I was so looking forward to the new series of Endeavour because I really enjoyed the previous ones. I found last night's plot unbelievable, and since I'd forgotten what had happened in the last series to cause Morse to end up in prison I found it doubly confusing. I couldn't understand how Morse could be reinstated when he had a criminal record. Did anyone else see it, what did you think, and can you fill me in on the Morse/prison/reinstatement situation?

We were as mad as hell last night, having settled down to watch the first of the Endeavours we had taped. Three quarters of the way through, our youview box conked out, so not only could we not watch the end of the episode where everyone is getting torn to shreds by some mysterious animal (or not) but we can't watch the others either! Anyone fill me in about what happened after Inspector Thursday went bonkers and attacked the suspect in the police station?

Nana3 Wed 20-Jan-16 16:58:08

Now you're asking hmm greyduster
I will make a start perhaps others can add a bit more.

Spoiler alert.

Thursday got off lightly as the chief superintendent covered it up saying the suspect had fallen down the stairs, or something like that. He turned out to be guilty of the first murder. Seems that he confessed because Thursday attacked him, I didn't really get that bit.

The woman who had been mauled by the tiger found out that the tiger was still alive and being kept in a cage in the woods.

It was her fault that the tiger escaped and was on a killing spree.
The end was fantastic, do you want to know it?

We know from Lewis that Hathaway's father was the estate manager and his name is Philip. (Now has Alzheimer's and is in residential care) The estate worker was called Philip Hathaway.

AyjayF Wed 20-Jan-16 17:36:26

Thank you for that, Katek.

Greyduster Wed 20-Jan-16 22:06:43

Nana3, thank you for that. If it wouldn't spoil it for anyone else, i'd like to know how it ended! We have lost everything on our box and the b****y engineer is not coming to replace it for two weeks!

Judthepud2 Wed 20-Jan-16 23:40:07

Erm.....was it just me, or was the storyline taken almost completely from The Great Gatsby?

NanKate Thu 21-Jan-16 07:41:39

Greyduster poor you with you box all broken. Do you have an IPad by any chance, because I have all the Catch Up apps (free) on mine and it is an easy way to see any of your missed programmes ?

I am so disappointed in the Endeavour series. The story lines are absolutely daft, acting very so so and just generally awful. Can't watch it anymore. Also Father Brown and Granchester. What a shame - they just all send me to sleep.

Greyduster Thu 21-Jan-16 09:18:07

NanKate i do have an ipad and i have ITV hub, but for some reason it keeps telling me that i can't get ITV 1 channels in my area, which is totally ridiculous. I am losing the will to live!

NanKate Thu 21-Jan-16 20:03:43

Did you know Greyduster that if you go onto Google and type in ITV Hub+contact us - you can ask directly why where you live is not televising ITV 1. It's worth a try. Good luck.

Sorry for disappearing greyduster.

The estate was going to become a safari park but it never happened except that they got some animals but then got rid of them, except the tiger, which then mauled the sister.
When she found out it was still alive she wanted to teach the brother a lesson and arranged for him to get mauled by the tiger by planting female tiger musk on him but it killed him and escaped. She stole the musk from the man whose au pair went missing, confusing that.
It killed the bird watcher whose arm was found in the river.
The chief inspector told a story about how years ago he shot a tiger in India but not before it had killed a policeman.
At the estate the sister in law with the baby went for a walk in the maze, the baby in a pram, the police arrived with guns, Morse saw the tail of the tiger disappear into the maze. After lots of scary stalking Morse ends up protecting the woman and baby by getting between her and the tiger. He tells her to run when it attacks, it does, she runs, a shot is heard, the tiger is dead, Morse is saved and who fired the shot? I think you can guess, the chief inspector.

It ended not so well by the bed of the girl who had been attacked years ago by the man who killed the au pair, Thursday and Morse talking about Morse taking his exams, poor taste.

Phew, left out some details but, probably forgotten loads but have put in enough hopefully.

Very good review of the story Nana3 respect for your good memory.

NanaandGrampy Fri 22-Jan-16 09:11:13

Im loving this so much I made DH buy me the set of Morse DVDs . It was something I never really watched first time round so Im going to give it a go now.

I do love anything set in the Endeavour period though. Its just so interesting to see the difference in so many things, not least manners;-)

Greyduster Fri 22-Jan-16 09:44:14

Thank you nana3, i am happy now i'm not left hanging in mid air wanting to know what happened next! As NanKate says, good review! I'm glad it was the police inspector who shot the tiger - at least he got to lay his ghost.

NanKate Fri 22-Jan-16 15:29:32

Poor tiger - I am a great animal lover 10 grin

NanKate Fri 22-Jan-16 15:29:58

Ignore the 10 !

Alea Sun 24-Jan-16 22:01:47

Good story tonight! I felt it gave a true flavour of policing as it was and Morse came across as human, not a hero.
Is Thursday really on the way out sad?

Luckygirl Sun 24-Jan-16 22:02:14

So why did Joan Thursday decide she had to creep off? - couldn't see any reason myself.

Alea Sun 24-Jan-16 22:04:06

Because she had given Paul Wotsit details of her work and the routine at the bank?

NanaandGrampy Sun 24-Jan-16 22:04:45

No I couldn't either , but damn it Morse .....couldn't you just tell the girl!! smile

NanKate Sun 24-Jan-16 22:05:22

I couldn't understand either why she left home. I'm hoping the appearance of the bullet lodged in Inspector Thursday's body is a positive sign.

Roll on the next series.

Luckygirl Sun 24-Jan-16 22:09:31

Or maybe she had seen another side to her cozy Dad and wanted out?

Yes - silly Morse - just spit it out! What happened to his black girlfriend?

Charleygirl Sun 24-Jan-16 22:10:02

I was not sure whether to watch tonight's episode after last week's disaster but although painfully slow, it was much improved and as said, showed policing as it used to be.

Ana Sun 24-Jan-16 22:25:56

I'm hoping the spitting out of the bullet shard is a good sign for Thursday too! I'm going to miss this series (can't be doing with Vera, which is replacing it next week...)

I do wish they wouldn't do voice-overs at the end, for goodness sake it's only a few seconds of the Morse theme but some of us really would like to hear it in its entirety! hmm

Nana3 Sun 24-Jan-16 22:38:17

There was a terrible lot of blood in the sink when the bullet came out confused.I thought he was going to use it to shoot a bank robber when he wrapped it in his hankie as the inspector told him his gun used the same bullets, it made me laugh. No more coughing though.
