I know this isn't a rediscovery as such but I haven't had it since the beginning of Spring. Today we had second day stew and dumplings. Stew is lovely on day one but second day stew is even better.

Thank you all for the cabbage ideas. I have just microwaved some with butter and a few thin rashers of pancetta. It tasted wonderful!

Oh! Is the pastry of a Fray Bentos tinned pie supposed to be cooked through?! ()

DH and I have occasionally gone halves on one.

I cooked four pointy cabbage yesterday. Two for £1 in Asda.
One served two portions.
Cut up the centre, took out the core. All 8 'halves' fitted into my steamer... otherwise known as the colander over the spud saucepan with the frying pan lid on top.When cooked laid all 8 portions (still intact) into an onlong dish, drizzled butter over and then laid a rasher of bacon on each. Into the oven until the bacon was cooked, bacon fat and butter through the cabbage. Yummm.... even the children ate their cabbage.

When I was a child a Fray Bentos pie was cut into 4 and shared.
Also, did anyone ever get the pastry lid to cook the whole way through. ?

Tesco sells custard cream spread

Gold top milk is an occasional treat here, we always had it at home when I was a child. Lovely on cornflakes or in iced coffee!

Cabbage sliced and microwaved for a few minutes with butter and grated nutmeg is pretty good too.

Try cabbage sliced thinly with a small amount of onion, then stir fried in a little olive oil with half a dozen crushed junipers. Best way to eat cabbage!

I didn't eat cabbage for years, but recently tried one of the crisp pointy ones - delicious (and healthy)!

Last Fray Bentos pie I had turned out to be impossible to open with any tool I had to hand...

Oh yes, Fray Bentos pies! I'd forgotten all about them. Used to have them years ago. Very tasty they were.

I love those steak pies in a flat tin! Frey Bentos. Full of fat but so delicious. Haven't had one for ages!

I stood in Waityrose this afternoon with a (small) packet of own brand custard creams in my hand. But DD saw and said, "Put them down!", and I reacted just like Pavolv's dogs. When did she turn into the grownup?

Today I rediscovered an old favourite - steak and kidney pudding! It was absolutely delicious and I only made it because I had planned to do a pie but found I'd run out of the baking margarine I always use. Then I remembered I had some suet. A happy accident - we all tucked in and thoroughly enjoyed it

Marmight-they're def my kind of biscuit! Tesco basic custard creams are also very tasty along with their Oaties.

As a treat I bought my GDS chocolate mallows, then proceeded to show him how to bite the chocolate off leaving the mallow hole! not sure DD will approve. gingers and fig rolls keep finding their way into my shopping basket
