These things make me happy

Sitting on the garden swing seat with my eyes shut listening to the evening birdsong.

Today it's hearing our wee granddaughter singing like a linty upstairs in her bed, on her way to dreamland ... it's been a loooong day of entertaining her!
Mummy will pick her up in the morning but wants a long lie first??!!

Apart from the grandchildren,a nice walk in the sunshine with a latte at the end of it.

All the family together. A day out with DH and the dogs (had a lovely one today). A new book I wanted. Finishing a quilt and getting the material for a new one. Seeing the plants I put in coming up in the garden.

Sitting in the garden this evening with the sound of bell ringing practice from the church in the village down the road carried to us on the breeze;
Beating my son at online scrabble;
Sunday lunch with our GS and his mum and dad;
A fishing day at Ladybower - wonderful scenery, wonderful fish!

A well made cappucino and peace and quiet on my own.

(Having already done my chores and the days exercise!!).

- Having a shower and climbing into a bed with freshly changed cotton bedding, smelling of outdoors.
- Picking raspberries from my garden in the evening sunshine.
- Wrapping my one year old granddaughter in a big fluffy towel as she is lifted from the bath, all warm and damp and smelling heavenly.
- Having several lengths of gorgeous fabric waiting to be made up into dresses for said granddaughter, or quilts, tote bags, etc. Oh the smell of new cotton fabric!!

- the family in the same place at the same time
- health
- knowing that my family are happy and well

When I started this thread I really meant things that make us happy, as opposed to our family members, but I should have said that.

Now thats made me think! apart from family and my cat it would have to be the large picture of a blubell wood I have on my wall as it evokes wonderful memories of my late husband and the walks we made in a bluebell wood.

Oh eer that seems an easy question. When I really though about it I realised that generally it's other people's happiness that made me happy. I'm not sure that's emotionally healthy, being reliant on other people so much. It's probably why I and lots of us get hurt by our families (I'm overthinking this I know.) After lots of thought here are what makes me happy that doesn't include any other person.
A beautiful view
Sound of the sea
A stroll at the seaside/ countryside
Fish-n-chips
Cup of tea and slice of cake
A warm breeze
A good read

I love a new note book too and a pen that is easy to write with.
Clean sheets.
New kitchen equipment.

Clean cotton sheets

the light and dark shadows cast by trees in the sunlight
children playing

Watching my dogs running round a field with such joy.

Funny stories from my children & grandchildren
Going out to lunch with friends, it's so good to be retired

Watching the tennis (go Andy...!) with a large mug of frothy coffee

Waking up early on Saturday morning and not going to work...
Taking my granddaughters to the cinema - I love kids movies

A good yoga class
Laughing and chatting with friends
The sight of the sun on the sea
An hour to myself
The rare occasions when I've managed to do most of the housework and the place looks clean and tidy

Painting and drawing.
The arrival of spring.
A bunch of flowers.
Getting to the end of a work order.
Martini rosso with lots of cherries!

A beautiful walk on Dartmoor through mossy, ferny woods, ending up at a bronze age settlement - so peaceful, and atmospheric the only sounds were sky larks and a babbling brook

What made me happy this week: email from my stepson telling me he had dreamed about his dad and woken up smiling. His dad, my husband of 40 years, died last autumn so it's great to think of him and know that others do too. My little GD chatters to him at times and talks about him a lot. She's only 3 and I'm so glad she still remembers him so well.

My new man - the thought of his smile, and the sudden rush of poetry being in love releases I'd forgotten that.

The cry of a buzzard, high above me

Finding a prehistoric hide-scraper, and knowing that I'm the first person to touch it for at least 2000 years.

Being alone in a field, no houses in sight; enveloped in the sights and sounds of nature, and the peace that brings.

Preferably all at the same time
Only then can I enjoy
A new book with a glass of wine in the sunshine of my pretty garden (after a long bath and with the prospect of dinner already prepared and clean sheets )
