Alea I am delighted to hear that DH is going to have a shower get dressed etc. It is a pity that you have had to cancel your day trip out. How would Grace cope without you, never mind your DH!

I am having more plastering work done this Friday. I have organised a fellow to switch off the gas hob one day before the new units etc are fitted
and switch it on 2 days later in 3 weeks time, £50 each trip!!! I doubt if it will take 4 minutes each visit. I was not aware that I was made of money!

After the painting has been done, I will be lying on a bed in a darkened room for a long time I think.

Good point Charleygirl Grace would have been most disgruntled without a lampshade-free walkie. Every cloud etc etc etc

soop I do not know if GNHQ read our words of wisdom- mainly because they do not have any trouble because we are never bitching or fighting. No doubt time will tell.

Charleygirl I'll be following suit in the next few months, what started as tarting up the utility room (because DH's abouttodoitis has never produced results) is morphing into new kitchen units, then the living room (which I was planning to start with!) by which time I suspect the stairs and landing and bedrooms might look shabby...

I'm only at the 'Brick dust everywhere' stage at the moments ?

I really need my lounge/dining room painted which of course also means the staircase because I have a horrid open plan staircase in the lounge. That takes me up to the bedrooms and I cannot possibly have the corridor painted without painting the 3 bedrooms also. Thank goodness the bathroom is fully tiled. Then of course there is the woodwork and so it goes on.

I could not cope with the lounge etc. If somebody would come and remove the multitude of books and curtains, + move the furniture, maybe. I have to get as much as possible done because I hope to have my left knee replaced around August if I can extract myself from my bed in a darkened room.

The organising is more than enough for me.

Can I be a bit Monty Pythonish (no such word) here and cap you all with your decorating woes. I need my wooden floor sanded - can you imagine the dust. It seems that it wasn't properly sealed in the first place and in the areas of worse wear polish no longer covers the bare patches. I think I might prefer to move as it going to be horrendous. Will have to do right through in one weekend as we will have to hire the sanding machine. So I will take your plastering charliegirl and loopylou's brick dust and raise you cupboards full of sanding dust.

Tizliz I agree that is horrendous- the noise + the dust and I would be leaving the country.

Your remaining Belgian Shepherds could not be easily housed if you decided to spend a couple of nights in a B&B.

Definitely not something to look forward to or to be a neighbour!

I'm sure you know already Tizliz but make sure you go over all the floor carefully to find any bits that are sticking up otherwise you will rip the sanding strip to bits. We sanded floors years ago and I still remember it with horror! I think several of these might be a good idea - not sure whether before or after is best!

Tizliz I think, to be honest, sanding floors is in the same category as building your own house. I've never met anyone who when you ask them 'Would you do it again?' have answered 'Yes'

Phew! What a day.

We have heard that our lovely friend won't be coming home. The house is to be sold. It's all so sad. We've been invited to rescue a few of his precious plants. Another friend and I will be giving the house a good polish and the garden needs tidying in advance of an agent appearing on the scene.

I'm really sorry to have mucked you lot around. Thank you GNHQ for sorting out the muddle we got ourselves into.

DH is up, dressed and feeling much more human I am glad to say.
And Grace is very relaxed this afternoon, not the most elegant position, but hound owners will recognise it!

Alea Grace looks "laid back" and very happy to remain so. I'm pleased that your husband is improving. I asked GNHQ to sort us out...which they have. Thank you.
