It's not even the fact that he wanted her to move - which is bad enough - but filming it and plastering it on social media too! What happened to common decency and respect for others? I'm a lot younger than 80, but at the moment I've got one foot in a medical boot/shoe thingy because of torn ligaments and I would absolutely need to hold a handrail to hobble up or down stairs. I'm not one for wishing ill on others, but I hope karma bites him on the backside and he finds out one day just what it is like to need a bit of assistance or accommodation!

I saw it and agree with every word you say. Horrible ignorant man who has been heavily criticised, so has maybe had a dose of karma already! 🤞

You really can't understand what goes on in some people's heads, blocking an elderly woman for absolutely no reason. A normal human response would be to move, it's basic politeness which should be an instant reaction in your head. Unfortunately lots of young people's heads are messed up by drugs, so who knows what they think.

Since breaking an arm I do now favour a handrail for stability.

To move out of the way so she could have had clear access, just a basic consideration.

I expect she reacted the same way I would have - shocked into saying too little, and thinking of all the good answers when it was too late.

Maybe we should write our own script and memorise it, ready for any similar situation, telling him exactly what breed of selfish, arrogant arsehole he is! Followed by telling him (even if it wasn't quite true) exactly WHY we needed to hold on to the handrail and the reason the handrail is there in the first place - not for him to drape himself artistically over, but so that older people could get a bit of help. Adding that if we didn't hold on, our disintegrating hip joints would be unable to support us climbing these steps and we would probably fall and knock him over as we gasp for breath because of our COPD, and cause someone to call an ambulance and the police, who would not find him amusing.

The other side is that the internet is full of little videos and "readers' stories" which tend to tell very simplistic tales where one person is the villain and the other is the victim. The villain/villainess is a boss/mother-in-law/landlord , who is trying to take the credit for the employee's work/gaslight a daughterinlaw/get a tenant unfairly evicted. That video may have been faked to raise outrage and get clicks to monetise someone's account.

Quite apart from the lady’s need and right to hold the handrail, I spent a few years working for a company that insisted everyone should hold handrails for safety. This included directors down to apprentices, all ages. I still automatically do this.

I am 82, partially sighted with mobility problems. I need to hold on to the right-hand rail. I am afraid I would have used my stick where the public wouldn't see the damage, but he would feel it!!!

That station is very close to where I live!

The man appeared youngish ( ie not elderly) from his voice and the skin on his hands holding his mobile phone in the video. He could see the lady's age and that she needed the use of a stick as a mobility aid. Yet he was totally oblivious to the her needs or anyone else that has mobility/sight/balance issues that may not be so obvious. He was able to hold his mobile phone to film and could easily have held onto the middle rail with that hand (if he stopped filming for a moment 🥱- he was not exactly encouraging safe passage and flow himself) ) to allow the lady to safely pass. London Underground carries signs on underground trains and around platforms to be aware of those. that may need a seat etc- what's his problem?

There is tube etiquette to keep to the left hand side going up and down stairs- to encourage flow at peak times- so that might have been the bee in his bonnet and why he was filming to highlight not everyone flows the signs? Yet this lady, as Charleygirl5 highlights, evidently needed to hold on to the right hand grab rail coming up the tube stairs because her mobility aid was in her other hand!

Rude, ill mannered and totally lacking consideration for others less able than himself- hope he has reflected and learned from his ill thought out behaviour when reading feedback posts 🤞🤞

The way he said ‘I’m filming you’ was very intimidating, I felt.

Good for the lady, when she replied with ‘I don’t care what you’re doing…’

A dangerous thoroughly unpleasant person. I wonder what other nasty things he gets up to..He needs a visit from the police. He could certainly be traced through social media.

My DH can’t use stairs very well so if is a lift we use it but some trains stations etc., don’t have them, then he has to hold onto the handrail or he loses his balance and falls over. If I came across this man I would have told him that he either moves pronto or could carry my DH the rest of the way, his choice, and if he said he was filming it I would have congratulated him for recording his gross stupidity. But is hard to come up with this at the time.
If any young women or men watch the footage he took is a sure fire warning to them that this individual is no prize, avoid at all costs.

A gentleman would have stepped down beside her, allowed her to hold the hand rail and offered a supporting hand on her other side whilst she safely made her way to the top of the stairs. I bet his parents are really proud of him now……NOT!!!

I think he was doing it to create outrage and film it. There are some really nasty pieces of work out there who probably do have a following.

I am also really concerned about this man publishing a video about this lady on line disclosing her visual identify. I feel his filming and posting breached her right to privacy as well as dignity and doesn't comply with the spirit of GDPR....

If this lady was a member of my family I would report him the the Information Commissioners Office....

Generally speaking, it's not illegal to photograph or film someone in a public place here in the UK. I'm not saying it's right, just that it's not against the law.

It's not the recording of the conversation this man had with this lady that is a criminal offence. However publishing the video of a conversation on line without their consent can be unlawful

Posting an identifiable voIce recording on line is considered processing personal data under GDPR. If created for a social media channel- exemption does not apply. The subject/lady/her family on her behalf has a right to object and request deletion of the footage.....

This man was not only rude and obnoxious he has opened himself up to potential prosecution if somebody wants to advocate for this lady.

He did not have consent therefore he was in breach of GDPR and potentially unlawful.
