First cut flowers from the garden

My favourite flowers, some some would call 'weeds' - what a joy. But such a shame your garden got such a bashing- at least you can enjoy them for a while.

I love “weed” arrangements. I often use cow parsley and sea lavender in church. In autumn, there is an embarrassment of choice.

Do you mean the Spanish Bluebells Fleurpepper? They can be a problem for some, and I do prefer English ones. But I just let them pop up hither and thither.

GrandMattie do you have to 'treat' the Cow Parsley before you use it?
I find the petals drop almost immediately, and don't last very long at all.

Beautiful! We are having a very late and cold spring. Crocuses are finished, and muscari are just popping up.

I would like to swipe a few branches of forsythia, but the only shrub available to me was pruned back quite hard last year and has hardly any blooms. It's in a neglected alleyway and in the past I have helped myself to a few overhanging branches. I do love forsythia.

My Fil cut back his Forsythia several times a year, just did it when he thought it looked to shaggy. It was a beacon of colour every spring. People stopped to admire it.
Although all the books say it flowers on new shoots and not to chop them off!
It's inconsiderate of the new tidy gardener to cut off your over hanging Forsythia.
It's one of lifes pleasures to be able to gather foliage you don't grow in your own garden

Yes it was used as a strewing grass in houses in medieval times to hide horrible smells. And with willow bark, nature's natural aspirin.

What do you mean though with 'petunia = peony'? Don't understand.

I was correcting my error. The flower in my photo isn't a Petunia it's a Peony

I thought it should have read peonies and not petunias when I saw the picture (of the puffy dark pink flowers).
I find peonies don't last long outside anyway, so enjoying them inside is a good idea.

The tree peonies against the South wall are budding nicely. But we are at least 2-3 weeks behind on other years, looking at memory photos that are coming up on my FB page.

They are absolutely beautiful Namsnanny. As you said, you wouldn’t cut them normally, they are all flowers that last much better in the garden. What a joy to have them inside.

My daughters friend is getting married in May and will have them in her bouquet. I think they are so pretty, but difficult because both the the rain and the sun can harm them.

Indulgence, scented flowers in the house. My favourite change with the season, but I find rust coloured Freesia, and orange centred narcissus glorious.

Yes, really early for a peony, I mistook it for a camellia!

Lily of the Valley......smells beautiful. Small and powerful.
