Breaking some rules

Sorry, mollie, I'm afraid I'm exactly like you, and my DD is even worse than me! No chance of either of us jumping up and down on the rule book . Hope you manage it!

I am a firm believer that rules made by somebody else either have to be worked to my advantage or b******d up. Obviously there are many which just have to be obeyed but many are petty. I have done it today at the Toyota garage which have at long last got 2 recalls fixed. I wanted a courtesy car which they said I could have but would have to pay £10 insurance for. I refused (after all it was for a recall not something I had instigated) and so they said they would take me home. So that £10 which I wouldn't pay cost the garage: man + car + petrol for 12 miles to take me home and then 2 men + car + petrol for 12 miles to return the car. Each journey took about 1/2 hour. Their rules but worked to my advantage as I had a day at home and didn't have to go back into town to collect the car.
Give being a bit of a rebel a go mollie !

If I broke rules but impinged on someone else's wellbeing, or freedom, I don't think I'd feel very happy about it.

Sometimes I do wonder why we have rules for some things, though. For example, one of my boys had been serving at Midnight Mass and got dressed in his outdoor clothes, and came back in Church to find something, and didn't take his hat off. He got told off, but I thought - why do men have to take their hats off when they go indoors? Women don't! That is a centuries-old rule that it wouldn't kill anyone to break. There are loads more examples.

And they vary from country to country and region to region. So one man's meat is another man's poison.

When I was little, a man was considered effeminate if he kept his change in a purse. I bet loads of women were continually mending their men's pockets. That rule (or perhaps I should call it an attitude) seems to have changed now. And look - no harm done!

That's it! I want to be a rebel!! Not sure how but I'll give it some thought... Always on time, parked within the box, things neat and tidy, bins out on time, Windows cleaned etc. All daft stuff, I want to throw caution to the wind and do something outrageous or dramatic or exciting or...???

Ignore me, I'm having one of those days...

Am a bit naughty in 'one way' car parks

I always conform to the rules especially when driving but recently I parked on some double yellow lines as I was on an emergency call out as a first responder. As I unloaded my bags of equipment a man pointed out I had parked on double yellow lines. Yes thank you I said but I am on my way to a cardiac arrest and I am not blocking anyone's way. I still fell a pang of guilt whenever I drive past that spot.

I was always one who followed the rules and careful to please my parents telling myself one day when they are gone I will do as I please! Like stay out all night or go to a bar! Sad thing they died when I was almost 50. Now I have no desire to " misbehave" I have gotten my share of speeding tickets but that's no fun and your insurance just increases.

Mollie have a pink streak put in your hair? a tattoo? Sit down when everyone else stands to sing a hymn in church? If told ' have a nice day' say No, loudly.

Tempting Roses, tempting. I think I've left it too late really. I like the idea of being a bit flighty, like one of those St Trinian's girls, running a poker school behind the bike sheds and fleecing the chaps for a change! Or riding a motorbike. Or staying out all night and crawling in at breakfast time...I didn't do any of that in my youth! Too worried about my image! And now, who cares? Lol!

I've been done for speeding three times, but don't recommend it.

The nearest I've got is a parking ticket (just one) and that was by mistake, not deliberate...leaves covered the yellow line. I'm not much of a maverick, am I...

I always go the wrong way in the underground car park. But I do make sure no ones about. It irritates the socks off DH

Next time you shop in a supermarket, mollie, put the divider (those things you use to divide your stuff from that of the person behind you at the checkout) lengthwise on its side instead of across the conveyor belt and right way up. It's very amusing to watch people's reactions, especially if you're deliberate about it

? Are there rules about earrings?

There are unwritten rules as to which ear you wear it in. But that may not be what you meant, only one of my friends has an earring, so for me it is breaking the rules.

I see. Now you mention it, I was vaguely aware of something about an earring in the left earlobe of a man was a sign he is gay. One of our neighbours has one earring. I couldn't for the life of me tell you which ear it's in and I've known him ten years!

Bit like not being able to say if someone wears glasses.
