Will somebody please put Burt Bacherach out of his misery?

Ana Sat 27-Jun-15 20:02:44

Oh come on...he's not bad for 87!

(and it was a better performance than Macca managed at the Olympics closing ceremony...hmm)

merlotgran Sat 27-Jun-15 20:07:02

True! And he can still play the piano but I worried he might do a Tommy Cooper.

Why is Paloma Faith wearing trousers that look like Nora Batty's tights?

kittylester Sat 27-Jun-15 20:11:09

George Ezra was brilliant!!

Tegan Sat 27-Jun-15 20:38:03

I'm so glad that it's stopped raining on everybody [no pun intended there]...they all got drenched at Download the other week sad.

Tegan Sat 27-Jun-15 20:58:55

...I'm wondering if even my short fat legs would look better in a dress like Paloma Faiths....[did she change what she was wearing when merlot saw her?]??

Tegan Sat 27-Jun-15 20:59:21

...and how do they dance in shoes that i can't even walk in...

ninathenana Sat 27-Jun-15 20:59:29

He sure was kitty smile

merlotgran Sat 27-Jun-15 21:07:43

I'm looking forward to Pharrell Williams. So far I've had 'What a load of crap' from DH. hmm

rosesarered Sat 27-Jun-15 22:45:26

Why does it always rain on me, was it because I lied when I was seventeen?

rosesarered Sat 27-Jun-15 22:46:21

It wouldn't be Glastonbury without some rain and mud, and people in beads and wellies, and some rubbish singing.

Ana Sat 27-Jun-15 22:48:29

Not impressed that they cut Pharrell off mid-Happy...hmm

Some real posers amongst the crowd, though...grin

Tegan Sat 27-Jun-15 22:53:55

I didn't like Florence and the Machine last night. I've tried to like her/them for years but can't. Watched most of it wishing Foo Fighters were on [ I've never much liked Foo Fighters either, but was hoping to be impressed by them live]. pooter has, yet again, stopped me watching utube so I can't check out the bands I have liked sad.

merlotgran Sat 27-Jun-15 22:54:13

Pharrell is on red button now.

Tegan Sat 27-Jun-15 22:56:36

Enter Shikari and Wolf Alice were good. I started watching Wolf Alice, thinking that they were only popular because they had a beautiful blonde girl in the band, and then realised they were on my list of bands I'd heard on the radio that I'd really liked.

merlotgran Sat 27-Jun-15 22:56:36

I thought Florence and the Machine sounded like an out of tune Julie Driscoll.

We watched Kanye West for five minutes but did the red button thingy when DH threatened to sleep with the chickens.

Tegan Sat 27-Jun-15 23:19:03

I'm sure they show mainly hip hop stuff on the telly and the good stuff is on the accoustic stages [they used to show much more of that]. Oh; Suede are on BBC4.

I hope Freddie wasn't listening tonight when Kanye did a wrong worded version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Outragous. I imitated "The Scream" painting when I saw him trying to do it on youtube (he didn't even know the words). I have yet to tell my son. I don't like the idea of that. Freddie and Queen are our heroes in this house. It's a shame they haven't done Glastonbury with Adam Lambert, now that would be brilliant.

The Who later tonight. I have to ring my dad, an old fan, and remind him to watch. smile

Btw, Burt Bacharach made me cry. I wouldn't have had my wonderful Carpenters cds and vinyls without him. A great man, wrote and produced some wonderful songs. smile

kittylester Sun 28-Jun-15 07:32:35

I heard some Burt Bacharach on the radio and I really hope they show the set again!

grannyonce Sun 28-Jun-15 07:37:38

rubylady so glad I did not see the 'attempt' to sing a Queen song - I always admired them and loved their songs (in spite of the fact that advertisers irritatingly take snippets of them to advertise 'anything')

that aside - I understand remaining members of Queen (without John Deacon of course) had featured in the US with Adam Lambert as the front man - which says something about his ability as a singer.

thank you for the heads-up about The Who - (showing my age here but modern bands cannot hold a candle to them and their iconic songs) hope it is not on too late smile

Liz46 Sun 28-Jun-15 11:20:10

grannyonce, I have seen Queen live twice many years ago and they were two of the best nights of my life. Freddie was a fabulous entertainer and I remember walking away from the theatre with ringing ears. I did think about having a look at Kanye attempting Bohemian Rhapsody but don't think my blood pressure would take it.
I still put Freddie CDs on while I am working in the kitchen.
Does anyone know what time The Who are on this evening please?

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 11:43:32

According to the website The Who are on the Pyramid stage at 9.45 Liz.

I don't know which TV channel will be covering it though.

Thanks merlotgran, I had just come back to say I had found it. From 18.15 on BBC2. I think I may record it so I can whizz through the bad bits. There seem to be a lot of them.

merlotgran Sun 28-Jun-15 11:53:49

I hope Lionel Ritchie gets plenty of coverage.

whenim64 Sun 28-Jun-15 12:08:04

I enjoyed the spectacular of Florence + The Machine (yes, she's a bit pretentious and dramatic) and really like a lot of her songs, so have got her new CD. Words fail me about Kanye West - the awfulness of him doing nothing for prolonged times on that empty stage made me wonder if something technical wasn't working? Or maybe he really was that bad?

I'll keep dipping in - Glastonbury can veer between stunningly brilliant and awful, and throw up some great surprises. Never fancied going myself, though - prefer concerts and hotels to festivals and camping. grin
