A good episode tonight. Poor old Lordy. Those Downton women are so thin that I cannot eat my tube of Smarties while I'm watching them as they make me feel guilty.

The laundry would be an outbuilding , laundry not in view of the house, gardeners would not have entered the kitchen they would leave their goodies in a veggie room .

But no seamstress was very odd as was a lady's maid doubling up at a housemaid , tut tut

Ana Fri 13-Nov-15 15:28:21

Wasn't Baxter a seamstress? She was always sewing, anyway...confused

Anya Fri 13-Nov-15 15:43:55

Baxter was Cora's lady's maid, and they did have to do mending and sewing.

Don't you think Molesly wil pop the question now he's upgrading to School Master Gilly and how about wedding bells for Mrs Patmore? And that young footman for Daisy?

Anniebach Fri 13-Nov-15 16:54:42

Yes Baxter, but what of Lady Mary?

Charleygirl Fri 13-Nov-15 17:28:15

She has married "beneath" her- will that haunt her when money is a bit tight?

rosequartz Fri 13-Nov-15 17:59:17

I'm sure "Count Carson" is doing the KFC adverts on TV
Surely he and Imelda can't be that hard up to lower himself to that level

merlotgran Fri 13-Nov-15 18:06:14

Who is Imelda?

rosequartz Fri 13-Nov-15 18:06:26

And that young footman for Daisy?
No, I'm hoping for better for Daisy, she needs to go and get a career now she's educated!

Yes, the laundresses would be out of sight with their raw red hands
I thought the gardeners would be popping in with the veg as an excuse to chat up the kitchen maids.
I'm surprised we don't see more of Nanny and there would be a nursery maid or two to be at Nanny's beck and call!

rosequartz Fri 13-Nov-15 18:07:04

Who is Imelda?

Imelda Staunton, Carson's other wife grin

merlotgran Fri 13-Nov-15 18:09:11

Oh I remember now. I wouldn't have known they were married but they popped up at the Chelsea Flower Show a year or two ago.

rosequartz Fri 13-Nov-15 18:13:01

eating KFC?

I bet they never touch it

Gaggi3 Fri 13-Nov-15 18:20:55

I enjoyed Downton, though I know it's not high drama, but have loved all the comments on this thread even more. Thanks to everyone for a very entertaining and witty read.

rosequartz Fri 13-Nov-15 18:38:25

Watch out for the Christmas Special!!
(or, rather, the comments afterwards)

Daisy can marry the footman, still become a teacher because it's a modern marriage. She will discover dyslexia as a result of the love she has for her husband, thus make her fortune. Time will pass and the Grantham's will be unable to maintain the house. Daisy will buy it and turn it into a school for dyslexic children but provide the Grantham's with various grace and favour cottages.

Alternatively, Daisy will marry the footman and be a happy teacher at the village school. Lady Mary's new husband will transpire to be a whizz at business. He and Tom will persuade Lady Mary that open days will both enable them to remain at the Abbey and make a small fortune.

Lady Edith will come out of the shower and find Michael wasn't killed in Germany but has come home to make her and Marigold the happiest people on earth

Thomas will meet one of the gardeners (see various posts above about the missing gardeners). They will fall in love, all the Grantham's and the Dowager will be thrilled and delighted. Thomas and gardener will live in grace and favour cottage with Thomas coming into the Big House daily to care for the growing group of Grantham children.

I could go on, but you'll be relieved to know I won't

rosequartz Fri 13-Nov-15 19:21:59

Iam64 grin

Of course, you should have put:
PLOT SPOILER

at the top of your post
(no point in watching the Christmas special now hmm)

Anya Fri 13-Nov-15 21:47:58

And Anna will have her baby on Christmas Day, an emergency but delivered safety by Thomas, who will earn the undying gratitude of Bates and Lady Mary will be the godmother.

Anya Fri 13-Nov-15 21:51:06

And Mrs Patmore will marry Mr. Mason.

rosesarered Fri 13-Nov-15 21:52:49

Oh we do love a happy ending, don't we?

Jane10 Sat 14-Nov-15 15:06:04

Yup! Too much sadness in the world right now.

rosesarered Sat 14-Nov-15 15:07:22

Agreed.
