Soop's kitchen extension

Alea many questions are very easy and there is a lot of repetition. It is the boring stuff such as NI number etc which takes up time and a few pages. Make the coffee, gird the loins and just do it- my method! We went out for lunch afterwards as we were exhausted mentally and we had not filled in a question- this was me giving pointers re what should be put on the form.

I hope that Grace has caught up with the much needed sleep. She looks a gorgeous young lady. Tara is out somewhere enjoying the sunshine.

soop do you realise that we will be on the move again soon? Is the new kitchen ready?

Sorry all for the lack of yesterday, had to wait for tesco to deliver .

We were in work at the crack of dawn this morning (lovely sunshine then which is disappearing rapidly), as OH had forgotten to put out the bin and the collection has been getting earlier and earlier.

pompa sorry your car is broken, but you don't want to go out over Easter it is far too busy.

Got a bit confused with pompa talking about RAC and then Alea talking about AA (what had health got to do with cars!). Just put it down to the early morning start.

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. Such a lot of activity since I was last here to keep a friendly eye on you.

What did I say about the funeral of our pal? I said that the kirk would be full to the grim...and so it was...plus two hundred people standing outside because there was no space left. The road through the village had parked cars nose-to-tail. There was a piper. My eyes were misty at that point. We are atheist, and when we first located to the village some twelve years ago, our pal, who was a long-standing member of the kirk befriended us. She often said...there are many good non-believers and some far from good so-called believers...

Just before our pal's last birthday (she was eighty) her first great grandchild was still-born. Her family meant the world to her. Throughout the time we've known her, that event was the only one to crush her spirit. She seemed to gradually "fade away"...mind you, whilst she was alive, she was tremendously active and as we all knew, oft-times bossy with it. She had instructed the Minister "not to make a fuss" twice under-lined. This provoked a chuckle.

Charleyg You're right. We opened this extension about six weeks ago. Doesn't time fly when you're enjoying yourself.

Sorry to hear that your car is misbehaving, pompa. I wouldn't mind betting that you and Mrs pompa may be pushing a trolley-thing of plants around the garden centre over the weekend.

NanaandGrampy That sore throat is a bummer. So many folk have been struck down with the bug. All that you can do is keep warm, drink as much fluid as you're able (through a straw) and relax. I doubt whether you will have fully recovered for the family gathering. Trouble is, the bug is contagious.

The morning was bright and sunny. There was however, a chilly wind. Since lunchtime the sky has clouded over. I was glad to walk into our cosy home after we'd visited the Campbeltown care home. Children of some of the carers had visited the residents yesterday. The children made Easter bonnets and gave out chocolate treats.

NO more HEAVY gardening. I shall photograph the areas that have been cleared and you will see the newly exposed rocks. I think that I'm best pleased with the transformation...not because we intend planting on them, but we shall leave the ground free for wild flowers to grow.

Whatever makes you happy. For we two it will be peace and quiet and the company of a big, black cat.

Happy Easter one and all! I`ve just returned from a visit to youngest son`s house, to make the acquaintance of their new rescue dog. This is the 3rd one they`ve tried out in the last few months, so hopefully this one will be staying. Her name is Ebony, so you can guess what colour she is, and is supposedly part Labrador.
Every time I go in and out of the house I feel scared that I`m going to trip over the doorstep, ever since I did just that a week ago today. I went headlong into the lobby, and since I can`t get up if I fall, I dragged myself through into here, and had to phone eldest son to come and get me up! I had some interesting bruises, still in evidence. I feel like an old cronk!!

numberplease hopefully that dog will settle down. It must be disconcerting for the dogs going back to the rescue centre. You said she is part Labrador but what else?

You are like me, once on the floor it is a nightmare to get up. I have nobody to help me so I do the best I can but rule no.1 is not to fall.

Charleygirl, I used to be able to pull myself up by grabbing the settee, but can`t even manage that now. It`s a great state of affairs really, 3 of us live here, and not one of us can get up when we fall, or help up the fallen. Son and DIL had to drive about 2 miles to pick me up. Now I`m scared every time I go outside, but can`t spend my life stuck inside, can I?

Sorry, don`t know the rest of the dog`s ancestry, she doesn`t really look Labrador-ish to me, but that`s what they were told. Here`s a pic of her, she`s 8 months old.

numberplease that dog is going to need a lot of exercising, I hope that whoever chose her is up for it. There maybe some Labrador in her but I think that she is Heinz 57 varieties with maybe a touch of Doberman in the head. I cannot guess what else without seeing her in the flesh. She will grow more I hate to say! She looks gorgeous and knows the comfortable spots in the house already.

I am sorry to hear you lack so much confidence on your feet.
Are you doing the obvious things - secure shoes, a stick when necessary, no unnecessary rugs and bits n bobs to trip you up?
A friend's husband had a major stroke some years back which thankfully he survived and is regaining his balance and mobility. He has weekly sessions with a physiotherapist to teach him how to get down on the floor and get up again, that was especially important as he is a heavy man and his wife is a petite 5' O.
Is this worth following up for you?
Do take care, a fall at our age probably dents our confidence more than our bones, but do work at it!

