Don't fret it has not started yet!!! Saturday BBC4, a Danish/Swedish co production. According to the Radio Times it is going to be a real 'cracker'. A dead body found on a bridge between Denmark and Sweden, and a new female detective. Can't wait.

Tak! for that news Hattie64!! Saturdays may be bearable after all.

Jacey Tue 17-Apr-12 22:33:07

My tv programme thingy is already set up ...tak

Jacey Sat 21-Apr-12 23:11:44

Wow ...I'm hooked!!
Not sure I understand how all the side stories will eventually link in ...but ...I'm in for the long haulsmile

gangy5 Sat 21-Apr-12 23:22:44

Yes - I enjoyed it. Looking forward to next week!!

glammanana Sat 21-Apr-12 23:29:37

Trust me I forgot all about it do you think it will be on catch-up from to-morrow?

Mishap Sun 22-Apr-12 09:33:46

Only saw episode one as I fell asleep - but it is recorded, so I will watch it later. I thought it was good.
I often wonder what these Scandinavian progs would be like if they were in English - would we like them as much or is the appeal their "foreignness"?
I am sure that there are lots of nuances in there about the Danish/Swedish rivalry that are lost on us - and we do not grasp the differences in accents, which are probably important in this series.

HildaW Sun 22-Apr-12 13:33:56

Misshap, good point about what makes these things appealing. For me its not recognising any of the actors so that I see only the characters. Also in the UK if you see a big named actor briefly in a series you know its him what dun it!

greenmossgiel Sun 22-Apr-12 14:20:32

I thought it was really good - I haven't watched any of the Scandinavian thrillers up till now, and wish I had. The gloomy coldness of the scenery makes it all the more atmospheric.

moomin Sun 22-Apr-12 17:25:07

I'm loving The Bridge too! I've really enjoyed all the Scandinavian series that have been shown on BBC4. Funny thing is, although I can't understand the language, I have to have the volume up at normal strength or it just doesn't seem right!

Looking forward to next Saturday

DH got very excited watching The Bridge last night and kept exclaiming that we had sailed under The Bridge last year and reminding me that he took lots of photographs of it because it was so new and awe-inspiring.

We soon forgot there were subtitles (thanks to our big new television!) and were utterly absorbed for two hours. Great acting, great atmosphere and great storylines.

Can anyone guess what the heart transplant patient and his wife (now widow) have got to do with the plot? Is it to do with the ambulance crossing the bridge in the opening sequences? Gransnetter sleuths to the fore please ...

Hattie64 Sun 22-Apr-12 19:50:50

I too enjoyed it. I didn't realise, until reading a review in the Observer today, that the chap with the moustache who took the girl to that house, is a social worker!!! The heart transplant patient must be linked somewhere. I loved the bit when he confessed that he was going to leave his wife and then died.

Jacey Sun 22-Apr-12 20:03:36

No Hattie64 ...I hadn't realised the 'social worker' link either. Did the article explain anything else??

Hattie64 Sun 22-Apr-12 20:12:40

No, afraid not.

crimson Sun 22-Apr-12 20:48:10

Was looking after the grandchildren yesterday so missed it. Is it repeated later in the week?

crimson Sun 22-Apr-12 21:13:51

Oh heck, they're repeated all over the place....

gangy5 Sun 22-Apr-12 22:24:31

I'm with you greenmossgiel in that I enjoyed it and it is the first Scandinavian thriller that I have watched. Compare this to tonight's Vera!!
No comparison as The Bridge has many interesting entwined story lines, personal relationships and is relatively fast moving. Vera ZZZZZZZ! ZZZZZ! depressingly dull.

GoldenGran Sun 22-Apr-12 22:59:20

I missed it as we are staying with friends, but will catch up with it when home. I do love that Saturdat night slot, loved Montalbano, and am now looking forward to this.

Hattie64 Thu 26-Apr-12 20:01:17

Read the Guardian blog on the Bridge. I didn't realise that the white van at the end of the episode was leaving cases of poisoned wine for the homeless.

We worked out at last the link with the social worker - but became hopelessly confused as we thought the strange woman in the leather jacket with nothing underneath was the same one the social worker took to the secret location! After a while, all those blondes tend to look very similar, but by the end (yes, our brains do get tired after an hour of those sub-titles) we sorted ourselves out. Still don't know where the heart patient comes in, though realise this was indeed the ambulance crossing the bridge in episode 1.
Have loved all these Scandinavian programmes, "Wallender", "Borgen", etc., and also enjoyed the French police series "Spiral". Have visited Sweden as we have friends there, it's good to see it on film.
Montalbano - mmmmmmm!

crimson Thu 26-Apr-12 23:38:25

Darn it; I fell asleep half way through the repeat of the second one [doing the nursery run as well as working this week]. Is there another Guardian blog with this one a la 'The Killing'?

Jacey Fri 27-Apr-12 22:40:05

If there is crimson would you post the link please?

crimson Sat 28-Apr-12 12:54:29

Jacey; I can't do linky things [technophobe] but if you google The Bridge Guardian blog you'll find it. I'm going to fill in the gaps I missed by reading it. there are 1.360 comments on the blog already! Looks like Sauturday nights are back to normal again!

Jacey Sat 28-Apr-12 14:49:56

OK ...did that crimson ...found the site smile

I think I know understand which parts of the story took place in Sweden ...most generally!! hmm
Only parts in Denmark being Rohde's home, his police station and the slaughter house; oh and the heart transplant sequences. I had not been clear about Stefan and Sonja Lindberg...but now realise that is all in Sweden too.

Also found it interesting reading some of the blogs ...that others couldn't tune in to when it was in Swedish or Danish; that others couldn't initially tell all the blondes apart either shock

And ...one of the bloggers solved a problem for me about Stefan ...who he reminded me of ...Peter Wyngarde's natural successor! grin

Well DH and me are hooked to, we have just watched number 3, and have had to save up no 4 because we are shattered having DGS and DGD for 5 days (back home tomorrow). Some loose ends/explanations come through in No 3 and then new scenarios emerge. Fast pace and as someone else has mentioned it is good to watch something with a different 'hugh' 'hew?' oh well, you know what I mean. You know you are NOT watching CSI or Law and Order Criminal Intent etc. I think there are 10 episodes so it is going to get very complicated. Do you think the Social Worker did it? Too obvious? And why did that stupid mother and father reject their errant teenage daughter so? Fie, peril on the way. And why does not someone just explain to Martin that she is autistic/high functioning?
