I have been taking Methotrexate for nearly a year for RA. The dose has gradually been increased and is currently at 20mg, taken weekly. I have had a couple of mild side effects, burning mouth and hair loss but these have been eliminated by taking Folic Acid 5mg on each of the 6 non-Methotrexate days instead of the initial one day.
I see the Rheumatology consultant or Nurse Practitioner every 3 months and they have a helpline should I need advice. I find these appointments together with monthly blood tests keep me reassured that I am suffering no hidden damage.
I have heard that some patients consider Methotrexate the drug from hell whilst other have no problems. I hope things turn out well for you.
