What time do you get up

Since you retired. I get up between 8.00 and 8.30, but DH always, on the dot, gets up at 6.30, anything later is ‘wasting the day’. I had years of having to get up early for work and am so glad I can relax now.

Greenfinch Fri 23-Oct-26 09:19:36

Usually about 7:30 though I am awake much earlier and rarely sleep well.

Charleygirl5 Fri 23-Oct-26 09:21:12

around 7am.I also got up very early for work can't seem to lose it and I retired over 20 years ago. At 7 am I would have been almost at work.

Semi retired (work 2 days)
On work days I get up at 7.
Non working days I wake at 8/8.30 but stay in bed (as DH brings me tea) on my phone with radio on until about 9 8r 9 30.
Bliss!

Similar to Greenfinch. DH makes a cup of tea around 6:30, then we watch breakfast for a while and get up around 7:30.
I may have been awake since 4

DH gets up at 6:30 7 days a xx week, to walk dog and returns with a hot cuppa for me in bed around 8:30.

I will get up anytime really between 8:45-9:45 if nothing happening.

If I have an early appointment or meeting someone I get up and shower around 8:00am.

We have TV in our bedroom, so there’s really never any rush unless something is “happening”.

I feel very lazy now compared to those posting 🤣😂🤣

Am a part time shift worker so getting up or going to bed is a moveable feast.
If not working then around 8 a.m I guess.

fancythat Fri 23-Oct-26 09:40:16

Ha!

Today, 6.30am.
Sunday might be 9am.

I seem to go in about 6 week patterns generally.
No idea why.
In an early one lately. Good.

tanith Fri 23-Oct-26 09:42:12

I’m awake at 6ish read till 7 cup of tea in bed watching news and scrolling up at 8am for shower and brekkie.

mrsfeather Fri 23-Oct-26 09:42:26

6-6.30 rise, bed around 9.30. Husband may get up a little later as he has very painful hips, knees etc.

Some people I know are so self righteous about getting up early. On a different tack a relation in his mid 80s feels guilty if he reads a book during the day. What on earth is that about. If you can't get up when you want or read a book in the day in your retirement when on earth can you?

So much martyrdom. Competitive martydom I read and hear so often....makes me yawn.

jusnoneed Fri 23-Oct-26 09:47:35

I'm usually awake around 5am, stay in bed for half an hour or so by then I'm wide awake so get up. I don't like lying in bed once I'm fully awake.

Curlywhirly Fri 23-Oct-26 09:50:06

Now retired - wake up about 6.30-7.00am. Lie in bed scrolling on tablet until 9.00am. No more getting up early in the dark, driving to work in rush hour traffic, scraping frost off the car at an ungodly early hour. Heaven!

Luckygirl3 Fri 23-Oct-26 09:50:29

Oh - don't ask! Just eating breakfast here at 9.50am!!

MiniMoon Fri 23-Oct-26 10:01:47

I've always been a night owl, rarely going g to bed before 11pm, then reading sometimes until 1am. I usually get up around 8:30 - 8:45.

Lixy2 Fri 23-Oct-26 10:10:40

Early morning here - the radio alarm goes on for the shipping forecast. Coffee in bed listening to the farming news and the headlines, then up and doing.

Bed by 10pm at the latest.
Years ago I used to go to bed after the 9 o’clock news but the tv schedules changed so now I just potter after 9, getting the breakfast things ready.

There’s no moral high ground about being up earlyish, just the way my body works best.

Greyduster Fri 23-Oct-26 10:10:58

Me too Luckygirl! I’ve been awake since silly o’clock but refuse to get up at an ungodly hour. Unless I have any early appointments or an early start to get to an activity, I will sit in bed drinking coffee, answering emails, staring ant Gransnet, until around nine. Even after he retired, DH was always up with the lark (a hangover from his military days) and liked me to be as well. It rarely happened!

BlueBelle Fri 23-Oct-26 10:18:04

6 am same as I always have and probably always will
Go to bed 11 ish sleep till about 2 or 3 am have an hour or so awake then another sleep till 5 or 6 then up, can’t lie in bed never have. Mum and Dad were 6 am people as were my grandparents 🥱

Alwaysoptumistic Fri 23-Oct-26 10:18:11

Late one today, got up just before 10am but didn’t go to bed till gone 1am.
I rarely get up before 9am now I’m retired.
I average 8 hours good sleep each night which for me is the most important thing

😁 Ditto!

Last night I was trying to finish a book so was reading into the early hours. This morning was rather slow, there is usually no need to rush around early in the mornings now unless I have an appointment or meeting of some kind.

Fallingstar Fri 23-Oct-26 10:42:37

Up at 6 to check on DH, give him meds he needs before brekkie and make us both a cuppa and I stay with him until about 8/8.30 he usually goes back to sleep and I read.

SporeRB01 Fri 23-Oct-26 10:54:35

Around 9am to 9:30am. Go to sleep between 12pm to 1am. I only set the alarm and get up earlier if I have an early morning appointment.

I do not like waking up when it is still pitch black outside.

GrannyIvy Fri 23-Oct-26 11:04:23

Awake around 6 but like a coffee in bed at 7.30 ish and I then get up anytime between then and 9 am depending what is planned. No set times now I’m retired and DH the same. We read and DD2 always call on her way to work to check in. Lazy gran … I never feel guilty either picking my book up in the day. I worked hard up very early for many years.
