It seems so trivial in this time of concern for others but I re discovered something wonderful yesterday- Chocolate Digestives! I hadn't had one for years but unexpected visitors meant had to buy emergency biscuits from a limited selection. When I actually bit into one.........................Bliss!
Anything else I should try?

You mean there are people who slice malt loaf?

whenim64 Sat 05-Sept-15 17:37:51

Ready sliced malt loaf still sticks together. I slice it lengthways - saves a lot of faffing about. grin

Peanut brittle. Not easy on the teeth though!

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Sept-15 18:49:15

No! Don't try peanut brittle! Asking for trouble. I sometimes look longingly at nougat, but I daren't. Actually, nougat never quite lived up to expectations. It always looks so pretty...

Now, Coconut Ice! Yum!!!

DH loves custard tarts. Can't see it myself. Now treacle!!!

Marmight Sat 05-Sept-15 19:00:11

Borders dark chocolate ginger biscuits are my downfall - delish

Cherrytree59 Sat 05-Sept-15 19:37:59

As a treat I bought my GDS chocolate mallows, then proceeded to show him how to bite the chocolate off leaving the mallow hole! not sure DD will approve. gingers and fig rolls keep finding their way into my shopping basket grin

Cherrytree59 Sat 05-Sept-15 19:38:56

sorry mean DGS

Marmight-they're def my kind of biscuit! Tesco basic custard creams are also very tasty along with their Oaties.

Today I rediscovered an old favourite - steak and kidney pudding! It was absolutely delicious and I only made it because I had planned to do a pie but found I'd run out of the baking margarine I always use. Then I remembered I had some suet. A happy accident - we all tucked in and thoroughly enjoyed it smile

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 06-Sept-15 22:51:21

I stood in Waityrose this afternoon with a (small) packet of own brand custard creams in my hand. But DD saw and said, "Put them down!", and I reacted just like Pavolv's dogs. sad When did she turn into the grownup? confused hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 06-Sept-15 22:52:57

I love those steak pies in a flat tin! Frey Bentos. Full of fat but so delicious. Haven't had one for ages!

rosesarered Sun 06-Sept-15 23:09:30

Why deprive yourself Jingl, only a few biccies.

Indinana Mon 07-Sept-15 07:32:03

Oh yes, Fray Bentos pies! I'd forgotten all about them. Used to have them years ago. Very tasty they were.

feetlebaum Mon 07-Sept-15 07:55:58

Last Fray Bentos pie I had turned out to be impossible to open with any tool I had to hand...

I didn't eat cabbage for years, but recently tried one of the crisp pointy ones - delicious (and healthy)!

Indinana Mon 07-Sept-15 08:25:27

Try cabbage sliced thinly with a small amount of onion, then stir fried in a little olive oil with half a dozen crushed junipers. Best way to eat cabbage!

Elegran Mon 07-Sept-15 08:43:21

Cabbage sliced and microwaved for a few minutes with butter and grated nutmeg is pretty good too.

Indinana Mon 07-Sept-15 10:00:42

Sounds good Elegran.

And BTW, by half a dozen crushed junipers I meant juniper berries, not the actual plants grin

Cornish ice cream - clotted cream with honeycomb.

A bit of toast with my Lurpak.

Aurelia Mon 07-Sept-15 11:27:33

Tesco sells custard cream spread smile

Gold top milk is an occasional treat here, we always had it at home when I was a child. Lovely on cornflakes or in iced coffee!

rosesarered Mon 07-Sept-15 12:50:59

gold top milk! yum.

baubles Mon 07-Sept-15 15:03:00

A bit of toast with my Lurpak grin

That's how I like mine too.

Coolgran65 Mon 07-Sept-15 18:06:20

When I was a child a Fray Bentos pie was cut into 4 and shared.
Also, did anyone ever get the pastry lid to cook the whole way through. ?

Coolgran65 Mon 07-Sept-15 18:10:20

pp mentioned pointy crispy cabbage.
I cooked four pointy cabbage yesterday. Two for £1 in Asda.
One served two portions.
Cut up the centre, took out the core. All 8 'halves' fitted into my steamer... otherwise known as the colander over the spud saucepan with the frying pan lid on top. When cooked laid all 8 portions (still intact) into an onlong dish, drizzled butter over and then laid a rasher of bacon on each. Into the oven until the bacon was cooked, bacon fat and butter through the cabbage. Yummm.... even the children ate their cabbage.