We don`t have rugs Alea, but it was the back doorstep that I tripped over, and that I`m now nervous about, but I`ll just have to be more careful in future.
Oh, by the way, the dog is a young lady!
Charleygirl, there won`t be any problems exercising her, they had a very energetic dog until he fell ill a few months ago and had to be put to sleep. She wouldn`t come near me for about half an hour, kept barking at me, then my son thought that she might have taken offence at my walking stick when I arrived, so he put it over the other side of the room, and soon after she came to me, and then we played tug of war with a rubber bone, so maybe it was the stick, perhaps she`d been abused in the past.

Oh I so beg her pardon, number! but either way she is gorgeous. We had a black lab when the girls were little and apart from her early destructive years (toys, chair legs, shoes, door frames) she was the sweetest dog imaginable. She lived until she was 16 and so much one of the family.
Do you wear Varifocals? Since getting them - years ago- I feel insecure on stairs because of course the bottom part of the lenses is designed for reading so I have to put my head right down in order to see the edges of the stairs,

I also had to get rid of my large rug downstairs after I fell flat on my face last year and broke a bone. I did ask a physio to show me how to get up off the floor but she could not do it. I have no idea why because it cannot be rocket science. I cannot kneel which does not help. Can I pass on this old age thing to somebody else? Any takers?

I have a lot more space since getting rid of my sofa but another will replace it in a couple of weeks. Perhaps I should move to a field?

Please keep your fingers crossed, I am about to visit a local charity shop to see if they will take my 2 large armchairs either for sale or a family. If the shop does not want them, I do not know what to do with them.

Will the council take them away for an extortionate a small fee charleygirl? It saddens me that there are people in need but we can't do anything because of Elfin Safety.

pompa how is your weekend shaping up now? Are you still without wheels?

number The latest rescue girl is indeed very beautiful. Ebony is the perfect name for her. I do hope that she may remain with the family.

As for tripping over the step, you could have done yourself some serious damage. A broken limb would take a long time to heal. Falling anywhere (at our age) is unnerving. Once on the floor, I need something to hang on to in order to get up again. If there isn't something close by, I have to roll towards a likely heaving-up spot. The recent garden clearing was tricky. Brambles catch on to clothing, and partly exposed tree roots present a danger, as do slippery, mossy surfaces. I toppled on several occasions. Thankfully landed reasonably softly. Dare not tell MacSporran because he would have banned me from further clearance.

I would like to think that your chairs could be recycled. Alea is right. Elfin Safety rules may mean that the council will need to be contacted.

Thanks crafting could just do with one of those. Built a rock garden this morning. At the moment it is just rocks. This part of Scotland is well known for large stones and these are the ones that have come out of the garden over the years. I have put them on a bit of ground I can't dig because of tree roots and I think that if I fill the spaces up between the rocks with peat I can plant some heathers. I have ignored this bit of the garden for too long.

The charity shop gave me a number and I will be allocated a slot so I think that my problem has been solved, thanks. I have to ring on Tuesday. I am beyond caring if I end up sitting on a plastic garden chair to watch TV.

The manager asked if I could bring my 2 armchairs to the shop. If I had been a young strapping lad there was half a chance that I may have a large van. Instead I shuffled in using my stick. I was really good and was not rude. I am sure that I could easily wheel both of the chairs the 3 miles or two large armchairs naturally would fit into the boot of my Skoda. I did not tell her that the chairs would not fit through the shop entrance as they are wide.

I fancied a chicken curry for tomorrow and Monday so off to Waitrose to buy the ingredients. It is duck leg with sauce etc tonight.

Please do not forget that the clocks go forward tonight so you will lose an hour's beauty sleep.

My chairs will be sold at the hospice charity shop- they are in very good condition and have the coveted fire retardant label. They are too big for this small house and I need to elevate my left leg so that takes up more space as I use a wicker basket and pop 3 pillows on top.

One of my new armchairs has a leg elevator as does the sofa for some reason. There will be less for me to trip over.

My new cleaner thought that if I did not like my (expensive) suite I could photograph it and pop it on ebay!!!!! I do not think so.

It is cold, miserable, drizzly and horrid. I am about to switch on the heating for an hour or so. I am also eating my way through freezer and cupboards so I must see what is for lunch.

Please find me a corner to be miserable in where I won't bother anyone but can listen to all your chat.
It takes a lot for me to feel sorry for myself but I have been in pain for so long I can't feel any joy at all.If it is sciatica I know it is a matter of time but it is seeming a very long time.
I don't like gardening but reading about you all getting stuck in makes me wish I could join you and at least try to like it.
H ,while realising I have a problem can't relate to the fact that I can't do jobs and he still waits for me to do them and watches me hobble about. He actually said"you have too much to do".
I've said it now but don't feel any better for it. I'm a real misery guts aren't I.
