Significant rise in both anti-semitism and Islamophobia

20% of Jewish people are thinking of leaving the UK as they no longer feel safe here.
This rise in hatred in the UK is worrying and upsetting.

Well they're not going to be queuing up to go to Australia, and Israel (especially if you define Israel by their internationally acknowledged boundaries) is full.Europ seems to be similar to the IK in the wake of the Gaza / Lebanon violence.

There's always the US but - not a country I'd want to uproot my life to immigrate to at the moment.

I do think the antisemitism and the attacks are appalling.

I do blame Israel for souring the mood in countries that have long been their allies, by their indiscriminate use of bombs & drones & disproportionate armed force against their neighbours.

I know that British jewish people are in no way responsible for Israel's actions, I feel for their wrongs, but I think that as we have felt more able to openly criticize Israel's actions, that in itself has allowed people who've always been antisemitic to be openly antisemitic now.

But people were antisemitic a decade or more ago, and all over Europe too. I was teaching part time in France 10+ years back and remember the awful Toulouse attack outside a school where 3 little children were killed. Then a couple of years later the kosher supermarket killings where 4 Jewish men died.
These attacks sparked intense fear within the French Jewish community, and this led to a record number of Jewish people emigrating to Israel. I remember Netanyahu visited the scene and encouraged French Jews to leave France. Jews in France were scared to death. And all because they were Jewish.

The Iranians voted in the Islamic regime in 1979, the Germans voted Hitler into power, Castro had widespread support during the 1959 revolution. At what point are the descendants of those who made these decisions free from the consequences of their parents and grandparents? IMO civilians, especially those who are children are never culpable for the misdeeds and wrongs of the governments who rule them when they have no chance to overthrow those governments by democratic process.

Children have been killed in Gaza. Was that just 'collateral damage' or wrong doing?

There has always been antisemitism, long before the present conflict and I just don't understand why. Justifying or 'explaining' the current surge in the context of opposition to the Israeli government is unfeeling to say the least. Either you condemn antisemitism or you don't.

What do they say about people who start with "I'm not racist....."

The 2021 census put Jews as 0.5% of the UK population, and Muslims as 6.5% of the UK population. The number of incidents of antisemitism is a much higher percentage than the equivalent Islamophobic incidents. Jews are definitely the most vulnerable group in present day society. All prejudice and oppression is wrong, none can be justified, and it all needs stamping out.

In both cases the ill will is fuelled by Observant Jews and Muslims who do not realise I can strongly object to the current regime in Jerusalem or to any Islamic governments' behaviour while being completely tolerant of them and their religion. The failure to make this separation has done huge harm.

This is an awful thing to say. I sincerely hope your use of the word "observant" was misjudged. What on earth has being "observant" (i.e., following the laws of a religion) have to do with them thinking that others are not tolerant of them because of the actions of their government?

Thank you Smileless, when we first talked of the attack on Israel and Israel’s reaction it was stated then the babies were put in ovens, not true said the majority posting, everyday Hamas gave the number killed, the majority believed Hamas !

There were rumours Annie that babies were put in ovens which were thoroughly investigated and found to be untrue.
The only way to get lasting peace is to respect the rights of both sides, you cannot keep pushing a whole nation about as they do. Netanyahu lacks respect or compassion for anyone if not Israeli. He is not the one to bring a resolution. It seems the World is at war to get more land and those that have most weaponry win. Trumps at it and Putin, they have more land than they could ever use anyway.
