I buy meat and poultry in bulk from a local farm shop and freeze in portion size . I batch cook soups , stews and mince and freeze in takeaway containers or the fresh soup pots . I tend to freeze veg and tomato’s if I’ve got loads . Interesting about avocados .

I remember the days many years ago when I would buy a whole spring lamb and later a larger Autumn lamb , they would come cut up but I would portion out chops in family size portions.
I couldn’t afford to buy now but also don’t use so much meat now.
We had large chest freezers then, now I have three drawers in a fridge freezer.

I freeze mince, chicken breast fillets, chicken drumsticks, fresh fish, and bread (3 at a time, in sandwich bags)

I am pre diabetic so freeze all my bread and mashed potatoes as freezing increases resistant starch. More so if toasted - the bread not the mash!

I freeze bread, berries, bananas, leftover cooked meals, and chopped vegetables to save money and reduce food waste. Freezing onions and mince is especially handy when preparing quick meals. I've never tried freezing avocados before! Do they keep their texture and taste well after defrosting? It's a great idea to buy larger packs when they're cheaper.

I use the tubs that food came in, these were blitzed and have lemon juice pepper, salt, took lid off to show ,this is going into the fridge for the morning

I will try freezing anything too. I’ve bought a food vacuum packing thingy which removes the need to blanch any veggies, uncooked meat takes up far less room and I’ve even portioned cooked rice pudding, vac packed it and frozen that.

No, Shell. Chop and freeze. Never blanch.

I often make double for meals and freeze some. I also freeze any passata, pesto or tinned tomatoes I don’t use, plus halves of lemons or sometimes squeeze the lemons and freeze the juice. The liquids I put in ice cube trays so I can take out just a little at a time

In the 1970s I had my first deep freeze. It was a big chest sized one and we would buy half a lamb from a local farm and get it sectioned up to freeze. I once bought half a pig and was shocked to find half a head in my pack . Meat must have been far less expensive then because I remember buying a large piece of sirloin and cutting it into steaks . I used all the trimmings to make a meat loaf and I have never tasted one as good as that one was.
These days I still have a large freezer and stock up in Tesco at Easter and Christmas with their lamb and beef. We are having half a leg of lamb to-morrow srom last Christmas . I have been known to still have lamb legs two years on and they are still lovely. I live in a small town so if we get a day's warning of family visiting I can just take something out of the deep freeze to cook .

We did the same in the 1970s, Floradora.

We bought a large chest freezer which was situated down some steps in the cellar because there was no room in the kitchen.
We used to buy direct from a family farm not far away, and buy large quantities. My mother-in-law had the half pig's head from us.
It came cut up but we had to bag it in portions ourselves.

Last I heard the farm had been taken over by a rather more upmarket company which also sells boxes online.

We have two freezers, mainly full of OH choice of food. Then he complains that frozen food isn’t the same as fresh. LOL 😜
