouring rain. The boys looked like they were having fun. I watched Strictly last night and went early to bed to read, not sleep.
Today will be very quiet. It's too wild to venture out so I will have to content myself at home. Lots of pottering and I will make a chicken dish for dinner. Have a good day all.

Greyduster Sun 25-Oct-26 06:56:44

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is wet and very very windy. Yesterday was calm by comparison. I forgot to put my clocks back yesterday and have just noticed it’s not even seven o’clock yet!! I wondered why my heating had not kicked in!

I did an early food shop yesterday while it was still dry and calm and spent the rest of the day pottering; wrote an essay in the afternoon for next week’s writer’s group, and DS face timed in the evening (he knows I hate face time🙄 but he likes to “see me”). They will come down next Saturday apparently.

Today, as it is not going to be possible to get out again, I’ll put some braising steak in the slow cooker, do some ironing (yes you heard it here first, folks - Greyduster is using the iron today!) and get my water colour paints out this afternoon.

Have the best day you can, folks!

Grandmabatty Sun 25-Oct-26 06:57:15

BlueSapphire what a lovely photo!

madeleine45 Sun 25-Oct-26 06:57:20

Good morning Michael and all GN's from a dark and windy North Yorkshire. Been awake for a long time, but am really struggling at the moment. I am in a lot of pain and exhausted and feel that I havent got an ounce of energy left. Today is definitely going to be a day of recuperation and expecting nothing of myself, but just do whatever I fell up to. It was a long hard day yesterday, but it was worth it so I shall be paying for it today. Never mind. As far as I know I am not expecting to have to do anything, so the most effort I shall make will be to make a casserole from the beef I got out of the freezer yesterday, and think I still have some cooking apples left so a very cosy warming day of jacket potato and casserole and stewed apple and maybe custard, will help me to revive and definitely comfort food.

I am not fond of any american expressions but I do use this one for today only. So I make sure that I do things the right way by saying to myself "spring forward and fall back". It makes sure that I do it the right way. Many years ago I went early to church as I was singing a solo, and the organist had asked me to come in a bit early so that they could check a few bits with me and for their own little tricky bits. I arrived at church to see one of our elderly ladies looking cold and a bit worried, waiting outside. She wondered where everyone was as she had moved the clock forward instead of back!

Well what a day it was yesterday. The plan was to meet my son and family at Kirby Lonsdale, about 11 to 1130. We would then have time to have a little wander around, and then go to the cafe for some lunch and a catch up etc. I have really missed seeing them for some time, just the way life has been lately, and was not only looking forward to seeing them, I was glad to have the chance to see my son in real life and find out how things were going with his ear etc.

I was having a tough start to the morning, getting more and more exasperated by my slowness , but had planned to leave in plenty of time to allow me to stop somewhere up the dale on the way and make myself some coffee and be glad to just drink in the scenery and enjoy being back where I loved. Being half term I expected quite a bit of traffic on the way and so wanted to get off early as possible. It just took me so long to load things up and check things out and to buy a Yorkshire Post to take with me but I finally got off.

I had looked at three possibly routes , and checked for road works etc and the weather, but we had a clear and not too chilly morning, with the weather expected to get worse later, so was able to choose my favourite way. Off I set, doing quite well, despite a fair bit of traffic and a few caravans about. I thought they would be getting them home and in a safe place, but went past one farm where they had a gathering in quite an open field, think they often go there for the last meeting up, but thought with the forecast I would have given it a miss! Anyway quite blowy and bits and pieces flying about and scudding across the road at times but no major worry. I had decided that I would go through Hawes and then take the road across to Ingleton and on to KL, and that once I had negotiated a very busy Hawes I would get up the first rise and then stop for coffee at one of the various places I knew off. Until then there had been no sign or information but just got through Hawes and set off up the hill when there was a red sign saying road ahead closed and no entrance to Ingleton!! I pulled in to the side and checked things , and the choices were to either go ahead and assume that this sign had not been removed from the day before but then risk being stuck with no way past that didnt involve a big detour, or to turn around and then have to go via Sedberg and then down a little road from their to KL. With no sign of anything coming towards me I decided best to go to Sedberg, so coffee time cancelled and had to set of the other way. I was then in some traffic in quite a narrow roadway, so decided to keep going until there was a real holdup or a decent layby so that I could ring my son and tell him what happened. Kept going, anxious to make up the time and then they rang me to see where I was and I was about 10 miles out by that time, so they were wandering to the market square to meet me. So finally got there , hungry thirsty and weary!

