Is trust an issue on Gransnet?

The idea that it is necessary to trust other Gransnetters has been raised a couple of times. However, we post only the information about ourselves and the views we promulgate that we choose to post and we know that this is a public forum that anyone, including non-members, can access freely. We choose whether to put personal information in a profile. Occasionally, we have new posters who are out to cause mischief but they are usually nipped in the bud by GNHQ aided and abetted by members with a keen nose for BS.
Would it really matter if I were not a 64-year-old atheist grandmother of five, with left-leaning political views, living in New Zealand, but was actually a defrocked Conservative gay vicar of 30 living in Wandsworth? Silly and tiresome but hardly serious and a charade that even the most intelligent would find difficult to maintain. (Quite a few North-East and Scottish grannies will have an idea about this.)

Some of us have met other Gransnetters and know their real world identities but, again, that is a matter of choice. So what is there to trust or mistrust?

In general I think people are genuine; but probably like me take steps to anonymise anything that requires this.

Which reminds me of the potential, collective, power Grans could have. Let's get representation and go for chats with Prime Ministers and members of the Cabinet, editors of well informed and non partisan newspapers, maybe a breakfast meeting at Windsor might be forthcoming for those Grans living or visiting UK.

Occasionally I see a post from "rockgran25" which is a very similar name to mine. I wonder how often we are confused by a similar name and assume we are talking to one person when in fact it is someone else - if you see what I mean. confused

Nfk. heated discussions not a problem - don't take it personally. Nor make yourself look a fool. Do you watch PM Questions. Good training not to do the latter! And I like working in a team. No one person should make decisions.

Absent. Get a good journalist or two on side. They know the business. I actually like those journalists who write for - with excellent English grammar - Turkish newspapers. I also like a few English journos. I am sure the Grans have preferences too.
