Will somebody please put Burt Bacherach out of his misery?

Pittcity Sun 28-Jun-15 19:19:51

Weird how you can remember all the words, but not what you went upstairs for...

Tegan Sun 28-Jun-15 19:21:02

They were asking people to send messages to R6 with regards to Kanye Wests performance saying was it a racist thing that people were citiscising him confused? No; he was just rubbish. Bet no one moans about Songhoy Blues when they play later tonight.

I enjoy contemporary music, have Radio 1 on at home in the background and in the car. There are very few tracks which I would consider a 'racket', although I do find Enter Shikari a bit shouty. I too am marvelling at my ability to sing all the words to Lionel's songs! He wears his 66 years well and the voice is as good as ever.
SIL and his brother couldn't get tickets this year, so are working there doing litter picking. He is camped nice and close, gets fed and even has showers! It seems that is the way to do it!

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 19:59:09

Lionel Ritchie was brilliant. Don't the crowds just love these afternoon performances?

shysal Sun 28-Jun-15 20:02:00

Yes, Dolly went down well last year.

Pittcity Sun 28-Jun-15 20:02:45

The Beeb are showing some lovely shots of the crowd who are of all ages and are clearly enjoying themselves. Lionel himself was pleased to see "Grandma bopping."

I see myself as a rock chic, but love all sorts of music.

Have just turned the TV to 5+1 for Dirty Dancing!

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 20:04:06

Paul Weller on BBC 4 now.

Liz46 Sun 28-Jun-15 20:37:41

Yes, I enjoyed Lionel Richie as well. I think he was a bit overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the crowd but in a happy way. Did anyone else think that the drummer was occasionally too loud?

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 20:41:52

I loved the shot of the little girl on her dad's shoulders wearing ear defenders. I remember Billy Joel doing the same with his little girl when he did his concert in Russia.

Please Glasto can we have Billy Joel??

whenim64 Sun 28-Jun-15 22:52:23

Watching the last lap now The Who are on. Great atmosphere. Isn't it good when you get what you expect from good bands like these?

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 22:55:26

Now I'm happy to chase my long lost youth.

whenim64 Sun 28-Jun-15 23:16:25

Pictures of Lily - haven't heard that for years. Feel like a teenager again grin

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 23:19:46

I didn't really understand what it was about when I first heard it, when

The innocence of youth grin

grrrranny Sun 28-Jun-15 23:23:57

Did anyone catch the rest of the lyrics in My Generation after he sang 'And now you say we're in the way' or similar?

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 23:25:58

Sorry, my ears weren't that sharp, grrrranny

Maggiemaybe Sun 28-Jun-15 23:47:06

With our pensions and our passes and our shades of grey...

Sorry, just made that up. wine

grrrranny Mon 29-Jun-15 09:52:38

Like it Maggiemaybe. I'll try to get it on iplayer and have another listen but don't think I'll get any more clue so your addition will do just fine.

Tegan Mon 29-Jun-15 10:42:43

Last night was brilliant but today they only have the main acts on iplayer and there was a lot of stuff on the red button that was good [my fault for having a rubbish computer and can't get any of the internet stuff]. CharliXCX was great fun, as were FFS, Future Islands and Ryan Adams [who I always confuse with Bryan Adams and couldn't understand why he wasn't wearing a suit confused]. And Goat. I thought East India Youth was a band not just one person [was I missing something there?]. At least I can watch the whole of Ben Howards performance today. And rewatch The Who!

You are dead right there. The who are one of the greatest rock bands ever. Considering their age and all, they were blinding. The best band to play Glastonbury this year. As for Kanye west, absolutely dreadful. What were the organisers thinking of, getting him on. He has no personality, doesn't engage with the audience at all and the stage was black and dismal.
Unlike Florence and the machine. Very spiritual I thought.
All in all. A very enjoyable weekend watching the various music acts.

Liz46 Mon 29-Jun-15 14:21:58

Sorry to be slightly off subject but I know there are some Queen fans here. My daughter sent me a link (which my chromebook won't let me do) to something on youtube. It is 'Perspectives - Alfie Boe:Freddie Mercury saved my life'.

I have just watched it and it gave me goose bumps. Alfie tries to sing Freddie songs but his formal training hampers him. He has to try to forget some of it and feel the emotion of the song.

It is about 50 minutes long so get a cuppa and a tissue and enjoy!

Deedaa Mon 29-Jun-15 14:28:30

I had a look at Kanye West to see if I've been missing something. My suspicions were confirmed and I haven't missed anything grin Had my faith in music renewed by watching The Who last night. Only two of them left and they've still got everything Kanye hasn't!

Liz46 Mon 29-Jun-15 15:13:49

Roger Daltrey is 71 for goodness sake. The reason that I looked is because at the start of Pinball Wizzard he tried to strike a pose and then get up and it wasn't very effortless! He is fantastic for his age and how does he get his hair like that? My 62 year old DH only has a bit of hair left.

J52 Mon 29-Jun-15 15:25:26

I am a long standing Who fan, but maybe now they need to modify their style to accommodate their ageing voices. Rather like Rod the Mod has done.

Still great to see them. x

merlotgran Mon 29-Jun-15 15:55:46

Nice to see Zac Starkey on the drums.
