A good episode tonight. Poor old Lordy. Those Downton women are so thin that I cannot eat my tube of Smarties while I'm watching them as they make me feel guilty.
A further refinement -Carson reminds me of 'The Count' in Sesame st. Is that still on? I used to love watching it when the DCs were little. What fun they'll all have when they retire. Mrs Patmore and her house of ill repute, the Carsons and their 'full' marriage etc. I wish nice Mr Molesworth and that lady's maid would get together and adopt that miserable one (can't remember names today!). Note to self-its not real Jane!
I'm still pinning my hopes on Gregson's return --dead or not--
LOL gillybob - let's hope it's the latter
I still don't understand how Carson came to be quite such a stuffed shirt in this series. This is the man who used to be part of a music hall duo, who was Lady Mary's shoulder to cry on when she was growing up, who always tempered his sternness with a degree of compassion - or did I get it wrong?
He is just a completely pompous pain in the proverbial now. Perhaps he doesn't quite understand what a 'full marriage' means - he certainly needs something to cheer him up
I feel very sorry for Imelda Staunton Mrs Hughes Carson
Yes I agree - it's only towards the end of this last series that he's become so obviously pompous and more snobbish than his employers.
Perhaps he's finally realised that it's the end of an era and his days as butler are numbered...or am I over-thinking this? (note to self the same as yours, Jane!)
Molesworth will be leaving to teach maybe making way for Thomas to stay on... [its only a program ] his character has changed so much he's almost likeable.
Yes tanith, but Molesworth, despite being cleverer than many Oxford or Cambridge graduates, is only a footman whereas Thomas is under-butler - can he lower himself?
I remember him because I had a Reginald Molehusband moment outside Debenhams in Plymouth when the whole car seemed to end up on the pavement - with a large crowd around
The one time I did it I raced into a shop -I was parked outside , well semi parked ! and begged the tv repair chap there to go sort it out , he did bless him , even more embarrassing - I worked in a garage at the time and often delivered cars back to their owners , wretched tv chap was a member of the golf club , big joke , not
Let's not forget how horrible Thomas was in the past. Bribery, blackmail and extremely nasty. He is extremely good looking though so could possibly forgive him and he is good with Master George.
I'm sure "Count Carson" is doing the KFC adverts on TV, now that he's no longer needed in The Abbey.
That's what I meant Gillybob. Senior moment just as I was typing in the names. They're a nice couple. There seems to be lots of other anonymous staff too. We see them but never hear much from any of them.
Why did we never see a laundry maid or, for that matter, any washing hanging anywhere? Or hear any talk 'downstairs' of laundry being collected or delivered?
Why were there no gardeners on the staff? We never saw anyone tending the acres of grounds. We never saw anyone bringing in vegetables from the kitchen garden when they popped in for their morning cuppa from Mrs Patmore.
