Ade Edmonson was on The One Show promoting his next programme about Britain's relationship with the sea. Hasn't it been done already? He said 90% of everything we have comes to us by sea. If we didn't have the sea we would starve.hmm

If we didn't have the sea we wouldn't be an island so am I the only one scratching my head over what he's on about?

grin Quite!

He has also said recently that having cancer is the same as having a cold nowadays confused

I was too busy fretting about Alex halfway up that rock to notice him.

He was good in Holby.

Actually, I was quite surprised about the 90% thing. I thought more than that would be flown in.

And then there's the tunnel.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 20-Mar-14 09:47:04

Excellent point about being an island though! grin

I can't watch it for just that same reason jingl. It's not so long since she was decried as a bit of a fluffy airhead on this forum hmm

Re the cancer comment - I should have said I read in the paper that he said that. May have been taken out of context to be fair to him.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 20-Mar-14 09:47:59

Or rather, not being an island. Without the sea.

Very good.

Ana Thu 20-Mar-14 09:49:50

To be fair, Katy, his wife Jennifer Saunders often says things like that since she had breast cancer - the attitude must have rubbed off on him!
(Not that it's like having a cold, but that so many women have had it, and survived it, that it's no longer the terrible diagnosis it once was and she's fed up of being asked to talk about it.)

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 20-Mar-14 09:50:31

Aka I think it could be the bravest - and most distressing to watch - of all the Sport Relief exploits.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 20-Mar-14 09:51:59

The cancer comment might have been of some comfort to newly diagnosed people.

KatyK Thu 20-Mar-14 13:25:19

Ana - yes I can understand that argument. It's just that I can imagine all the people who are really struggling with cancer may have found the comment a bit flippant. I agree that more people are surviving of course. Perhaps having had a nephew who died of it at 16 makes me a bit touchy.

I do remember him saying that he disagreed with people who say that cancer is a battle because he and Jennifer found it more like a very long slow motion car crash - which is pretty much what DH's has been like so far.

I was so pleased to see Alex reach the end of her climb tonight. Even DH, who won't watch the show because he dislikes her so much, asked if I had sent her any money yet! I do worry that they may be going too far with some of these stunts, however well intentioned. I think they were lucky that Davina didn't come to any harm on her trip. Fishing her body out of the lake wouldn't have looked too good. You just wonder what somebody's going to come up with next.