We managed to get into the cafe we usually go to and I apologized for the delay, and then heard someone at a nearby table say they were going to go via Ingleton to Hawes next, so my good deed for the day was to warn them of the closure and they were pleased and could choose to go up via Sedberg.

So finally we were able to get together, catch up on all the news, my grandson looked very smart, and had coped quite well with the delay. He has settled in at his new school - which actually was the one my son went to - and when he went off to look at a shop window while we had coffee, they told me that he has coped well so far, that he has made a good friend , who is quite sensible and they are pleased that they are pals, as 4 of his classmates from the junior school have gone to other schools and between that and getting used to catching the bus and a longer day, he has had quite a big change to get used to, and this other lad has definitely helped in the move, so fingers crossed all will be well. He has started well and is enjoying a lot of the lessons and has taken like a duck to water with spanish, which is good , and will hopefully be something I can help him with in the future.

After all the journey and with the poor weather coming our way, we didnt linger but it was so worth while to actually see them, and mentally worth the effort, and my son now has an appointment next thursday so fingers crossed for better results. I decided that I would go a different way home via Skipton, as it was an A road and if there was going to be any problems with trees blown down or whatever there would be more people about. I drove on steadily and called in for a coffee at a Neros on the way to have a little break but then it was darker and it was quite clear that many cars had their lights set far too high, and they were dazzling. There has been quite a bit about that on news etc and I think that there needs to be a clamp down on adjusting their lights to shine on the road, which is what they are meant to be doing. There were quite a few dozy pedestrians about too, wearing dark clothing, with no high viz, or even a white plastic bag to show them up on unlit roads. However I eventually got nearly home, and decided to call at the chinese and get some prawn curry, partly as a treat, but also because I knew I wasnt in the mood to organise the casserole, or wait for it to cook. So it was a quick grab a curry and then home and stuck some rice on , whilst I emptied stuff from the car, which just got dumped and I got my curry together and had a naan bread to add to it here, I sat in that shattered state, where you actually realize how tired you are and let your body relax , thankful that you have managed the day. I sent them a text to say I was home and they had just arrived home themselves, so all safe and sorted. After I had eaten I just wearily got into my dressing gow and sprawled on the bed, and read a bit of the Post, too tired to do anything. Pleased that I had managed it all but well aware that I had definitely run out of energy, and so here I am now just recovering very slowly.

There is now a little daylight and the wind is still blowing and swirling round the tree. Not a sign of squirrels or pigeons today, no doubt they are attempting to keep dry and warm somewhere. Havent looked out at the front, but didnt hear any major crashing about so fingers crossed things will have survived the night. I hope that everyone is ok and still has electricity etc.

Hope you get to see your cycling Mick, and that bad weather doesnt stop that happening. Ashcombe , hope you have a good crossing and that the winds have died down a bit by this afternoon. grandMattie I would be tempted to be a bit sarky with the complainer and write a list of complaints out with a number beside them so, 1. no milk 2, tea towels not washed etc . then give it to her and say that you thought she could save time and effort by just being able to say grandMattie 4 and 2 today!! You could perhaps also put letter beside the complaint so that A meant Nothing to do with you, B the dishwasher only gets put on when it is full etc!! Remember your G and S "I've got a little list, and they'll none of them be missed"

Oh here comes the rain now, perhaps the wind might drop a bit . Whatever it does I plan to only see it from my window and will definitely be taking things steady through the day. Most of my clock timings are sorted but will check things like the oven clock etc. I am looking forward to DID today as it is Eric Idle, and think there will be both some good music and interesting conversations, so at least I am looking forward to hearing that if nothing else. Hoping that everyone keeps warm and safe and can actually enjoy that feeling of being snug and warm inside and looking out at the chilly scene and be glad you are not out there. Take care of yourselves and a blessed day to you all

Morning from a dry, calmer S Hants, very windy and wet yesterday.
Smashing picture BlueSapphire I do hope Bellas is recovering.
So a quiet day yesterday, minor housework, caught up on TV and spent time online looking for present ideas.
Washing this morning when we have free electricity, I need to fish some casserole beef out of the freezer for the slow cooker. We have chicken tonight.
Safe journey Ashcombe.
