Just read there will be a second series for those of you filled with lust for Aidan Turner.

Tegan Fri 17-Apr-15 12:49:33

I'd love to know how much they're paying him for it [wortheverypennyimo] blush.....

jo1book Fri 17-Apr-15 19:02:52

You little minx; get in that cold shower.

Ana Fri 17-Apr-15 19:05:26

I just hope he's not going to become over-exposed...

whitewave Fri 17-Apr-15 19:07:55

Oh ana don't ruin what may be possible.

Ana Fri 17-Apr-15 19:08:49

grin

merlotgran Mon 27-Apr-15 16:40:57

Oh dear, Sunday nights are just not going to be the same.

Roll on the next series.

Mishap Mon 27-Apr-15 17:19:38

But, now we know there will be second series, we must assume that he is not hanged!

By the way, I am impressed with the music in the series.

merlotgran Mon 27-Apr-15 17:37:54

Don't worry, Mishap wink During the seventies our mobile library had to order in extra copies of all seven books to stop a stampede.

I agree about the music. Plaintive without being miserable.

Tegan Mon 27-Apr-15 18:31:23

I'm wondering if I have a copy of the first book anywhere; I haven't read it, I'm sure but that doesn't mean I don't have it somewhere. I'd like to dip into it to read more about the characters, especially after googling it and reading about George Warleggans character. Last nights episode wasn't exactly a barrel of laughs, was it sad.

Lona Mon 27-Apr-15 22:28:09

I havent read the books but I'm slightly disappointed by this series.
There's no depth to the characters and everything seems to happen so quickly. One minute Ross and Demelza hardly know each other, and next they're married. They have a child, she dies and suddenly Demelza is the love of his life!
There's been no chemistry or romance to show us why he feels like this now.

They could have made the characters so much more interesting.

merlotgran Mon 27-Apr-15 22:33:11

No chemistry or romance????

Have you been watching a different programme, Lona? grin

Ana Mon 27-Apr-15 22:43:16

I think you must have missed one episode in particular, Lona! confused

I must admit the rest of the series has been a bit hit and miss. I much preferred Aiden Turner in 'Being Human' - especially with his wonderful Irish accent...hmm...

PRINTMISS Tue 28-Apr-15 07:19:18

I thought it was all a bit slow, riding across the lovely Cornish countryside, watching the waves (which, incidentally I love doing), then riding across the Cornish countryside. I just felt it was dragged out. When there was any activity it was good, but I felt it was a bit like watching paint dry.

Tegan Tue 28-Apr-15 07:45:36

I agree about the music Mishap, they also use the folk songs that Demelza sings to great effect. When I lived in Cornwall, music was a huge part of our lives [look at Fishermens Friends now, although our music in Boscastle was better than Port Isaac imo]. I think for them not to have rushed the blossoming relationship between Ross and Demelza we would have had to wait for about 4 series if they'd followed the books. I still think Elizabeth was miscast though sad.

Lona Tue 28-Apr-15 08:52:17

No, I didn't miss anything, what I saw was a few moments of lust! grin
I expected more than that.

Tegan Tue 28-Apr-15 08:58:54

confused?

Elegran Tue 28-Apr-15 10:05:08

That's how you get the children.

merlotgran Tue 28-Apr-15 10:06:48

They'll have to hurry up and get another one now.

Tegan Tue 28-Apr-15 11:51:22

Bit difficult if Ross is in prison....

Maggiemaybe Tue 28-Apr-15 12:28:12

Someone thinks it's too slow, someone thinks it's too fast. May I say I thought it was just perfect. I am now in mourning for my Sunday evening viewing - they'd better get something really good on in its place. I read all the books many years ago now can't find them - they must have gone to a charity shop in a fevered clear out, but I'm surprised I let go of these, of all books. I still remember character names and forthcoming plots vividly - this from a woman who can't remember what she read last week.

Deedaa Tue 28-Apr-15 21:13:31

In the end I think too much time was wasted with soulful gazing out to sea and galloping across the cliffs. And the opening credits were pure Hollywood, all those rolling black clouds and crashing waves! I thought it was a pity that they made Francis such an unpleasant character, in the original series he was weak but quite pleasant. George Warleggan just seems weird, not a patch on the late lamented Ralph Bates.

Ana Tue 28-Apr-15 21:15:28

I must admit all that galloping back and forth across the same bit of coast made me giggle...grin

merlotgran Tue 28-Apr-15 21:20:45

We laughed every time Poldy hoisted Dezza on to his horse.

There is nothing more uncomfortable. Romantic it is NOT. grin

pompa Tue 28-Apr-15 21:42:05

Too much information Merlotgran, I was enjoying that bit, blissfully ignorant of the practicalities smile. Mrs. P moans at me for picking up impossible/impractical technicalities in programs.
