I knew that DH had a strange foible......

Good heavens! A whole new way of looking at cups and mugs has opened up in front of me. I've always taken whatever's closest. I think DH has specific mugs for tea and coffee but as he's generally the one to make it, I leave him to it.

I have a favourite teaspoon too. Definitely have daytime and evening mugs. Daytime ones are a bit chunkier than evening mugs because we're usually sitting down and staying in one place in the evening, so there's less chance of a nicer mug getting broken.

I hate anything other than China mugs and they have to be wide. I have a collection of 5 and am happy to use any of them at anytime. DH has coffee in narrow China mugs. We have a set of china ones that are all different but part of the same range for when we have visitors.

I get quite stressed if someone uses the spoon from the tea jar to stir their tea and have to hunt it down. It's usually my favourite son in law, who has helpfully made a pot of tea for everyone.

As I said, I have no foibles!

Me neither, kittylester, not about mugs or cups anyway. Now if we were talking about which foot has to land on the floor after coming down a flight of steps.....

DH often uses the same mug all day which I find quite disgusting. When we make tea or coffee my cup is always on the right and his on the left beside the kettle. DH moves the spoon from side to side whereas I stir.

My favourite mug was a present from my nephew. It's a cream-coloured mug with 'giddy aunt' in red letters on the side.

Gives me something to live up to!

My OH has a horribly heavy pottery Quickbrew mug with an awful motif on it he tends to use it for cocoa. It is revolting but I have not yet managed to stage a suitably convincing accident with it.
I have smuggled some of his mugs out to charity shops or the bin.

I like wide bone china mugs, the narrow ones feel as if you are going to bang your nose on them. I am lucky to live within a few miles away from the Churchill China outlet shop in the Potteries. Lovely bone china mugs.

DH likes the thick chunky ones, I have to have the bone china ones. Sorted.

nelliem, aha! another person who doesn't like nose bangers! It's the same with wine glasses. I like inverted cone shaped ones that are widest at the top.

I have a favourite teaspoon too, for eating yoghurts or other such desserts. I also have a favourite tray. The two trays are almost identical, just with slightly different scenes painted on them, so I haven't admitted to DH that one of them is my favourite because he'd think (quite rightly) that I'm bonkers. So I have to seethe silently if he uses 'my' tray

Well, I have to say I have my favourite mugs too ;) any will do as long as they are bone china and not earthenware- honestly, it does make a difference to the taste
Yes, it does granjura; I have to have tea in a bone china mug or cup but I don't mind coffee in an earthenware mug, preferably one of the Denby ones - or it can be a china one!.

But not any old mug. DH likes any old mug as long as it's a large one.

Oh for goodness sake-they're either bone china or earthenware, not pottery! And Wedgwood doesn't have an 'e' in the middle.

I've loved Denby since I first married, I still use original items given to me in the 70s. I will only drink tea from a Denby cup and saucer, my daughter keeps one at her house just for me. I remember keeping a special bone china cup and saucer for my mum as she thought Denby too clunky. Tea has to be made in a teapot too, can't stand tea bags in a cup or a mug.

I'll drink coffee out of anything!

Newquay I an not a potteries person as such but I have lived here about for 29yrs. I have now reached the point where I look at the bottom of cafe china to see if it was made in the Potteries.

I have a penchant for Masons ironstone Mandalay.

I love china too nelliemoser and have to restrain myself from looking at the undersides of teacups when at others's houses. Luckily most of my friends know about my penchant for china.
Is much stuff still made at the potteries? I was recently horrified to find that a replacement Spode veg dish was made in China and was now very nasty thick quality.

I can agree with favourite China cups or mugs.......must be done.......we have a shelf each of favourite cups and mugs.......that's maybe going a bit far though ? .
Also I won't use DH's and he's not allowed to use mine.
When the DD's visit they all use mine !

We have a motley collection and DH and I will drink out of anything (except a mug with a Lowry print on that DH avoids as' its gloomy'!I have three small mugsthat I insist DH uses if I want only a small cup of tea (usually because I'm going out and I'm in a hurry)
We often buy mugs as souvenirs of visits to exhibitions or museums .It's a nice reminder ,though I sometimes wonder how the artist concerned would feel about having a master work consigned to a mug

At home has to be china for tea and " long"coffee , hate earthenware mugs - but use small French cups (tend to be earthenware) when drinking expresso coffee.
As we live in France all the local cafes serve expresso coffee in this type of cup.

Only drink green tea - smaller china mug in morning, larger one in the afternoon and yes, I prefer two particular mugs and husband has his preference!

Oh, it's so nice to hear that I'm not the only crazy one! In fact, it sounds as though none of us are crazy - we just have strong preferences.

I love my bone china mugs, and have several 'favourites' depending on the mood I'm in.
I also have the 'posh' china - a precious set left by my dear late mum, who was always very particular about having the table set properly. That comes out on very special occasions only, although I sometimes have tea in one of the beautiful cups just for a treat.

Teapots are my obsession - I have twenty-six, and I use them all (not all at once!)
