Have set up a new thread for the new mini series
Hundreds of illegal migrants to be put in existing military barracks
Don't fret it has not started yet!!! Saturday BBC4, a Danish/Swedish co production. According to the Radio Times it is going to be a real 'cracker'. A dead body found on a bridge between Denmark and Sweden, and a new female detective. Can't wait.
Have set up a new thread for the new mini series
My partner watched it but found it a bit confusing. I'm hoping to see it on Tuesday night. Whenever I passed by there seemed to be a lot of blood everywhere [on the telly, that is, not in the living room.....
]
Well could be at a concert but secretly
staying in to watch?.....shall we have to start a new thread? or rename this one?
Just caught the final episodes on i-player as we went out last saturday & missed it (great meal though) . so sad that August died , if this had been a British programme he probably would have been found in the nick of time. Wonder what will take it's place loved Wallender but not Borgen or that french one
This was a real "watch from behind the sofa" denouement! I may have to watch it again on iPlayer to fill in the gaps when I chickened out and went off for cups of tea etc! I have loved it, even on the (many) occasions when I really didn't know what was going on
Great, thanks, will watch.
New to this but delighted to see there is programme to fill the scandi gap on Saturday evening. Thanks
..tack
!
For those of us who may suffer 'scandanavian' withdrawal symptons this Saturday ...there is a 2 parter from Sweden ...police profiler (the star was the original tv Wallender)
I've only just watched it as we were away. I'm glad Hans didn't get himself killed. I rather liked him. I suppose all the talk of him leaving was paving the way for his absence in the next series (if there is one).
Martin's wife has certainly drawn the short straw. Married to a serial adulterer with another set of twins on the way and now has to hold HIS hand even though he nearly got her blown up!
Yes I have really enjoyed the whole series too and only just caught up tonight! Out to dinner last night and desperate not to read any comments before seeing final episodes.
Poor August, but someone had to go, and the next series would not be as good without Martin or Saga. We will soon all be fluent in Danish and Swedish.
What are BBC4 bringing us next?
Think Saga had been given Martin's 'spare' as she didn't have one while in Denmark
Did they end up in no mans land at the end, which was why they both were allowed to use guns? As for the inconsistencies, I'm trying not to think about them [but it's hard
]...]
Actually thought the gun issue was ...the Danish police couldn't carry one in Sweden ...while the Swedish police couldn't carry one in Denmark
Agree ...think we lost a lot of the 'humour' and/or 'nuances' of disrespect between the two police forces!
A clue was the police uniforms.
Polis = Sweden
Politi = Denmark
Did wonder ...when the series was aired in both countries ...whether they had sub-titles if the conversation was in the other language??
Thanks crimson. It did make her seem like a stupid female asking for trouble as so often happens in dramas. yes Martin did seem to have left a trail of destruction with his thoughtlessness. Thought it was only me couldn't distinguish Denmark/Sweden Danish/Swedish could they have one consistently in orange the other in grey or something, coloured coded for people like me? ha ha. No apart from the gun which seemed to allowed in Denmark but not in Sweden?
But yes I love her and Bridget good to have some role models if imperfect seem human like us.
I've got used to the red herrings and implausbible plots; as for tv cops doing daft things, remember how often Scully [or was it the other one] used to go into dark houses without a torch? These are 'lead you up the garden path' programmes. What did amaze me was how distraught the S.O. and I were when Saga was shot, and how incredibly fond I had become of her character. As a detective series it was full of inconsistencies but it all came down to what 'truth' actually is and, when it came to 'goodies and baddies' was Martin the real baddie because of the way he had treated people throughout his life? It was eye opening to see the world through someone who didn't know how to lie. Agree about August, although it did bother me that I kept thinking I was watching Jonny Wilkinson in a change of career; as someone that tends to suffer from claustophobia the latter part of the programme left me feeling drained; it was real 'watching through my fingers' stuff. The girl on the bridge would have been ok; police in these programmes seem to know just where to shoot people so it doesn't kill them. Something I have missed out on [I read this in a review] was the humour generated from the fact it was both a Danish police force and a Swedish one; as I never had any idea which country they were in from one minute to the next I didn't pick up on any of the culture clashes that caused.
Could anyone work out what happened to the poor young lady hand cuffed under the bridge and shot?
Why did Saga go out into the grounds? As a professional should she not have stayed in waited for back-up? Bit implausible but then she is a law unto herself..
I have missed a few episodes so did not know much about August. I had to remind myself it was acting it seemed so real and I was so upset.
The "social worker" whose sister was in hospital and who killed the young husband?? - bit of a loose end there.
How many times could S and M (!!??) get away with going into a dangerous situation without any backup? - I kept telling them to get some backup, but they just weren't listening!!
Excellent acting by August actor I thought as he travelled to his fate.
Loved the journey (episodes 1-9) ... but the arrival
... felt let down by some of the implausible going-ons of the final episode!
But will be there for the second series that the Radio Times says will be coming next year.
OMg really enjoyed this and the ending had a sad twist. Not as good as the Killing though which was brilliant. These Scandinavian series are good for mother and daughter bonding, we spend hours on the phone discussing possible plots.
I am loving this series too and the atmospheric music. Now must let the dog out, take the phone off the hook and pour a glass of wine. Enjoy your evening all.
Yes I upset my daughter, had glass of wine, tea cooking in microwave, count down to 9pm. Did you see in Radio Times due very soon is Sebastian Bergman starring first bearlike Swedish Wallander two parter. Later this year Norway Lilyhammer? Seems we may have a few spare Saturdays to find something else to do though!
They'll repeat Wallander; they always do. Annoyingly with Wallander there was one episode I recorded because it was a bit scary and I was one my own that night, and the recording didn't work; it was key to a lot of things that happened later in the series as well.
I'm smitten by the programme and it's music. Keeping my eye open for any other Scandinavian series that come up - (wish I'd watched Wallander)!
I've planned my entire afternoon and evening around 9.00 tonight! I don't usually eat until 7ish, but had dinner at 6 tonight, so all cleared away and settled down ready for it to start with the gin and tonic to hand! I will think of all the other GN fans similarly enthralled so happy viewing to all.
