Gaining inspiration from the favourite cathedral thread would like to know which village or small town in the UK members love to visit, maybe not live in though because that could be too much personal information.
I will kick off with Lewes in East Sussex, a lovely little town with plenty of history, a castle, quaint little olde worlde streets, independent interesting little shops, and is set in the beautiful South Downs.

Yes Lewes - very close to my home is a good choice and has a nice vibe.

Steyning - another downland village is a delight. Again individual shops. Lots going on and a good community spirit.

Saundersfoot a coastal town in West Wales my sister lives nearby and I have spent time wandering the narrow streets and beach walks. The fish and chip shop on the edge of the harbour is to die for eaten out of the box sitting watching the boats bobbing up and down as the tide comes in.

Have visited Saundersfoot a very long time ago when we were newly married, remember loving it but never returned.

Yes have heard of Steyning but Lewes has a mainline station with a direct route to London Victoria, we have no car since DH became disabled and live in London so is an easy and straightforward journey.

Knaresborough in North Yorkshire is such a pretty town. Independent shops, a fantastic viaduct over the river and a great weekly market.

Oh God so many! and of course we only know the ones we know. I'm also very familiar with Lewes. I agree a very nice vibe, individual shops, cafes and restaurants, plus one of the oldest bookshops in the kingdom. High up is the Norman castle presiding over it's town. Further down, Anne of Cleeves House, and a pub where the Gunpowder Plotters met all surrounded by the beautiful South Downs It does have a steep hill in the middle of it though connecting the two halves of the town. So that's Lewes moving on.

Lately I've fallen in love with South Hams, Devon, so my nomination would be Dartmouth, so so pretty, The River Dart running through it and much of what Lewes has to offer plus fish restaurants. I love it.

Plus we're often up in the Cotswolds visiting family and friends, which is awash with pretty little towns and villages too.

I remember Saudersfoot, lots of coffee shops and surfer dudes. Beautiful beach. Less heaving than nearby Tenby.

Further up north Harrogate, a gem of a town which has lovely shops and restaurants and even better Betty's Tea Shop!

The town of Tavistock in Devon is well worth visiting. There are some beautiful buildings in the town centre, including the Town Hall, behind which may be found a super panier market.

Bridport in Dorset, we’ve stayed a few times, it’s charming and near West Bay - by the sea.

Rye in East Sussex and Dunure up in Ayrshire

MawsRosie Fri 02-Oct-26 15:41:24

I’d go along with Rye in England and Tobermory on Mull for Scotland

Charmouth, Dorset. Lovely village with a brilliant little bakery, fish and chip shop, cafe and pub. We have stayed in various cottages over the years.

From NI, but have spent an afternoon in Lewes, interesting little town.

If am allowed another would be the tiny village of Porthdinllaen on the Lleyn Peninsula in North Wales. Just a row of cottages and a pub located at the top of the beach.

Aysgarth, Wensleydale. The river and the waterfalls are wonderful. I used to live nearby for a few years. I buried the ashes of my Golden Retreiver Toby there.

Frinton in Essex on the coast, and Dedham on the Suffolk/Essex border.

Padstow in Cornwall. I'm a bit of a foodie, but it's also great for dog walks on the beach and cycling. October half term can't come soon enough.
I remember Saundersfoot as being nice.

Oh good. My eldest GD gets married there next May.

I’d love to live in Berwick. It’s a really up and coming place and the people are so friendly. It will be even better when the new cinema/theatre/arts centre is built. Parking is free and it’s on a mainline that goes to London and Edinburgh. I’ve always wanted to go to Lewes but annoyingly when we stayed in that area many years ago for some reason we didn’t visit it.

I like Wimborne in Dorset. It has an interesting square, quaint side streets, a beautiful minster church with centuries of history and buses from the square can take you all over the county.

St Andrews, in Fife or Dollar in Clackmannanshire.

So many! I love Narberth, and Lacock is picture postcard perfect. Stamford, and Corfe Castle. We are lucky to have so many lovely places.
