online supermarket shopping

I love my online grocery shopping and would never go back to dragging my sorry self round the shops - I do walk to town regularly still for the exercise, but it tends to be just for greetings cards or present shopping, or trawling round the charity shops for yet more toys for when the grandkids come visiting. I've used Sainsburys, Tesco, Morrison's, Ocado and Asda, and just go with whoever of the first four's given me the best money off voucher. I only used Asda the once and they arrived over two hours late, after eight phone calls asking me to guide them to me as they orbited our house in ever-increasing circles. Apparently not only didn't they have satnav, they didn't have a map (or a clue). Not impressed! As someone said, Tesco do substitute a fair bit, but I've had some good deals when the substitution's worth more than they charge. Sainsbury once delivered a leg of lamb to use by that day and when I complained they apologised and said I could keep it for free. I think of the lot I prefer Morrison's - good prices and the fresh stuff was very high quality - but they don't tend to do money off vouchers after the first shop.

I must ask DD1 which store it was that sent her a Sweet Honey hair dye when she wanted something to put on her toast.

I've used Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda. All very good and they have all offered to bring my shopping in. I have refused substituted items and have contacted customer services when I realised a substitute was not the better value they claim- got it free. I switch sometimes because if you don't order you are often sent vouchers- £6 off a £60 order.

Was staying with daughter who was out when an expected delivery arrived. It was only when the van had gone & I was unpacking everything that I realised it must be the wrong order as things were there that she would never order. Rang & the driver came back 20 minutes later and said the whole (quite large) order would be binned as it had been in a house. The rightful address was nearby and we offered to take it there but he said no. I'm glad to know that my shopping won't have been doing the rounds but it seemed to be such a waste.

I dallied with the idea of online shopping, filled a first list in with Tesco, but then couldn't get a delivery time to suit me at a weekend. We go shopping early doors, or after 6:30 p.m. (when lots of discounts are to be found) and never have to queue. Personally, I like to see what's what at the time, keep an eye on sell-by dates myself and take advantage of unexpected bargains. DH much prefers to go without me and says he always spends less as he sticks rigidly to a list. True! . I do like visiting the supermarket and often meet someone I know so as long as I have strength and mobility I will stick with doing it myself - or waving DH off with the list.

Being a pair of larks, we go early too - usually for 6.30am. The on-line order pickers are out in force at that time, with their bulky carts often blocking the aisles. Seeing how they go about picking, especially the fruit and veg, makes me realise that I don't want them doing my shopping. So as long as I am able, I shall do the same as Imperfect27.

I can't understand why the on-line orders can't be made up behind the scenes from the stock in the giant store behind the main shopping area. It would make access a bit easier for personal shoppers.

Used Tesco regularly when I worked. No problems at all. Dip in and out now, we have to park a distance from the from door so tend to use a delivery for heavy things and when non stop rain is forecast. Just about to try Sainsbury as an excellent discount available for first shop. Love the Waitrose system and very helpful drivers, but sadly the budget doesn't. It does have a place and as long as you can be patient with the first order process it is fairly speedy after that.

Maggiemaybe I would put money on it that it was Sainsburys.

Thanks to Elegran and Crystal for telling me about both Waitrose and Iceland doing a buy in store and then deliver service.

It's good to know as I don't always have use of a car, but am happy to use the bus, so I could do a shop and not have to worry about dragging it back home.

Do Waitrose do it from every store because if so they have kept very quiet about this service, certainly where I live.

I used Asda when I came out of hospital last year and couldn't drive, they were super. I just longed to look around the shop in person so once I got back driving again I went back to shopping in person but I would use the home service again if I was unable to use my car for any reason.
