Will somebody please put Burt Bacherach out of his misery?

Katek Sun 28-Jun-15 12:25:22

Why was Kanye West headlining? Total rubbish

grannyonce Sun 28-Jun-15 12:33:24

Liz46 - did you see Queen at live aid ? - the best act bar none smile
I ventured into Glastonbury in either 70 or 71 - memory a little hazy from that time and remember mud, inadequate toilets and lots of hippies being cool. I think whitesnake was one of the acts.
would not do it now although it looks considerably sanitised from the 'good old days' grin

Liz46 Sun 28-Jun-15 12:44:18

grannyonce, oh yes! They were definitely the stars of that event.

I have just been chatting with one of my daughters. This is the first time she has not gone to Glastonbury for a while. She agreed that Kanye was awful but pointed out that people there would have been drinking all day so might not realise how bad he was.

I hope Lionel Ritchie and The Who live up to expectations.

grannyonce Sun 28-Jun-15 12:51:15

my error - whitesnake were 9 years later - I did admit my memory was hazy on the event (except for inadequate toilets)
must have been T rex then who made a fairly vivid impression on me grin
I sometimes wonder if today's Glastonbury revellers have such different musical tastes from us and would find the Who and Queen incredibly old hat (even though their songs had lyrics and have stood the test of time) hmm)

I am officially old- much prefer Classic FM- DH is still rocking!

kittylester Sun 28-Jun-15 14:54:47

Did anyone see the BBC programme with all the cool older people who had been at Glastonbury? I thought it was, mostly, really good.

Tegan Sun 28-Jun-15 16:55:16

Ben Howard was good last night. It is confusing who's on when but it all seems to alternate between BBC2,3 and 4. And Radio 6 [707].

Katek Sun 28-Jun-15 17:22:08

Last festival I attended was Reading circa 1979. It's all a bit blurry.......

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 28-Jun-15 17:49:28

You all sound as though you are chasing your lost youth.

And who or what the f--- is "Paloma" (see discussions of the Day. If you want to)

Maggiemaybe Sun 28-Jun-15 18:17:26

Nowt wrong with a bit of lost youth chasing, jingl! We went to a festival in Leeds in 2006, mainly to see The Who. They were great, but the highlight was a surreal performance by the Flaming Lips, who crowd surfed in huge inflatable balls. Of course there were loads of us oldies there, with our fold up chairs and cool boxes. At one stage a lovely young lady came dancing through our area, suddenly stopped and gaped at us all, then announced "B****y hell, it's like a branch of Homebase over here". grin

We've seen Paloma too, at one of her forest concerts (note how I refrained from saying gig grin). She was fabulous, we were amongst the oldest there, and all the lovely young folk stood back and let us bumble our way to the front. smile

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 28-Jun-15 18:22:38

Oh, it's a woman! Sounds more like a footballer.

Tegan Sun 28-Jun-15 18:22:44

Why is it chasing lost youth to maintain an interest in contemporary music? If I like something, I like it, I don't pretend to because I want to be 'young'. angry

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 18:24:17

I love that, Maggiemaybe. We do like our home comforts grin

Enjoying Hozier at the moment on BBC2

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 28-Jun-15 18:24:48

Contemporary music? Or racket? grin Don't me ruffle the old feathers too much Tegan.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 28-Jun-15 18:25:03

let me

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 28-Jun-15 18:25:34

is it really worth a angry? grin

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 18:26:34

I'm not chasing my lost youth, it's running to keep up with me. grin

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 28-Jun-15 18:28:12

I am with your DH in this one merlot. grin

Tegan Sun 28-Jun-15 18:53:15

No feathers ruffled but feel sorry for people that don't get enjoyment out of good music [and a bit irritated by people joining threads that they have no interests in other than to poo poo everything].

granjura Sun 28-Jun-15 18:53:59

Exactly Merlot -I really love some current bands and singers- those that are not 'boybands/girlsbands' poppy types- always been a rock chick me ;)
Last festival I attended was the Isle of Wight 1970- no glamping in those days. Now for me a teenager from a small village in the Swiss mountains- seeing Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Stones, Procol Harum and so many more- and also Joan Baez, Dilan and Leonard Cohen- was just amazing- and will be with me forever.

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 18:59:49

We're remembering the Isle of Wight experience, granjura. We didn't have to camp as our cottage was on the edge of the site. I was supposed to be looking after my fifteen yr old younger brother but he shook me off disappeared into the crowds and turned up two days later! He'd arranged to camp with friends. Little blighter.

Mum and Dad never did find out grin

Tegan Sun 28-Jun-15 19:04:13

My ex sent me a postcard from there, signed 'your camping hip freak'.When we split up I must have thrown it away, but I so wish I'd kept it [we're good pals now]. I've never been to a landmark festival of any kind; I did go to one, once, but didn't stay.

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 19:08:50

DD2 is now the family rock chic and DGD1 has just had her first Isle of Wight experience.

We do like to keep these quaint little traditions in the family grin

Pittcity Sun 28-Jun-15 19:11:12

Are you watching Lionel Ritchie? You can't help but sing and bop along!

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 19:15:33

Yes! No neighbours to worry about so windows open, volume to the max and a nice bottle of chilled sauvignon blanc to help things along grin
