Telegraph and Reform

There is a report describing the editorial staff as being very uneasy over the relationship between Reform and the Telegraph.

It is thought that Farage is using it as a vehicle to try to report a more “sympathetic” story to pre-empt what is a real issue for reform in the news.

These problematic stories are coming thick snd fast - as we are aware.

Telegraph staff said that their journalism was being undermined by Farage, and the Telegraphs close links to Reform.

The Telegraph has traditionally always supported the Tories, but this has been less in evidence.

A report where please?

David49 Wed 16-Sept-26 09:12:55

The Torygraph supports right wing opinions the Tories under Badenough has gone soft but they have not. I do pick up the Telegraph occasionally at the local cafe but only to have a good laugh, a lot of others believe every word.

Thanks - I can’t do links.

All this tactic will achieve (imo) is to reduce the amount of time other papers allow Reform to comment on a story before they go to press.

A very common line we see at the end of a piece (and hear in television and radio journalism) is … Reform have been approached for comment but we have not heard back from them. Meantime they’ve scuttled to The Telegraph to ask them to spin the same story. It helps that Tice’s girlfriend Oakeshott writes for them.

The paper is obviously rattled by the revelations in the Verbatim undercover operation which has exposed them either as easy dupes or complicit in Reform’s manipulation of the public.

The quality of journalism at the paper had deteriorated alarmingly.

Now, if I read something that seems “off” I will look at the name of the writer and check their bio on Wiki or LinkedIn.

Often it turns out to be some 23 year old, two years out of college with a year on a local paper covering school fetes, roadworks and petty crime who suddenly has a lofty title, "senior political correspondent" or somesuch on a national broadsheet.

Farage also writes for The Telegraph, which though quite right leaning, used to be a good source of news.

Our country is turning into a pathetic pitiful mess and i don’t mean because of migrant issues!

It’s doesn’t lessen the issues around AS arriving en masse, nor the problems of places like Piddington, which are real and require resolving,

However, like it or not, attempts to control our politics and media by political parties receiving funding from dubious billionaires brings us closer and closer to Trump and Musk realities.

I, for one, simply deplore this.

To the others, who support Reform and Restore, I can only say, be very careful what you wish for!

For Cossy (maybe others) - Piddington does NOT have "a problem"!! The intended camp in question is some 5 miles away, and there are other nearer villages. Plus - there's NOTHING in Piddington bar a village hall and a church.

Bicester however has assorted shops, and the Bicester Shopping Village draws big crowds. I haven't yet heard that the Shopping Village wants to secede from the UK?!

There still seems to be a strange belief about the Press? The amount of newspaper readership has plummeted, over the last 20 years.

For the small numbers who still buy a paper, or pay for online usage, people don't buy a paper or subscription to be converted, they buy what they know and like. Telegraph readers apparently mostly like it for the sensible sports pages?

And the same company publishes the Express AND the Mirror, trying to give customers something they like, provided they buy SOMETHING, that's the plan.

TV news shows will be seen by far more people, which is why Reform were so hacked off when Farrago and his pals were caught on film discussing how to get round the rules re political contributions.

Wow, I thought Trump's megaphone, Fox "News", was bad.

Maremia Sun 20-Sept-26 16:24:00

Fox News has the advantage, and reach, of being on TV.

Right now we have no choice, unless we vote for change the UK is finished as we know it. Labour are destroying our lives but by bit, they are all Fabian Society members 😱 all following the same agenda.

So yes be very careful who you vote for, there's talk of a GE being called on 15th November because Burnham knows he is sinking fast, he will hold off on the budget because of the GE, the budget is set to rise all taxes, crushing the workers (again) and helping anyone that doesn't work or here illegally.
We have to vote for something different, so yes be very careful what you wish for.
We are in this mess because remember the last election our left wing media were all chanting ' anyone but the Tories' and here we are , in the toilet. Thanks to Labour.

Graphite Sun 20-Sept-26 16:58:13

In the last two years, to what extent has your life gone done the toilet, Cruiselover, that can be attributed to Labour?

I’d genuinely like to know. How is Labour destroying your life?

What is the change you want?

First I've heard of an upcoming election.
Any evidence you could share with us?

Ray82 Sun 20-Sept-26 20:36:16

The only PM's who did anything useful for the masses were Attlee and those that followed until after dear old Harold Wilson.I don't think politicians care anymore

That's funny that because many different people I know say exactly the same about a number of other papers.

What ignorance. the Fabian society is old style social democratic style

And members are not even all in the Labour Party never particularly left

well not for about 80 years plus 🤣.

Where do people get these notions from?

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 20-Sept-26 21:10:50

Blimey Cruiselover! You’ve got your knickers in a knot!

Oh, by the way, I’m a Fabian,

David49 Sun 20-Sept-26 21:59:17

All media has to justify its existence they don't just print the facts they dramatise them by adding uncertainty and doubt about any consequences. The more extreme the predictions the more attention they get, the more viewers believe them, political decisions are very often made for all the wrong reasons.

Thats the weakness of democracy it allows media pressure to affect government, the wealthy exploit weak policy the poor get little

Maremia Sun 20-Sept-26 22:05:29

Yes David, clickbait wins.

icanhandthemback Mon 21-Sept-26 00:40:46

Whilst I don't doubt that The Telegraph is Farage's mouthpiece, I am not sure that a report in The Guardian telling us this is much of a surprise as it leans very much to the left. I think you just have to read a range of articles on the same news to get a balance.

nanna8 Mon 21-Sept-26 00:52:02

Probably a disgruntled Telegraph journo has been appointed to the Guardian and is letting rip. Wouldn’t trust any of them.

Margs Mon 21-Sept-26 02:29:40

Think back in history to the 1930's and Sir Oswald Moseley's Blackshirts - Reform and Restore are, IMHO, pretty near to being the 21st century equivalent.

And if either party got into power I imagine they would emulate the Nazi party's actions when they achieved the upper hand, ie: abolish the free press, Telegraph included.
