I retire on Friday and I'm soooooo excited!!!
I have worked as a Director's Secretary for 7 years passed my age of retirement as I was terrified at the thought of it. I live alone and have no private pensions, so money will be tight but on my birthday this year, I realised that nothing is going to change no matter how long I work and I decided to hand my notice in and I've looked forward to it ever since. It was just like a switch being flicked in my head.
I know I won't have much money (so no holidays) but I'm really looking forward to:
- gardening when I want (weather permitting)
- not trying to fit all the jobs into a weekend
- spending more time on Gransnet and probably joining the book club
- having more time to read
- walking every day
- starting a regular fitness regime
- going to the cinema during the day
- having days out during the week
- being able to see my family more often
- de-cluttering by selling on Ebay
- maybe doing some voluteer work
- getting back into family history research
(hope this doesn't sound too boring)
I think I have prepared quite well whilst I am earning. New winter mack, couple of cashmere jumpers from Ebay, stocks of shampoo, conditioner etc., but I am a bit apprehensive about eventually jumping off that cliff.
A friend has advised me not to do anything for the first 6 months and I think that's sensible but do any members of GN have any advice for the first few months of retirement?
