Well today is the day! I have an appointment at the hairdressers this afternoon. Not a big deal I hear you say, but, I have always had long hair, sometimes shoulder length but usually at least mid way down my back. Today its all coming off!!
This is all part of my updating my life! As some of you will remember I have been going through a sticky patch with my OH and I decided to tackle it all. Well things have improved no end and now I am sorting me out. Hence the new look!
I realised that as I always tie it back there was no point in the faff it took shampooing etc. so by teatime I will have a short (hopefully) easier managed hairstyle!
We are going on holiday next month so this will give me just enough time to get used to it I hope.
Wish me luck ladies!

Oh sending you loads of love and hugs xxx

I have shoulder length hair, and like you as soon as it's hot, on holiday or even at the gym it is tied back. I have numerous Pinterest boards with short and medium length styles but just very scared to go for the chop!!!!

I think it is because I do not like my face, and focus on my hair. You have given me the inspiration to have another think and go a tad shorter ??????????

Good luck with it! I have a friend whose beautiful long hair had been her pride and joy. She decided to let it go grey and have it cut to chin level. She was very reluctant and worried. She needn't have been. She looks fabulous smile

Good luck, as a short hair person I am sure you will find it much easier to look after.
A friend who'd had long hair all her life decided she was fed up with it a couple years ago and had it cut short, she was very nervous about it. It knocked years off her, you don't realise how much hair can drag down your looks, and it suited her so much better and she has kept it short.

Thanks ladies! I will let you know later how it all went.
Just had a lovely suprise though, my friend has just called in to give me a receipt for my hair cut. She had gone in yesterday and paid for the whole thing as a present for me!
Isnt it lovely when someone does such a kind thing for you?

Jane10 Wed 06-Jun-18 11:36:02

Sounds good. Post a pic later?

Scribbles Wed 06-Jun-18 12:06:46

Good luck with the new look! I'm sure you'll love it once you're used to it and wonder why you put up with the faff of long hair for all those years. (And, in the unlikely event of you not loving it, then you always know it will grow again).

Iam64 Wed 06-Jun-18 12:41:37

I'm sure you'll love it.

DanniRae Wed 06-Jun-18 12:47:36

Good Luck HAZBEEN I hope you are pleased with your new hair style.
What a kind friend to pay for your hair to be cut.
I am having my roots done tomorrow but Oh! I am so tempted to let it go grey. I will speak to my hairdresser about the easiest way to do it.........and then maybe?

HAZBEEN Wed 06-Jun-18 20:23:53

Well its done and I love it! It feels so much lighter on my head, I think the style (a pixie cut) will be easy to manage. I now have a plait of my hair which is about 12 inches long so I am trying to decide what to do with it.

You could sell your pony tail HAZBEEN? There is a company who will pay £7.00 for 25gms of hair. You could also donate it to a company who makes wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair through chemotherapy. www.littleprincesses.org.uk/donate-hair/

Thanks for the update Hazbeen. My cut sounds similar, it's exactly as I had it in my late twenties when I went from very long, straight hippy hair to a very short cut. Loved it then, love it now. Hope you enjoy yours. It's so easy.

hildajenniJ Wed 06-Jun-18 22:29:53

My hair has been very short as long as I can remember. I like the pixie cut too. I'm glad you like your new hairstyle HAZBEEN.

Getting fed up of all this hair ? at my age (68)

Gosh, my nose looks enormous on that photo!

NfkDumpling Thu 07-Jun-18 07:28:10

It’s a nice normal nose wot. And that’s a lot of hair! How do you manage it all?!

I’ve been having ‘economy’ cuts for as long as I can remember. DH doesn’t like my hair really, really short - but says it suits me. I’m not sure if its a compliment! It gets washed in the shower, towelled dry, roughed up and left. No hassle, no fuss. It is fairly course though and its style changes according to the weather. And the water. If we’re on holiday in a soft water area it becomes impossibly straight, limp and flat. Our hard water suits much better. Hairdressers try to style it, but no mousse or gel or extra hold lacquer can hold it. My hair does its own thing.

Well done for having the courage to go through with it and how lovely of your friend to pay for it!!

I was at the hairdressers yesterday and as normal she said are you having any off - I was extremely tempted to say yes take it all off! I've had long hair for years with a few inches off here and there but I lack the courage to go really short. I did have a really short cut when I was in my early 30s but I was also much thinner and it suited me. It drives me nuts when I'm trying to do something especially outside so I end up fastening it up. I've had it in so many different colours too! One day ...........

I think Judy Dench has the nicest short hair....it suits her perfectly.

HAZBEEN Thu 07-Jun-18 09:09:35

I got up this morning looked in the mirror and burst out laughing! Overnight the new look has morphed a bit. My hair has a kink in it when its short which of course I didnt know as its never been this length. I have just spent half an hour washing, blow waving and hot brushing it to get it to lie down! Hope it settles as I dont think I can do this everyday!

wildswan16 Thu 07-Jun-18 09:25:32

I would love to have a short cut like Judi Dench, but unfortunately have a double crown which means the top just sticks straight up. So I need it to be at least 5- 6" for there to be enough weight to hold it down. Drives me mad.

Hope you learn to love your new look hazbeen.

Nanny41 Thu 07-Jun-18 09:25:38

Short hair much better, long hair dragged back puts years on you. Hazbeen, your hair will settle down, keep persevering, you will love it,put mousse on when you wash it, it will help.

Juggernaut Thu 07-Jun-18 09:33:10

HAZBEEN
Congrats on your hair transformation!
I wash my hair in the shower every morning, and blow dry it. The washing takes two minutes, the drying about five. The more often you do it, the faster you get, so don't give up too quickly.
Short hair is far better as we age, easier to keep in good condition and much more comfortable in hot weather.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 07-Jun-18 09:39:39

Best of luck. It might be a bit of a shock to the system to go short after all this time but it should be an improvement. I find that having good hair helps so much with self-esteem.
I've been short, long and medium.
Now it's short and easier to manage. Earrings and pretty clothes help me not to look too butch (I hope).

sue01 Thu 07-Jun-18 09:40:28

Wot I absolutely adore your hair !

A friend of mine contacted me recently about her Grandson.

He ... like me... has masses of sticky up short blonde hair.

Think Albert Einstein or early Rod Stewart !!

Can't tell you how cute it looks on a toddler - however the Mother didn't think so... took him off to the GP... where the little mite was diagnosed with...wait for it..

heart shaped follicles !!

Couldn't make it up could you ??

Panache Thu 07-Jun-18 09:40:36

Good Luck wirh the new you from hairdo to new life HAZBEEN...........it takes courage, but is so well worth it............why spend life in a misery mode when you can be happy?

I think our hair style has a lot to do with how we feel inwardly and I am sure the new you, once you have settled into it, and grasped the few steps needed to look your best, will work wonders for the inner you............ and all aspects of your life.
Next you need to change the HAZBEEN for a futurestic knew name!!!
